Analyzing U2 LIVE at Slane Castle...incredible performance. My band: open.spotify.c... Socials: Twitter: / wrighteousj Tiktok: / wrighteousj Instagram: / wrighteousj
As being part of the people behind the Berlin Wall where it was forbidden to listen to the Western music, in my 20tees I have just dreamed to see U2 live. I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to attend their concert in Tel Aviv in 1997 and all I could do is to cry as it was also my first concert ever. Thank you for this reaction, it brought back all that magical moments from my life that worth a living ✨️ My memories of their performance of the song 'One', which is still my favourite U2 song, will never fade away ♥️ and their message was unbelievably powerful especially having the context of the people living in that country in mind.
I grew up in east Germany as well, in Leipzig. I heard the Joshua Tree album 1987 and was a fan ever since. 2 weeks after the wall came down I crossed the border with my 20 Deutsch Mark gift we got and bought myself that album 🥰
It was a powerful performance given that Bono's dad passed away after a long illness only a day or so before the show. Poor guy was exhausted and grieving but watching the band and audience rally around him was quite powerful. I've seen them perform many times over the years and their concerts are very consistent in terms of quality. They put a lot of effort into their shows; I've never seen a bad one. Thanks for the video, cheers )
@@wrighteousj The transition just before you started (before this track is ‘All I Want Is You’ I have the Live DVD) it as the other comment says his father passed away a few days before and he is shouting ‘it’s Paul, it’s your Bono’ I believe it’s called Keening or keaning…it every emotion coming out at the same time from love to hate, joy, sadness, relief and so on Love, Purpose n Peace MCD
U2 literally got me through high-school when my dad got diagnosed with cancer and their music helped me grieve, love, fight, push on, and even connected me to my faith in dark, confusing times. I'll always come back to U2, every time.
You have never been closer to a divine experience than hearing this song live, the energy that flows is so strong that your hair stands on end, tears run down your face and you just have to smile happily. welcome to a u2 concert.
Bono's dad had recently passed & his emotion was well...you see 🤘 Fantastic breakdown & reaction. It's interesting to get a pros perspective on these live performances. Great stuff.
Yes Bono's Dad Bob Died the week in the build up to the first Slane Castle gig People forget they played two separate Shows i was both of them and Bono actually buried Bob the day before the show how he and the Band got through it was beyond belief Great line for support and on the backup list was the RHCP and an up and coming Coldplay "
The connection in between Bono (and the band) and the audience is unbelievable unique. U2 fans always feel connected as ONE and Bono is definitely my hero. He grew up to be such a wise kind man, I love hear him talking as well. I hope you can experience them just ones. You will not regret it!
Something that I think is underrated about U2 is The Edge’s backing vocals. Much like his guitar playing he always finds a way to enhance the songs without doing too much. This song, A Sort of Homecoming, and One Tree Hill pop up in my mind. Great reaction vid mayne!
I believe this show was only a few days after Bono's father passed away and his funeral was the day before. It was so fitting this gig was in Dublin the band's home!
Bono's Dad had passed away just days before that concert and he dedicated this song to him. He joked that his Dad used to ask him when was he going to get a "proper" job 😊
Definitely recommend more live U2! This entire concert is worth a watch, and if you want to see them in their peak rock spectacle form, check out some stuff from the zooTV live from Sydney concert.
Thank you for this great reaction. I've seen them 13 times and every time is a new overwhelming experience. This is one of 2 shows at Slane Castle with 85,000 people each night. This is my second favorite live performance show of theirs. I would suggest checking out performances from ZooTV Sydney 1993. ZooTV was a tour that changed all live concerts from then on. They were the first to create the long runway to a B-Stage which is pretty much used by all bands now. The Stage setup was overwhelming in size and technology, that Mick Jagger called them A-holes because they were going to have to find a way to match it. Highlights from ZooTV show are Bullet The Blue Sky, Love is Blindness, Running to Stand Still, and many more. The biggest rock band for 40 years and still going strong.
I have had the pleasure of experiencing this band live five times. The album version of ”Streets” isn’t even in my top ten U2 songs, but man, the live version. Whenever the Edge goes into that riff, the whole place just explodes. Its hard to explain if you haven’t experienced it but it SO emotional. I love U2 so much.
I've seen them four times. During their ZooTV show, when they blast the crowd with a million watts of light, you could feel the heat coming from the stage.
