Hello from Tenerife. OK as far as it goes, but you would need hours to really understand these islands. Indeed raw and beautiful. Canarian species are very different. The culture is rich and a mixture of African, South American, Guanche and Spanish. I love it here.

I'm from Las Islas Canarias. I was born in Güimar, Tenerife in 1970. My mother is from Tenerife, my father from Lanzarote. My parents left the Islands in 1972 and we migrated to Australia to escape from General Franco. I have been back 4 times. In 1982 age 12 years for 3 months, age 18 in 1988 for one year to finish high school, in 1990 - 1994 age 20-24 for four years to work, again in 1994 as I came to Australia for a month holiday, returned to Tenerife, then at the end of the year flew back to Australia. I would never live there again. Even though I am from there, have lived and worked there and my entire relatives are from there, I don't identify with the locals because I've grown up as an Australian under that lifestyle. I had a boyfriend for the 4 years I lived there and in the end he broke up with me because I was far too "modern" for his taste. Canarian men, like all Latin origin men, like to dominate and control their women. Now, I'm no feminist, I am a traditional woman, have been married for 18 years, have a son that I homeschool. So, I'm old fashioned. But "old fashioned" to an Australian raised woman is different to a Canary Island raised woman. They are completely different. I wasn't willing to be dominated like a personal possession and put up with a rude, sexist male attitude in a man. My husband is Australian and I submit to him, but he doesn't dominate me like a Spanish man would. He earns all the family income, he gives me a small allowance to spend on food for the week, he takes care of the bills, but if I need money for anything I need to ask his permission. My husband is more of a feminist than I could want to be myself. He actually wants me to work full-time and bring money into the home. I'm the more old fashioned, traditional one in our relationship!! But, I simply cannot put up with Spanish attitude to life in general. They are not my "people", just my "ancestry". Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely set of Islands to holiday in, but to live amongst hard-headed, pig-headed & backward attitudes in both men and women is not my kind of idea of a good life. I'll stick to Australia- the "lucky country "!

The Miocene era began 23 Ma and the oldest island is Fuerteventura (23Ma) though the seamounts are considerably older. So it was over the next 23 million years that all of the islands except La Palma and El Hierro had risen above the surface.

It's stramge, my suddenly remembering North by Northwest. I like that movie! He was very good in it and real tension when the protag's friend, then enemy, then friend flip flop and how she was doomed and the protag... I think Cary Grant, forgot his character name, had to alert her and only minutes before it was going to be too late! I also really liked the close the protag had running through that cornfield, wow! I loved using Mount Rushmore too as a metaphor and important part of a screenplay I wrote.

Just wanting to say it's a nice vídeo pointing out the natural side of my Island's, Bute there's a few things wood like to add, first of all that In so called Tenerife Island named so by the invadors , Which in owner language means . High white mountain,? When in fact we call it Ahchenet, and the Bereberic tribe was knowns as Tamazid, not guanche.that was the name dropt on the Island by the Conquistadores.wich in Canuri the language used on the island of Gran Canaria before the invasion ,meant Man for Achenech. For The word WUA. O GUA, Means ,man.. AN means FROM , and CHE, makes reference to the Island name. ,So there for Guanches are only from Tenerife. Ahull ,and thanks for the vídeo well done. Gracias...
