I got the Omnibus when it came out...I like having the whole story in a single format just like Ex Machina
Really great seeing all the different formats for this series! I ordered the omnibus edition a couple of weeks ago and it’ll be here soon so this video is especially timely haha
Fantastic overview, Omar! Regarding the compendium: For DMZ it took 1,5 years from Volume 1 to 2. Therefore it's not out of the question DC will announce a second volume for Y very soon. Until they do, we also wouldn't recommend relying on the format. Add to that that the 5 thick paperbacks are 100$ retail combined and the compendiums would add up to 120$, both having softcover and the same trim size.

I do love these Retroviews!! I've been wanting to get this story back in my collection for a while now. Just can't decide on the format. I'm leaning towards the deluxes just for ease of reading but, lol, the struggle is real.
Love seeing an overview of all the different collections! I don’t see a ton of videos that do this very cool
I had these in deluxes, but upgraded to the omni. Afterwards I regret that decision actually. The deluxes was nice and easy to read, but the omni is to thick IMO, around 1000 pages is enough for an omni to be readable. Only upside is that the omni takes less space. IMO the art is not good enough to buy the absolutes even if it's one of my GOATs, if I had unlimited money that would be an option though ;)

About a week ago I finally got round to ordering volume 3 of the Absolute edition, absolute is my favourite format.
I had finished reading the 2nd volume, finally, had it for a couple of years and not got round to reading it but eventually I did so decided it was time to get volume 3.
I have been waiting every day since to get the notification that it had been dispatched.
Today I got 2 notifications in the space of about 5 seconds, one was the dispatch notification and the other was the notification from CZcams for this video!

I'd say Absolutes. But the paper quality isn't glossy. But if you don't mind it, then Absolutes are the way to go.
Y is my favorite story of all time!! Definitely want to upgrade to absolutes on this one. Get us a reprint, Omar!!
All three Absolutes are available on Amazon man. Reprint not really needed yet.
Just finished re-reading the Omnibus last week. One of my favourites. Looking forward to seeing what they do with the TV show.

Perfect beautiful series. Can't wait for the show. I have the deluxe editions, was lucky to find a complete set over the years. Everything else I have as an omni, but 60 issues seems too big for that format so happier with what I have. Absolute too much for me.

Read the omni a few days back. Loved the story.
Loved this series when were published. I even remember Shia LaBeouf was seriously considered to play Yorick in live-action adaptations.

I plan to get the omni eventually. Just so many omnis to buy right now which is awesome because back then, almost all the omnis I wanted were OOP lol.
Will always appreciate these as I still need to get a lot of books and it's always interesting to see about the quality/extra's/size comparisons. Will you be doing Fables down the line? Was looking at those absolutes but they seem to be cancelled and compendiums coming instead? Any word on new stock of Transmetropolitan absolutes?
I have the first 4 TPBs and never read them. Gonna have to do that and decide on whether I'd get any of these!

I have it in the 5 collected paperbacks (deluxe). Absolute editions don't quite work when you're chucking them in a bag for a trip away. Or if you're just sitting on the loo
I bought the deluxes in 2012, had never read the series and loved it. Hopefully the TV series does it justice
Brian K. Vaughan is the best science fiction author of this millenium, bar none. Y and Saga and Runaways and Paper Girls. I wish Hugo voters would wake up and recognize.
I've got the five thick trades for this series and that's good for me. I like the series a lot, but I don't love the art enough to get it in oversized format (or Absolute editions). Those Absolute Editions do look very nice tho.

For those who prefer trades, the 5 hardcovers are also available in trades. It's easier to collect (and to read) than the 10 original trades.
There's a compendium now as well but only Volume 1 has been released so far.
Do the deluxes have glued or sewn binding? I don’t think you mentioned that in the video.
Just finished the deluxe graphic novels. Such a great premise that I feel ran out of steam the further I read. Still worth the read.
They knew right away how many issues are gonna be, Vaughan pitched it as a 60 issues series.
Ive owned the absolutes for awhile now definitely worth it if you like the story.

Omar! for the love of everything please tell Marvel to reprint Daredevil Omnis, mainly Brubaker but miller and waid would be nice too. I finally got a new job and can afford Omnis but the ones i want are all sold out! :(

Missed out on some deluxe editions so I bought the omnibus. It’s too thick. Should have been cut in half got two. I may do that myself actually.

Are the deluxe editions still inprint or will they be reprinted?
Based on past behavior, once DC prints the thick paperback version of the Deluxe edition, they stop publishing the deluxe version.
If the FX series does well, they may change their behavior for this series.

I bought the trades of this and then upgraded to the Deluxe Editions when I found someone online selling them off surprisingly cheap. I really like that format. Those volumes are solid but usable. I’ve never really understood the omnibus thing. I have a few, but they’re so unwieldy. And a number of mine now have pretty awful page sag (Kill or Be Killed looks warped, because it’s stretched so much).
As for the story, bar some slightly iffy male gaze issues, I thought it worked pretty well and sustained itself for the entire run. This wasn’t a series that overstayed its welcome, despite there being 60 issues. Well worth checking out, I’d say.
Probably better to get the compendiums than the tpbs

Yknow the covers of those diff editions are so good and immediately u want the bigger one but the interior artwork is ... uhh not so .. not not good , but more like not special enough.
This is my favourite series ever although I do wonder that if it was made now how it would incorporate trans issues because from my memory that wasn’t touched upon

Just finished this series. So damn good and very underrated. Ending is pretty poor, but didn’t totally ruin it for me as I was told the ending sucked. TV show looks meh IMO.
Why does Walt's Comic shop sell OOP books over cover price? Absolute Death HC is there for sale at 179,00 €. That's DOUBLE the price!!!!

Idk, BKV usually has interesting ideas in his comics but the exectuion or the ending doesn't always deliver. As it is the case with YtLM. Omnibus is more than enough..

Cool book. Better than the show. Show was mad woke. Series was done well. Cool read but not something I cannot read a lot.. 355 got screwed
