Yep switch that R3 to an R1 for me too. The R3 is nice but is hungry for more processing power. That coprocessor was the missing link which feeds all the other benefits. Focus down to smaller faces, faster, more decisive, action tracking. Translation modules in Lightroom when you want to keep the Canon magic but avoid those days when the file overloads cause lockups.
Last but not least the layered options AF-on button in the R1 offers more control where it is needed. Hopefully that includes a way to kill the frame flare just before the shutter goes off. Oh yeah, and the priceless half second before I complete the shutter when too many of my pictures get lost.

0:52 I'm guessing he didn't want to do a 10 minute lecture for an ad spot but technically having one RAID array still isn't total data security.
Secure data is backed up THREE times.
    1. Local active storage (NAS).
    2. Offline cold storage (cannot be hit with encryption hijacking).
    3. Cloud storage/off site storage (in case your house burns down).
Plus remember that if your data isn't stored with the ZFS or BTRFS filesystem then your files are all still susceptible to bitrot (individual bits of data will randomly flip over time and corrupt files, every file needs to be re-written periodically or else it will just become corrupted unreadable data).

I would be tempted to go with a 600mm f/4 instead of the 15-35mm though. Having 45 MP and less reach (eg: 300mm on an R5) yields far less image quality than 24 MP and sufficient reach (like across a baseball/softball diamond or from 50 yards away when shooting behind the endline in football or soccer).

I don't see Canon bringing either lens out based on rumored specs. A 400-600 would probably be deemed too narrow a range so I consider the 300 to 600 more likely, but as a variable f4-5.6/6.3 to keep the size managable. Considering the price of their 100-500, I would be surprised if such a prosumer lens would retail for less than 6k USD. If it does show up as a f2.8-4.5, expect it to be 1.5x as big and expensive as an f4-5.6 version (although I would almost argue it would be worth it!).

    R1 and a R5 mk ||. Since I have a 24-105mm f2.8L and a 70-200mm f2.8L, I’d take an 85mm f1.2L, 100-300mm f2.8L, 400mm f2.8L, and 28-70mm f2.0.

Nikon shooter here. Assuming the "Supermarket Sweep" question applied here as well and I could add any two bodies and 4 lenses to my stash... Z6III, Z8, 14-24 f/2.8 S, 135 f/1.8 Plena, 400 f/4.5, 600 f/4 TC. Hell, I'd be ecstatic just adding one of those items. A faster 35mm lens that isn't the new shitty f/1.4 non-S would be fantastic, too.

For a better 35 f1.4 than any CaNikon there’s the Voigtlander 35f1.5 or APO 35 or any of the Leica Sumiluxes- they can be easily adapted with AF adapters on the Z full frame cameras.
The difference in image quality is astounding.

From those shelves and that situation it would have to be the R1 and the R5 II (as I already have the R3), plus the 600 F4L (I have a 2x so no need for the 1200 F8L), 400 F2.8L, 100-300 F2.8L and 24-105 2.8L. I think that covers me for most things 😁

Oooh for my bodies I would take two identical units, so it would be either R5 or R5 mk II, maaaaybe I could do the R3 or R1 instead, but I would personally want the pixel count on the R5 versions... For the lenses I would go with 28-70 mm f/2.0, 400 mm f/2.8, 600 mm f/4 and an ultrawide zoom lens.

    I'd do an R5 and an R6. I'd want a 35 1.4, 24-105 F2 (or 2.8, can't remember), 70-200 2.8, and some sort of wide angle.
I shoot Nikon, but that would be sweet to choose from any camera+lens combo, regardless if it's another manufacturer.

  • @emix1010

I enjoy the f/4 zoom lenses (14-35mm and 24-105mm in RF, and EF 70-200mm mkII), as most of the time I’ll be carrying them around.
I certainly miss in the longest reach lenses, so the RF 600mm would be a dream (to carry around too).
The 35mm f/1.4 is a great new entry, so it’s in too.
And for special occasions, the 24-70mm f/2.8.
I have worked the upper body a little (hello EF 100-400mm L), nowhere near Jared’s level of course, but that’s one reason I’d avoid the f/1.2 big ones, primes and zoom.
I would then pick one R5 mkII, but in the real world, I plan to go for the original R5 next time there is a sale. To me it’s enough of a photographer’s camera.
The other camera would be the R3, smaller than the R1.
I’ll admit I may be a little too pragmatic, but imagining going out with this dream pick better fits my experience.
One more lens pick? So I will go against what I said earlier, and grab an 85mm f/1.2 DS. Might as well.
    I shoot RAW (or cRAW…).
Keep up the good work, Jared!

Having a very small budget, I’ve been using the EOS R with the 70-200 f2.8 and the RF 50mm 1.8. I do want more of a reach so for me, any 600 down to the 35mm or the 16-24mm would make my total lens package. But I just had my power converter break and it’s at Canon Service and they want 400 to fix it. I can’t afford that. So I’ll be selling all my gear and going to my dumb camera phone. Very sad week for me.
