- Here is the somewhat rare Jordan pressing with the full intro. The more oommon pressings on the Pixie label have a shorter intro. There is a variation on another label that is very rare, and I can't recall the name of that label at this time.

A GREAT DOO WOP CLASSIC THAT WAS RELEASED IN 1960 BY THE AWESOME MAJESTICS. LED BY LARRY STEELE AND ACCOMPANIED BY BOBBY COOPER, JIMMY HANNAH, BOBBY MARK(S), GEORGIE HARTNAGLE AND GEORGE FAULKNER.
Rest In Peace my old friend from the 1950's Larry Steele................wasn't that a time my friend!! paulie
This was the flip to an incredible ballad "Angel Of Love".
I enjoy Doowopp it reminds me of when I was married to my spouse who was 13 years older than I am. We had slot of good years and great memories. Thanks for the wonderful uploads. Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New You 2022 to come
I read where doo wop held high court on the east coast long after rock n' roll hit, so basically if you wanted a gig you had to really know how to sing!
I never get tired of listening to this one. Brings memories of the late, great Gus Gossert, who introduced my ears to this one on his radio show.
+William Clark Used to listen to him every weekend 1971--2 on WPIX-FM NYC !!
William Clark n
@@egbertsouce3895 Me too!
William Clark.......I think Gus Gossert got shot and killed?? Not sure about the details. Too bad that he's long gone. R.I.P. G.G. 8-9-19
Fantastic
Great rendition!.....so many characteristics of '58-'62 period....pre-Beatles....a little Dion or James Darren.
RECORDED BY THIS AWESOME NEW JERSEY GROUP IN 1960. LARRY STEELE-BOBBY COOPER-JIMMY HANNA-BOBBY MARKS-GEORGE FAULKNER AND BOB HARTNAGLE.
My cousin sings on this song.
Love this version also like the Belmonts version but this one is my favorite.
Same here
Another excellent Jersey group. Thanks for posting.
Jordan first pressings were on heavy thick vinyl. Also on translucent yellow/gold vinyl. (have both, plus the Pixie pressing)
Fred
A small hit in Trenton on WAAT in September,1960.Released on 2 other labels in 1961.
Glad you enjoyed it
I like this better than the Belmonts version
Much better , in my opinion, than the Belmonts.
Intro reminds me of "Sunday Kind Of Love".
Ballad of a DJ is really hard to find. I have been searching for it for 4 years now. First time I heard it was when My friend George a DJ from WATD in Marshfield, Mass. passed away and som, eone played it at a memorial service I attended in Clear Lake, Iowa right after george passed away. It made me cry and I had to walk out of the room.
I LISTENED TO GEORGE ALL THE TIME BECAUSE I LOVED BILL CLARK AT 'WATD' ALSO... GREAT MEMORIES MY FRIEND!!jim mig
Thank you
Group was from TRENTON,NJ probably Chambersburg area.Flip is a fine ballad.
I have a Faye Simmons on Jordan on yellow wax. I posted that one a few months ago. Thanks for clearing up the Nu-Tone / Nu-Clear thing. I never saw the record and was going off of memory
This is a sweet tune, released on the Nu-Tone label, the Jordan label then the Pixie label. Prices vary however, the most expensive vinyl is the Jordan release, pricing out at $800 +/-.
THIS WAS A GUS GOSSERT FAVORITE
@PJDooWop The only other Jordan release I know to be on yellow vinyl is Lee Andrews' "A Wise Man Said". I can't find any reference for the Sinceres release ever being on yellow wax. According to Lou Silvani's book, the Nu-Tone release came before the Pixie issue. Jordan was indeed first. If it's not already on CZcams, I'll post the the yellow Jordan issue and feature the other side, "Angel Of Love", in a few days.
Fred
PRETTY ROCKER
Nu-Tone.. that was the label I couldn't remember. I didn't realize Jordan was the first. I was under the impression that the Nu-Tone press was the first because it's so damn rare.
Hello PJ, I had the record on 3 different labels, PIXIE, NU-Tone & Jordan. The Pixie & the Nu-tone were released after the Jordan which garnered airplay on WAAT in September,1960 in Trenton.
Nice record!
Yeah man. It's a great 2 sider. The Jordan copies are tough, but you can easily get your hands on a copy on the Pixie label. I might even have one laying around.. I'll have to check
Yeah, it's a good one
First press is on Jordan and the second press is on Nu-Tone.
fantastique magnifique trop géniale ❤
I never saw this on gold wax and wasn't sure if it existed. Thank you for the clarification on that. My copy is an original thick wax pressing. I also have the Pixie pressing. The copy that I haven't been able to find is the "Nu-Clear" pressing. I hear it's a 2nd or 3rd pressing but it's most definitely the rarest in my opinion,. Do you know if The Sinceres release on Jordan exists on yellow vinyl?
a gus gossert fav
Great
Good.
Fresh is better.
You just have to keep looking for it. And go to the end of the world.
agreed
holy crap, is that a metronome ticking in the background?
💃🎶🎼🎶🎼🎤🎤
The song you're referring to is "Ballad of a DJ"... or it might be titled "Ballad of a Dee Jay" and yes, it's by The Del Satins. I'm on Facebook. You can send me a message with your info, or if you go to my CZcams front page you'll find a link to my FB page
Appropriation of intro of "Sunday KInd of Love." ?
Yes, I think so too
Still enjoyable. Good group sound, though the lead is merely on@@JohnnyDeMarco-jp8vb
The Roomates did a great cover on this one. Check Utube.
