How to Create a Dynamic Monthly Calendar in Google Sheets - Template Provided

- In this video, I demonstrate how to create a dynamic monthly calendar which updates depending on the month/year entered as the title.
To skip the tutorial and access a working template you can copy to your own document, use the following link (PLEASE don't ask for access edit access -- most users should have READ access and you can MAKE A COPY which you can edit -- instructions provided herein. Some domains such as verizonwireless.com may block your access, and I can't help you there as it's out of my hands):

Hopefully this will be useful for others. It's my first attempt at a video for public consumption, so I haven't tried to do any fancy editing or anything.
As is often the case with Google Sheets and other spreadsheets, there might be different/better ways to do a lot of the things I did, in retrospect; the way I accomplished the task at hand just happened to be the approach I took at the time. For example, any use of =IF(ABS(cell)>0,true,false) could nicely be replaced with =IF(ISNUMBER(cell),true,false) which would've made more sense.
I get so many questions about things like making Monday the first day of the week, or putting months side-by-side instead of on top or each other, or asking why a certain formula doesn't work for someone. It provides samples of all these scenarios. Please do not request edit access to the sample/template doc as I will not provide it; you simply need to follow the provided instructions to make a copy of your own, which you can edit and customize to your heart's content! Thanks.

They've just switched me to a Mac and won't purchase a license for MS Publisher so I've been looking for an alternative. Very helpful, even in 2023. Thank you so much for sharing this. I followed the tutorial because I wanted to see if I could do it my self. I changed the colors and and sizes of the borders. I messed up towards the end with the shading, and it saved and had to start over, but it wasn't too bad. Thanks again. :)

Hi! Thank you, this is so helpful. But I have a question. I saw the updated version of the calendar and was wondering if it's possible to add a column on the left for time? Like, 10:00 - 11:00 then 11:00 - 12:00 and so on. Will that affect any of the formulae?

Thanks, very helpful. How do you create a dynamic calendar "with" dynamic drop downs. So, if I have a set list of drop downs, and I change the month those drop-downs will follow the days of the calendar in order. I am trying to create a cleaning schedule, and M-Friday a team-member is assigned to clean, I want it to be able to automatically assign team-members based on Mon-Friday if I change the date. Is this possible?

This is great! I added this to my own sheet template. One thing I can't figure out is how to add conditional formatting (COLOUR) to the Calendar tab event based on a colour added from conditional formatting to the event list tab. Do you have a formula for this?

This leads me to my question... is there a way to document reoccurring bills each month? I want the 1st of every month to reflect that rent is due, but when I add it to the 1st of a month, when I move onto the next month, it is there, but in the same cell, rather than on the specific date that I am wanting. Is there a formula for that? Any help is appreciated!

What do you do if you need to place the calendar in the middle of the spreadsheet, i.e. the sunday column starts in column "S"?
BEN, what would the formula look like for the numerical days of the week if you had those top cells split? For instance, if you wanted the date to populate every other column? Is this possible?

Hi! Is it possible to have the "Calendar linked to events" show multiple events in one day?
Hi! I have completed my calendar following your tutorial and it works for the Month/year of March 2019. However, when i type in a different month like you did, April, June July, or any other month/year, the calendar will display the 1 on the correct day, however the days after the 1 disappear. Can anybody help me.
I've gone into the working template provided, and noticed that the entered formulas are a little bit different than initially instructed on the tutorial. I need some help so I can make a School/subject calendar for my son being home schooled due to Covid-19.

Hi, Thank you so much for the tutorial. It was very helpful; even the most complex functions were simplified so well. I was able to make the calendar, the tutorial is simply awesome! I would like to know if there is a way to change the color of the weekends in the calendar -- matching the blue blocks.
I followed your directions to a T but at 15:34, when I change to april 2019, the 1 is on monday, tuesday through friday are blank, and saturday begins 2 onward. What am I doing wrong?

Hey ! Thanks so much for this ! Just a question, do you know why the change of month is sometimes not working ? When I copy Paste my sheet in another tab and I change the month, it's not working (for example may and august 22)... But it works perfectly for the rest. Any idea ?
