    Sally Gabori first picked up a paintbrush at 81 years old and in her eight year career produced over 2,000 artworks. Her work was noticed by an art dealer and Gabori went on to hold exhibitions and sell her works. During this time, Brett Evans was the Manager of the Mornington Island Art Centre.
    Evans stole thousands of dollars from Gabori, it is believed Evans stole 169 of Gabori's artworks which he privately sold from his home, pocketing the all the profits.
    In 2020, Brett Evans was charged with 35 counts of using his position dishonestly with the intention of directly gaining an advantage. He was sentenced in February 2022 to four and a half years imprisonment with twenty months non-parole.
