Band Maid is the best band I've heard since Marshall Crenshaw in the early 90's . I NEVER thought it would happen...but here we are . Greatness is at hand !

That song was their tribute to Freddie Mercury(Queen … the only band that can stand with Band-Maid in terms of consistently good song writing, arrangements, and performance.)

Band Maid... best served Live... as good as the music videos are the Maids really shine in the Live environment..anyone can do it in the studio with the ability to have multiple takes... when you bring it Live like the Maids do... well... seeing and hearing is believing .... Puzzle, No GOd, Domination, Play , Freedom etc etc... Pick a Live performance and fasten your seat belt...

Like Peter I'm up there too. 73. Been into music since I was 10. Played coronet through first year in college. Of newer bands Band Maid is one of my favorites-----along with The Warning, Lovebites, Baby Metal, Liliac and some others. I'm always captivated by Misa's bass----she does not only play a usual bass line, but she interjects her own melodies at times. Incredible bass player. Thanks for the great reaction. Discovered them last year, thanks to their picture with The Warning! I appreciate their instrumentals, stage presence and vocals. Although not understanding the lyrics at first, that didn't bother me.

One of my favourite Aurora reactors taking the most natural step (not instinctively at first) into Band-Maid. Fawning over Aurora AND Band-Maid is like having a glove fitting the right hand and another glove fitting the left. This is way over at the pop-ish side of Band-Maid. They are most fun and best when they go HARD. And as with Aurora - best consumed live. I am sure many will agree - check out "Domination" official live, Po. (Yes, get used to random Pos in the comment section)

Hey Ash! I started listening to Band-Maid at the beginning of August after someone posted the video for their new single Shambles on Discord and I was immediately hooked. Misa's bass tone was what first got my attention but the whole song was great too.

Here's the thing, what you did, just picking randomly, is probably already the best strategy. Any official video you pick is gonna be great fun. Old, new, live, studio, acoustic, electric, it doesn't matter. The chemistry and talent of these women always shine. But if I had to suggest for you, the live performance of Domination at Shibuya has a great mix on Saiki's vocals.

Band-maid have many songs please don't stop on your first song. They do acoustic music as well but they can rock out as well. Nemophila are heavier if you like that and very good and not all Nemophila songs are heavy. Life is about welcoming the drummer back from Maternity leave. She's had 2 babies and the singer recently had her first but when the mums clock on you better have your earplugs in. Rolling Quartz is yet another great all girl band but from Korea not Japan.
As Pau would say...fun fact: Band-Maid and The Warning are big fans of each other! They met last year at the Aftershock Festival, there's a short clip of it on The Warning Army channel, very cute. This song was awesome, Ash! Hope your kiddo's doing ok🤸♀️🚴♀️🧸

My personal favorite Band-Maid video is Freedom Live (czcams.com/video/FHpuEqMAcDg/video.html). They're obviously having an absolute blast onstage, you get to see that they have honest-to-god chops and it's not all studio magic, the song is a banger, and I'm a sucker for a good drum solo.

love bandmaid! their bassist (misa) is actually who inspired to start learning the bass as well :) some of my favorite songs from them are blooming and no god! many drummers seem to really enjoy blooming so please check that out!

Welcome to the world of Band Maid :-) You can't pick a wrong song, but "Bubble" is a good place to start. They have a wide variety of songs (punk and metal influences, pure rock, blues/jazz). Lots to discover. As I said: You can't go wrong with your choice but good songs to start with are the LIVE versions of "Domination" (some cool solos) and "Freedom" (great chorus, drum solo and a lot of fun playing) or the MVs from "Dice" or "Influencer". After that, enjoy "Manners / Blackhole" LIFE or the slower songs "Memorable" or "Daydreaming" (MV). Phew. .. I can't stop... there are so many brilliant songs (The dragon cries, Secret my/maiko lips, From now On, Onset, Choose me, Play LIVE, Rinne ....) or the accoustic versions.... I hope you have fun discovering Band Maid. By the way: There are also great documentations about each band member and much more
And here are a few quick facts: The band has been writing (virtually) all of their own songs for years, with "Kanami" (lead guitar) usually taking over the composition, supplemented by the individual contributions of the other instruments: "Misa" the barefoot assassin (bass), "Akane" genius gorilla (drums), "Miku" our little pidgeon (rythm guitar, lyrics, second vocals, entertainment, and a lot more), and "Saiki" (lead vocals).

Ashlena, You should watch as much Band Maid as possible. These five Japanese females can play rock better than most males. They are , what I can, pan-rock genre. Every song has a different rock era feel from rock ballads to very hard rock. I guarantee if you pull up more Band Maid fans from the internet to react to, you will get a lot more of us Band Maid followers (we call ourselves Maidiacs)
The Band-Maid rabbit hole is deep (maybe it should be a pigeon hole as Miku is our little pigeon po😄). I personally like the live performances, they don't have any bad songs but a few of my personal favourites are Shambles, Dice, Play, No God, Warning, Domination, The Dragon Cries and Unleash. They have (in my opinion) the best current bass player with Misa (I call her The Mistress Of Thunder), her booming bass riffs weave through the songs. They are all awesome ❤😄🤘
Yes, don't underestimate their LIVE performance! There is often a lot more energy and joy in playing. Some LIVE versions are definitely better than the album versions. But for now, avoid smartphone recordings of live performances... too much acoustics will be lost. Always make sure that they are “Original Live Videos”. On the other hand, there are also songs where I like the album version (or MV) better, like "Dice" or "From now on" for example.

