What a band, what a voice. Just got some very bad news of the death of a friend while Hold On was playing, what can I say, they couldn't say it better.
This woman has a magnificent echo chamber for a throat and a spectacular amphitheater for a mouth. Her entire group is incredible. What great talent.
WOW! Why is this the first time I've ever heard this band? They are phenomenal! I had goosebumps 30 seconds into the first song.
Most excellent! Her voice is reminiscent of Amy Winehouse who studied Bobby Womack & Etta James.

Few day ago I didn´t know this band, then a co-worker told me to search them and listen, and, it's awesome!!! The sound is so soul, so southern, so deep and rich, very good vocals and very good musicians. Greetings from Monterrey MX!!!!!

Brittany has a voice that I have not heard since Joplin. I seriously thought Blues Rock died in 1981, but thank god it's back. Love you guys!
I can't imagine how any one could dislike this!!! She's an Old Soul in a young body--an awesome voice that just connects with each word so nicely. This band takes the old groove and makes it so fresh and new. It's enough to make this guitar player misty. I love it!!!

Her voice is a gem. It is so rare to find such a soulful voice nowadays.
I found Alabama Shakes because of the movie Silver Linings Playbook, the song Always Alright. Glad I searched them out back then, they just get better every time I listen to them. This performance here on KEXP is amazing, just like all of their live performances are.
I feel comfortable saying this is the band of the 2010's. Already. Such a great, great debut album and these are the 4 best songs from it imo. Great video!!!!

what a bunch of talent in ONE ROOM ... it's amazing they met ... and play like if it was 200 years ago. ..
This young woman has a voice that reaches deep into your soul. She has a wonderfully deep rich sound that will get you up out of your seat and want to dance. It is quite refeshing to hear this gritty, hard rock and roll sound again, it's been a long time since I heard such good music.
britt, you are an amazing vocalist. glad you guys decided to form a band.
but please, do us all a favor and glide right on past that 27 club so we can all enjoy your talent for many years to come.

I really enjoy listening to these guys...She's playing an old Harmony guitar. Lots of soul which is lacking in most of today's music. Nice to see you on the Grammy's to.
What the heck have I been missing in my musical life??? They are simply amazing and talented! Definitely underrated but so glad to hear this pure organic sound not pimped out and musical soul not abandoned!

That is a *great* line. That is the best line of poetry I've heard in awhile. Brittany Howard is a poet, a musical prodigy and her band Alabama Shakes will be recognized as the first great American rock and roll band of the 21st century.

Love this new music group "Alabama Shakes" that just hit the airwaves this past year. This isn't just retro soul music but they have their own kind of sound. Being from the West Coast, it's great to see this new original modern sound coming out of Alabama.
No disrespect, but you must not know the music history of Alabama. Do some research on the Muscle Shoals area, your mind will be blown.
None taken :) Actually, I have half sister who lived in Muscle Shoals, Alabama growing up, but me being from the west coast, I have a different taste in music then her. But, yes, I'll check out the Muscle Shoals music scene. I'm sure it was different than 30 years ago when my sister grew up there, plus they were very strong Southern Baptists.

A very good interviewer prepared and so nice to such kind and receptive professional musicians. This is a first time to relax and enjoy deeply the soulful sounds that may be retro reading for some but for me, that might apply in my reading while with music, it is about living in the moment and I do not look so hard on the era or state of times going on in the word trying to figure out where inspiration comes from. I believe and know it comes from within this band and all of them are very nice and their responses are kind. Yes, for wishing them continued health and prosperity while music is best in many ways for many reasons, I think.

She's right: people, somehow, want new experiences on music but refuse to listen to new music. Can't blame them though, since most of the music on the mainstream radio goes like "shake that ass", "I'm young and rich, and I want to party", teens, and beats, electronic noises, and stuff like that. I wish people were as open to new stuff as they're on youtube. They try new stuff here but do not give a chance to local bands. I bet this band had to go out of home to find an open fair audience, just like the Pumpkins, that moved to the right place so they could reach the right audience.
