Contreras has 3 errors to date, while Smith has 2. Smith also has a better fielding pct. at .990 to .983, and Will has the second best pct. in the majors at nailing potential base stealers.
Of note: only two starting catchers still have not committed an error - d'Arnaud of Atlanta and Stephenson of Cincinnati.

It’s going to be a rough year period for the jays and that’s coming from a season ticket holder. This defense over offense experiment has failed. Yes defense matters but when you can’t get people on base, advance runners and then score runs then essentially all that defense won’t matter. And scoring 12 runs isn’t exactly showcasing amazing defense.

Im from Montreal and a NHL fan but we watch MLB just to see Ohtani play.
As a jays fan I can't lie, this was one of the worst losses the team has had in a while. The static lineup proved its ineffectiveness again and the team is just not ready to compete with the big boys. It's just downright terrible and we saw a lot of this coming from how the offseason was handled.
The management needs cleaning out now. Before it’s too late. All those in the dugout. At least.

I was very happy to see him come to my Jays team. He's got the highest average for the Jays right now, mind you that's not saying much considering our top hitters are all close to .200

Springer batting .228, Guerrero .206, Bichette .216 and Biggio .238. They're going nowhere with that.

Not fair to mention Biggio here. He has a .351 OBP which is respectable for someone who plays sparingly. In fact, the guy was on an 8 game hitting streak then John Schneider benched him for 2 games. Since that hitting streak he has started 4 games. His average was up near .300 on that hitting streak. I’m a big Biggio supporter because he has been TERRIBLY mismanaged in Toronto. Bounced from position to position, told to change his approach at the plate, not given regular playing time and through all that he has kept his head down and not said a word.

I'm a Canadian Blue Jays fan living in Japan. At no time did I think there was any chance Ohtani would go to Toronto, a team that has virtually no presence in Japan.

I don't expect the Jays to win any games VS LAD moving forward. Their lineup is too tough and our offense has no chance to match theirs. We didn't lose all our games in the opening series but that's when Shohei was still sleeping.