If you want to continue your exploration of B-M, you could start with the first MV (released in 2014) "Thrill" (this was not composed by the band, that came a bit later). All of the official videos can be found on their YT channel.
About the outfits they wear. I believe it was Miku who worked in a Japanese maid cafe and that's where the idea of the maid clothes comes from.
Most Band-Maid songs are hard rock, but they have songs in other styles too, like Bubble, Daydreaming, Glory, and Start Over.

Japan has all the best female rock and metal bands: Band-Maid, Nemophila, Hanabie etc. Not only are they all excellent musicians but also great characters. What I love most about these bands is that they make it all fun. There is also a tendency towards positive, empowering lyrics, which make a really nice change from the tedious misery of western metal and rock lyrics.

Hi ashlena, I love your warning reactions! they are another favorite band of mine, how about the vma performances!! The maids might be my favorite band ever besides led zeppelin. By the way the warning and and band maid love each other and recently got to meet at a festival they played at! I'm sure a maidiac has a link to that video. You can't go wrong with any song, just like the warning. Band maid has like 120 songs or so. I say work new to old. It might take a few years but it's worth it! Okay, watched Tove Lo - No One Dies From Love OMV. Not totally into her vocals but thought the video and message were very creative.

Yeah, this one is a rough translation. Alot of Japanese euphemisms that don't really have a decent English translation, but the gist of the song is pleasurable diversion while on a general downward spiral while the music takes you in a constantly increasingly euphoric roller coaster ride. And the licking part may be correct. They can get pretty spicy. Check out Don't Let Me Down.

Japanese is a very contextual language, so the licking part might not be as spicy as you think. Imagine cats or licking wounds, it's about emotions.
Also " Don't let me down " it's a song written for them , even the lyrics. Miku's lyrics are never that blunt.

Hi dear Ashlena ! I have to say, you set the standards WAY high with yout Greywind reaction video. Now I am already comparing THIS band to what I have witnessed just two days ago. And I really have to say, as good as Band-Maid is, musically and vocally, I would always prefer Greywind, although these girls from Japan are great, as well... but it's the singer's voice that makes the difference ! Steph O'Sullivan's voice is so special and recognizable, it caught me right from the first moment. Band-Maid's singer has a good singing voice, for sure, but it just didn't touch me... nevertheless that doesn't mean that Band-Maid is not a good band, they sure are ! Domination is a much better song from Band-Maid, by the way.

Why does the song sound much higher pitched than the actual MV??? You actually SPED up the song, and then wish to comment on what you're hearing?!! Do you know the difference when you speed up the song, or is it all the same to you? The fact that you speed up any song to react to it tells me how much of a musical ear you actually have. No sense of frequency or pitch to the song? You DARE to react to the song without hearing their actual sound?? How do I respect you from here??!!
I'm going to take it that you feared being copyright-claimed, so you took this absolute nonsense of a precaution this ONE time. Band-Maid are very reactor-friendly and are not known to pull the rug from under the people who are promoting them.
I trust it will *NEVER* happen again with any other Band-Maid song. I hope to give your channel one last shot with another song, and hear what real opinions you have (musically speaking, assuming you're capable of that). Don't ever destroy their sound ever again..... you hear?!

I didn’t realize it was sped up… obviously it’s my first time hearing it sooo I wouldn’t know if there was a difference.
@@ashlenamusic The album version is 3:46, the video is 4:11 the difference is in the intro (before the music starts) with about 10 seconds of silence. and the end with about 10 seconds of silence, so the music part is the same as the album. I think you should ignore these comments about the sped of the song. Your comments about the quality of the song, the ladies technical skills and your other positive remarks are what really matters.
Ok everyone, I was really going to end this, probably with an apology for the considerably rude remarks made. But all these comments compel me to explain myself. Here's what I am seeing: -
Ashlena started the song in her video at 1:23. This point corresponds with the timing of 0:11 in the Official MV.
Ashlena's video ends the song at 4:57. This corresponds at 3:53 on the official MV.
This means that the song ran for 3 mins 24 seconds in Ashlena's video, yet the song ran for 3 mins 42 second in the Official MV.
Now, I tell you what I hear. All the frequencies of the instruments and the vocals have been shifted up. They are all higher pitch than normal. You just have to play both Ashlena's video and the official MV side by side to simply notice this.
The song sounds quite jarring in Ashlena's video, nothing like what I have been hearing in the official MV or even on my MPEG-4 files. Even if I don't trust my ears, I can see the timing pretty darn clearly.
How is it possible that I can hear this difference so clearly? I can't stand how jarring this difference is, yet you are all telling me that it sounds the same?!!!
