Batocera is a great, free piece of software that can turn your Mac, Linux or Windows computer into a retro gaming entertainment system.
Simply build up a USB drive, plug it in and play every console, computer or arcade system that you can think of. No need to install or alter anything on your main computer hard drive. This is a self contained system that runs directly from the USB stick.
In this series of videos I'm going to guide you through how to create a complete build! That includes games, emulators, themes, artwork etc. basically everything you need to create an amazing Batocera build.
In this video we perfrom the initial install and add the MegaDrive system!

Thanks for the awesome batocera tutorial the best on youtube. One question when installing on new disk will also do the installed games ?
Thanks for the feedback 😊 If you install on a new disk you will need to copy your games over, but they are all held in the ROMs folder so it's pretty straightforward. If you have both running at the same time, you can copy the games over your home network.
Was hoping u would go through the light gun usage and settings. Did i miss it?
I haven't but with the latest version of Batocera the lighgun setup and use it pretty much automatic. I plugged in my Sinden and it was automatically detected and setup 👍

perfect !!! how much disk space need for batocera cores - emulators ?
To install Batocera you need a drive of at least 16GB. To add ROMs you will need a lot more room, but it depends on how many systems and games you want to add 👍

I managed to make fpinball work (shown in another video), placing the "library" folder to complement some other fpinball games in your download package, inside: userdata/saves/fpinball (His games, of course, inside the "roms" folder) Thank you for your work in sharing your knowledge!
Great easy to follow video, i just cant work out how to put batocera ip address into windows as if i have batocera running how can i use windows at the same time on 1 pc?
Hi, if you only have 1 PC, then you won't be able to use the network transfer method, as like you say you can't have Windows and Batocera running at the same time. So while you have Windows running, copy your games to a USB drive (different one from the Batocera drive) then boot up Batocera, once it's running, insert the USB drive with the games and hit F1 on the keyboard, you will then see a file manager screen. From here you can copy and paste the games from the 2nd USB drive to the Batocera drive and into the roms folder.

Is there a way to remove the inside black part of the bezels? Depending on the game your playing, they cover part of the playfield. I love the art, but hate the black inside “trim”
Hi, presuming the game is using RetroArch, then you can hit the F1 key to get into the RetroArch menu, then adjust the screen size and position. I show how to do it in the following video, at about half way through 👍

Quick question for you. Im trying to follow your video to turn my external ssd into a Batocera build. My issue is when I go too use balena etcher to flash it only my laptop shows up to flash too. Did i download the wrong version? I didn't see one for an external ssd so I just picked the PC one like you did.
It might be that Etcher is seeing the drive as a system drive? There should be an option to enable 'unsafe mode' which might make it show up.
As for the image you choose, it's dependent on the machine type you want to run Batocera on, not the type of drive you are flashing it to.

I'd recommend using the links with the IP address as it's privately hosted, so there are no annoying ads or pop-ups etc, just direct links to the files 👍

If you use the new links, there's no password needed. For the others it will be Build.! or RB-Build.!

How do I use a keyboard on Batocera?
You shouldn't need to do anything special to use a keyboard, it should detect it automatically.

Honestly, this would be 100% better without all the background music...
I know some people aren't keen on the background music and in my more recent videos I reduced the volume of it. I do like to have it though to stop there being moments of silence.
