    The coolest thing about going all white, other than it being deadly, some markers and you can make it whatever pattern you want.

    You're right, it does not have to pretty, it only need to catch fish.

    Not sure why I'm just now finding your channel. There aren't many/any channels that go in depth into bass fly fishing. Seems like you cover pretty much the same stuff I can fish in So.Md. with some shallow ponds and the Chesapeake Bay. Subscribed 👍🏻

    Thanks Alvin. Your fly tying videos are both informative and entertaining. I tied a variation of the Fat Baby with white or black UV Life Flex Wrap and Taxi Eyes, which are glass eyes mounted on bendable wire. It takes more time to tie than with glue on eyes and makes the fly heavier. Will try it out soon on a friend's smallmouth pond.

    Nice one! Simple but effective..I snag bushes and trees working shorelines, and go to great lengths to retrieve them, but have noticed the anger level of losing a fly is directly proportional to how hard it was to tie.😠😂 Thanks for sharing this! Good fishing to you!🎣

    I love your simplistic approach to flies! Sometimes I think we over complicate this sport to justify (fill in the blank). As I sit and bend shanks by the dozen to tie up feather game changers.... Each of these is an hour tie, but I'll bet I could catch the same fish if I just tossed a Fat Baby.
    Great video, love the laugh!

    Can you show how it acts in water? I tied one with some EP brush (because I didn't have any of that CCT Fur or whaterver it's called) but mine doesn't slowwly sink. Kinda floats on the surface or just breaking surface. Is that how it works? Has some great action...but thought it was suposed to be more like a minnow/bluegill.

    • @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing
      @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing  Před 3 lety +1

      I tie them with a few different materials. Sometimes even with a spun deer hair head. Depending on the material it will sink or kind of float.

  • @kodygrant2896
    @kodygrant2896 Před 4 lety +1

    Hey Alvin, I believe I heard you say that you pinched down the barb on the hook? I am all for it but curious to know more about it. Do you do this cause your local waters enforce this? Also, do you do this on your saltwater flies as well? I've thought about doing this as well just for the well being of the fish. Especially if the fly breaks off while hooked up on a fish I would think the hook would have better chances of falling out of the fishes mouth and not being stuck in the fish for however long it would take to get rubbed off or rusted out. Also do you lose any fish without the barb while hooked up? Sorry for the lengthy comment, I'm just really curious about it and have been considering doing the same to my hooks but wanted a little more insight first. Thanks

    • @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing
      @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing  Před 4 lety +1

      I don't think you loose any more fish as long as you keep a tight line. Some people think you hook more fish without the barb, because the barb does create some resistance when the point goes in. I smash the barbs because it make releasing the fish a lot easier and if someone gets hooked it is a lot easier to remove a barbless hook.