There is no more religious experience you can have than when you're in the crowd when U2 launches into this song live. You will see God walk through the room, as Bono famously describes. You feel your soul leave your body. I've seen U2 live three times, and I can tell you that no drug I've ever taken, no orgasm I've ever had, can ever equal that experience.
cheers WrighteousJ well you pretty much summed this iconic U2 song up Perfectly i attended this show and it has to go down as one my favourite U2 concerts ever im gonna suggest from the same show the song called " ONE " its a song which for me they can never leave out of their setlist its just a song that grips you spiritually "
I've seen U2 25 times and Where The Streets Have No Name live, especially from the Sun Devil Stadium , is the greatest live song of all time.I've experienced the euphoria of that song many times and the energy from the crowd after hearing that first note is just incredible.........better than any drug!!
His dad had passed away 5 days before this gig. I saw U2 live in Buenos Aires ( Pop Mart Tour) I recommend u to react to any song of their show in Sao Paulo Brazil in 98. Bono said after that was the night that saved U2 as a band.
I totally appreciate you bringing U2 to many new listeners. The stories and meaning behind the music is amazing. BTS Army should really give them a chance. Their songs have touch on topics of their time, my time, and brought awareness to all realms...just like 7 normal boys from Korea are doing. Thank you for this reaction. Peace and love. Hope to see you live in Ohio.
Amazing review... really wonderful analysis!! Glad to discover this channel. I'l give you a list of u2 live performance that, if you want, you'll absolutely Love and Feel it: 1) U2 Every Breaking Wave - Live MTV EMA 2014 2) U2 Miss Sarajevo - Live Milan 2005 3) U2 Kite - Live Slane Castle 4) U2 Bad - Live Aid 1985 5) U2 With Or Without You - Live POP MART Chile 6) U2 Out Of Control - Live Slane Castle Etc...
Totally agree, add Coimbra 1, any Elevation Tour show post Oct 2001, all the Joshua Tree Tour 17 & 19...Popmart from Europe onwards. All Zoo TV & Zooropa, even when Bono has no voice, he delivers with passion and as if it would be the last show on earth, which make all their concerts, unique.
Ok first I love that you’re doing this. As a 30+ year U2 fan, you really need to watch the where the streets have no name at sun devil stadium in the 80’s. Holy shit. Pure magic. Get chills every time I watch it. Also I’ve seen them live many times. The best show was zoo tv. That’s u2 in their prime, for me. But Larry, the drummer, playing live, is like no other drummer I’ve seen live. It’s booming pounding strong that doesn’t quit. So glad you noticed this too. High marks sir. Thank you.
The very beginning bono is basically wailing and crying out for his father. You can see edge’s face and pain for Bono. There’s a actually a clip that has all I want is you that transitions into this song. One of the best transitions.
In case you didn’t know why he was so passionate during that song-Bob Hewson, the father of lead singer Paul "Bono" Hewson, died of cancer several days before the first concert. U2's first night at Slane was on 25 August, a day after Bono's father was buried. He dedicated the song "Kite" to his father.
Very nice reaction! Thanks for that. I was at the Show in cologne Germany which I will Never forget. To be honest. I have tears in my eyes watching this.
Thank you! I love your reaction! They and you are amazing! I raised my sons on YouYube and it was my sons first concert and of course I was with him!(my 3rd U2 concert, 10th row!!! Thank you!
Amazing live band. I recommend live Bad, bullet the blue sky from Paris 2015 or Until the end of the world. They have so much energy live and can make 85k people feel intimate
You really should watch the live version of The song Kite from this same concert. He dedicated it too his dad who just passed away. Very emotional singing.
talking about energy from 4 on the floor thoughout, the out-tro on the original version on Joshua Tree had all 3 instruments playing every single beat for 16 bars. intense
God, I haven't seen them in forever or even listened and this gave me chills - thank you So Much for doing a reaction on them. I've got to go find the video and watch it in full. So yeah, I came for Astronaut and liked your reaction so checked out your place. Really nice.
U2's was the first music I ever truly heard growing up..my parents were 80-90s kids and massive fans so there was never a time it wasn't playing around the house when my siblings and I were younger.. they've given me such an appreciation for music and live bands that's so missing from today's younger society-- the intro to this song never fails to give instant chills
Thanks for your reaction to the Best Live band of all time. The Slane Castle concert was filmed just days after Bono buried his father. The whole concert is worth watching as it is filled with love ❤and respect for the fans and his father. The song Kite 🪁 was written about his Dad and is a moving performance. 😢definitely check out more live performances you won’t be disappointed. 🎶 BTW this concert was filmed I believe on Sept 1, 2001 right before 9/11 and before the world changed.
