      After checking out His credential's, and T Colin Campbells, I'm at 110%. I'm 66yrs old. On March I came as close as you can get to a Heart attack. They placed a stent in to stop what was fixing to be a heart attack. Within 3 days' after I found Dr Esselstyn and have been eating per his suggestions, and as of today, I'm off all meds and feeling great.

      @@johnb4183 My understanding is that Dr Esselstyn has only one book, which is Reverse and Prevent Heart Disease. It’s a good one to own but it is widely available in US libraries. His wife and children have also written support books, decent books but are not as scientific nor as compliant as the Dr Essy’s book. Mine is dog-eared and falling apart. :)

    Love this presentation. One thing comes to mind given the trend of eating only 1-2 times a day. Seems you could irritate the endothelial tissue once lee day with an animal based meal but if that were your only meal wonder if that would be much healthier.

    I'm confused by all of the conflicting information on nutrition and CVD online. I would ask this though; if plant-based diets protect you from arterial plaque (and even reverse it), why do vegetarians till have heart attacks and strokes?

    • @MatthewAbendroth
      @MatthewAbendroth Před 8 měsíci

      Great question. Board-certified lifestyle medicine and family medicine doc here. It's not just "plant-based" that protects. Oreos and french fries are vegan, and ice cream is vegetarian; same with countless more food-like products that people gobble up. Processed ultra-palatable foods ruin your palate for the subtle flavors of whole, natural foods, thus reducing intake of health-promoting foods; they cause obesity and liver disease, and are pro-inflammatory and oxidizing; and cause insulin resistance, and through those mechanisms, they also cause coronary artery disease. "Plant-based" isn't enough. The diets in the studies by Esselstyn and Ornish and so forth are whole-food plant-based diets, with the emphasis being on WHOLE FOOD, ie, unprocessed. Eat clean, unprocessed foods exclusively and you are 80% of the way there just by doing that. It can be challenging getting enough protein on a whole-food plant-based diet (Dr. Gregor recommends mixing lentils in your overnight oats --no thanks) and there is no one diet perfect for everyone. Don't stress about it too much. Start with just eliminating all processed foods beyond the most minimal level of processing, like unsweetened soymilk, for example, is just water and soybeans, which does remove a lot of good fiber from the soybeans, but it's a great way to boost your protein intake for people who eat whole-food plant-based. I could go on but I'll stop there. Good luck sorting it all out, there is a ton of information, much of it conflicting, in the nutrition space. Start with basics.
