From one Marine to another. Semper Fi. Your videos are awesome. You are so right that sewing can be very therapeutic. I did some sewing when I was in the corps many many years ago. Recently started again to make masks. And now I’m hooked. I can’t wait to see what I can create. And remind myself it’s only fabric and thread. I’ve started making crumb blocks and excited to see what I end up creating.

I just came across your channel while looking for things to do with scraps. I just inherited 11 tubs full of scrap strips. Some of these tubs are big enough for me to fit in to, and this isn’t the end of this stash, because this is only what I could fit in my truck. You're great!!! Love your teaching! I'm fairly new to quilting even though I grew up with a mother that was a GREAT seamstress. She was such a perfectionist that I picked out more than I sewed and this discouraged me from sewing at all. Now that I've gotten older, I've really gotten into sewing. Loving the fact that I've found out that everything DOES NOT have to be perfect!!! lol...I'll never be the seamstress that she was, but I really enjoy doing all types of things. During this pandemic, I have sewn, tons of masks and this has gotten me back into the quilting because of all of the scraps. Love this shadow block. That's what I'm going to do with the scraps from the masks. Thank you again for what you're doing! Love it!

I make “pillowcases” from fabrics I won’t use in quilts. I put one in a wastebasket next to my cutting table. When I have scraps that I can not use in crumb blocks , I put them in that wastebasket. When it gets so full I can’t cram any more fabric into it, I take the pillowcase closed. I then tank then to the local animal shelter for the dogs and cats. That way nothing goes into a landfill, and the animals have good beds.

Hi Mark, it might be nice to do a mini border in black before you sew on the scrappy border. 1.5 inches or so. And then finish it with a 2.5 border in black also. I often do this thing highlight the border when it's very colourful. Only fabric, only thread.
