      Me neither 😂 The skylight is currently is welded up on our table, waiting for some waterproofing mechanisms to be worked out. Honestly, shrinking 10 hours into 15 minutes was quite a workout, could have made a lord of the rings feature-length film out of it...decided not to 🙃

    Hi Guy's, good job, worked out well in the end and looks good. I too found it very difficult getting the shelf the right shape. Mines not perfect but, like you I'm pleased with the result in the end. Keep up with the great videos, I love to see how you are getting on.

    Hi folks, is the front of your shelf lower than the back? If i rest my shelf on the lip above the windscreen and clear the brackets for the sun viser and handle then i get a sloping downwards at the front. Is this something you were able to avoid?

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Před 5 měsíci +1

      From what we can tell, ot slops ever to slightly forward but not significant enough to be annoying 👍

    Looks good I actually don't think the semi circle booboo looks bad either, I think you should post a little more often though Im looking forward to see how this ends up 😊 did you find your leak?

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Před 4 lety +1

      Honestly, we're growing quite fond of our booboo, we see a lot of potential 😂
      We would love to post twice a week, but it takes 2 days out of our week to edit a video, we have to research and build the actual thing, and we also work part-time as well...we're trying to, but it's like chasing our own tails. 😂
      As for the leak, we have had no further issues, we checked all the seals and couldn't find anything, and that cavity of water is gone. Our assumption at the moment is that the hole was blocked and filled the footwell with too much water, and it overflowed. I guess we'd better continuously check that drain hole!

    Hi, great ideas... where did you get your brackets from, and what sizes did you use? Also, did you need to adjust the plastic belt coverings, or did they fit back on top of the brackets? Thanks!

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Před 3 lety +1

      If memory serves, it was these ones: www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Galvanised-Heavy-Duty-Angle-Bracket-80-x-50-x-70mm/p/152816
      We test fitted a few different sizes as well to be sure what would work, as it depends how far down you put the shelf. The top plastic went back on without a hitch, just had to line up the holes. Any thicker, and I don't think they would fit. although the sin visors were alot tougher to get back into place (since the fabric added thickness) so we ended up getting longer bolts to fit.

  • @darrenneal5304
    @darrenneal5304 Před 3 lety +1

    Hi both and great video😊...with the insulation you used does it not draw in and hold moisture?

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Před 3 lety

      As far as we are aware, not in any significant manor. Rockwool has a tendancy to do this, our receclyed plastic insulation can handle moisture in the air but shouldn't be holding onto alot of moisture and rot itself from the inside out.

  • @TheSlowworms
    @TheSlowworms Před 4 lety +1

    I've been looking at those contouring gauges to do the flooring in my house but I am undecided. Would you recommend them?

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Před 4 lety +1

      In all honesty, we haven't had much success with them... I think the gauge will do a good job with simple shapes (like door frames), smaller tasks like estimating the position of pipes. However, the contour gauge only gives an estimate. I would personally always double check with physical measurements. So it can help, but you can go without it - rulers and cardboard can get the job done too.

  • @roisinloughnane822
    @roisinloughnane822 Před 3 lety

    Great video thank you! How many brackets did you use to secure shelf? Attempting this soon 😊

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Před 3 lety +1

      We used 4 brackets in total,
      2 big ones attaching to the seatbelt bolt location (www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Galvanised-Heavy-Duty-Angle-Bracket-87-x-87-x-25mm/p/246006)
      And then two smaller ones into the hole where the handle screws into
      We did alot of dry fitting to make sure the brackets would fit and screw into place, and every van is different 🤣 Best of luck 😁

      @@FreedomStrider thank you! And you screwed straight into the metal frame of the van? I love your videos - very funny and informative :)

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Před 3 lety

      There are already bolt holes in the frame there, since you have to unbolt the handle and the side plastic (this one is hiding under the plastic hook) so we just bolted the brackets into those existing holes 😁 glad you enjoy the videos 😊

      Yeah it looks a bit catastrophically misleading up until the very end, where you just cover it all in fabric so you can't see any of it!!
      As we were doing it, we were wondering "will this shelf ever get done?" as more and more stuff kept coming up, and we were just making stuff up as we were going along, but we got there in the end, the shelf is good 🤪

    Any reason you guys gave up on the spray painting of the headliner? Contouring the fabric looks like a pain in the backside!

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Před 4 lety

      Yeah, the paint started drying quite hard and after some experiments, we saw that we would have to go through a lot of paint for it to look like a solid colour and it looked kind of... bad 😊. So the fabric just made more sense, both budget-wise and aesthetically. And, you are right, contouring the fabric is a pain - it takes practice - and like usual, we were learning on the job, so hopefully it will be easier next time.