You absolutely nailed the reaction and what U2 is all about, especially live. Seeing them live is transcendental! Checkout anything from ZooTV live in Sydney for the best vocals ever
With I still haven't found what I'm looking for, Where the streets have no name is my favorite song on the Joshua Tree album (but then, all the songs are good on that album; I saw the Joshua Tree tour: epic). I've been a fan of U2 since I was about 12, listening to their music on the radio while I did my homework. I'm glad you appreciate the intro and outro lead lines. To me, they make this song exceptional. It makes you want to put it on a never-ending loop and it fits the lyrics so well. You should check out Sunday Bloody Sunday if you haven't yet. Another amazing performance and amazing song. Nice to see a young guy who has a clue about who these guys are. I'm astonished that so few young people know of them, or many bands and music before 2000 for that matter. It's like the whole era, which was musically extremely rich, has gone forgotten. Much to discover there. Rock with a purpose among other things. Peace.
Love this comment. It’s interesting bc even though I’m not a “huge” fan of their’s I’ve come to really appreciate and study their live-performances for our own…so it’s almost like, it’s not that I’m a fan it’s more that I have them as an influence? Idk, but I have immense respect for their quality and heart.
One of the greatest live acts! I saw this tour in Milwaukee, Wisconsin paying 30 bucks for GA tickets 2 hours on the street before the show and found myself front and center of that heart catwalk and saw Bono looking right at me during this song which freaked me out because he's a huge iconic artist and I was a huge fan since I was a kid and as a guitar player hearing the Edge play live with his gear is sonically from another planet! That whole show was a religious experience!
I can’t see or hear how a live version can have the magic that we had in2987coming back from the record store too anxious to keep frim opening the shrink wrap &.getting that new record smell then Geting inside and dropping the needle
Watch U2 Kite Live from Slane Castle. Talk about raw emotion. Bono’s dad died earlier in the week and he dedicated the song to his dad. He lost pitch during the song, and you feel so sad about his pain and loss. Trust me you will love it. Thanks.
If you watch and listen to the whole transition from the song before to this one, it's the greatest live transition in history! Gives goosebumps everytime! Just go back another 90 seconds and you'll see what I mean! czcams.com/video/F3e2f4bzumY/video.html
What a Band dude Incredible! Check out the Live Performance of Bad/Where the streets have no name Boston 2001...If you want to hear Heart and Soul it's Something Spiritual 🇮🇪
Yep, and the funeral was the day of this show. The segue from "All I Want is You" into this version of 'Streets' really adds to the emotion of this performance. When they do 'Kite' earlier in this show Bono nearly breaks around the line about saying goodbye.
You missed the magical transition!!! WTF!! Dont you do any research on the back story of a performance before you do a song? WTSHNN followed All I Want is You. Because of the extremely emotional circumstances that went into this concert, the transition became a sudden catharsis for Bono as he raised his voice to his departed father , calling out to him in his grief and suddenly the meanings of both songs were transformed into a beautiful elegy to his father. He changed a line in Where the Streets to "... I'll show you a Place with no Sorrow or Pain (Heaven) where the streets have no name!" Your response video is unfortunate and clueless. Do better.
Not quite... but it was within a few weeks. I was at the show in Manchester 2001 at the end of August around the time his dad just passed away. I remember the rumours in the crowd that the show may get cancelled etc.
It was performed the day after his father was buried Bob Hewson, the father of lead singer Paul "Bono" Hewson, died of cancer several days before the first concert. U2's first night at Slane was on 25 August, a day after Bono's father was buried. He dedicated the song "Kite" to his father.
Appreciate you all watching! Hope you enjoyed it!
But he was singing Where the streets'v no name instead of Where the Streets hav no name, which annoyed me and he sounded a little half p**sed!!
I'd love to see you break down more of U2's live performances ❤
As Noel Gallagher said, there is no better song intro in live music.
100%

His wailing in the intro always brings tears to my eyes. He was hurting and grieving. So powerful
I really pity people that have never seen U2 live, your (music) life is not complete without it!

I've seen many, many bands live in my life time and U2 are by far the best live. Their energy and Bonos performances are just incredible.
I believe this show was only a few days after Bono's father passed away and his funeral was the day before. It was so fitting this gig was in Dublin the band's home!
U2 a Legend
"All I Want is You" is the song that precedes this and it is one of the greatest bridges between songs I have ever heard...
I love their live performance of Gloria, just shows off Bono’s voice layers
I’ll have to watch
The Superbowl 36 performance of this song by U2 following the 9.11 attack is stirring ...
Bono's Dad had passed away just days before that concert and he dedicated this song to him. He joked that his Dad used to ask him when was he going to get a "proper" job 😊

Listening to any live version of Streets is so much better if you listen to the song leading up to it. It's all about the build-up.

Watch ZOO TV ! The best momento of U2
I think this is the concert where Bono's father died like 3 days before.
Do better.
The transition is fantastic. Love it so much.
160.000 visitors there.
Filmed the day after Bono’s father’s death.
