  • Are you new to vinyl? Are you just starting out with your cutting machine? Are you wanting to learn a few more tips and tricks before your first project? Or, are you just looking to expand your vinyl knowledge. If you answered yes to any of those questions then this is the right spot for you. There’s never a better time than the present to get started. We have created a New To Vinyl video series that will walk you through everything you need to know about how to use a variety of different types of vinyl. All of the projects we create can be done on your machines. This series of projects was created using our Vinyl Basics Box that we have available here - expressionsvinyl.com/basicsbox
    In this video we are using Oracal 651 Permanent Adhesive Vinyl. You can use this type of vinyl on your Cricut, Silhouette, Brother or any other cutting machine. You can also grab a pair of scissors and use it that way as well.
    Each machine is a little different so you will want to do a small test cut. If you aren’t familiar with how to do that you can see more information in these videos:

    I used oracal 651 (my first time working with permanent vinyl) and it did not stick well to my mugs :/
    I used alcohol, let them cure for a few days, and found they still removed fairly easily and started peeling when washed. Not sure what went wrong. But i’d love to try again

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi, there are a lot of other things that could cause this. Was there a coating of any type on the mug. That will cause issues for it to stick. Also, it works best if it is a smooth surface. Please let us know.

      The hot water isn't adhesive vinyls friend, especially in the dishwasher. You should use a finisher like polyurethane polyacrylic spray, dishwasher safe Mod Podge, or an epoxy before running your projects through the dishwasher.

    Thanks for the video. What if I wanted to sell decals, how would I ship it? Do I still use transfer tape?

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  Před 3 lety

      There may be some concerns with shipping the decal with the transfer tape already applied. Leaving the transfer tape on too long may cause some of the adhesive to remain on the decal. Conditions during shipping can also be a factor. Heat, cold, moisture... if severe enough, may cause issues with the transfer tape removal. The type of transfer tape used will affect the results. However, we have not tested thoroughly enough to have a final answer. These are some things to keep in mind.

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  Před 2 lety

      Transfer tape is not required to use adhesive vinyl. However, some designs are easier to apply with transfer tape. Transfer tape helps keep everything in place, especially the small intricate and/or multi-piece designs.

      You will want to make sure you blade is clean. If it is, then you will want to increase the pressure. Our settings are a good place to start but all machines will be different depending on how often they are used and what materials they have cut. Always do a test cut to make sure the settings will work.

      The brand of vinyl may require a different tack transfer tape. For example, Our adhesive vinyl works best with medium tack transfer tape. If you use a high tack transfer tape with our vinyl, it would be a bear to apply it to the project, if it would work at all. Check to see what transfer tape is recommended for the vinyl you are using. It will make a world of difference!
