Yet, among over 80 countries that gained independence post-WWII,
Korea is the only nation to achieve economic growth and democracy on par with the European Union.

The history of this nation, which achieved in half a century what took Western countries 300 years - economic development and democratization - is a "miracle" of modern history.
But Koreans say,
The country's achievements are not the result of a "miracle" but the "might" that grew from the soil of a long history.

With a history spanning five millennia, this country has seen several dynasties last over 500 years, earning it the title of a "land of tradition."
500 years of the Joseon Dynasty before Republic of Korea.

1,000 years of Silla Kingdom before Goryeo Dynasty.
700 years each of Goguryeo Kingdom and Baekje Kingdom before Silla Kingdom.

The first kingdom of this land, Gojoseon Kingdom, envisioned a world with the philosophy of 'Hongik Ingan' - to benefit all humanity.

Jikji, the world's oldest extant book printed with movable metal type.
This country invented metal type printing, revolutionizing the spread of knowledge, centuries before the West.
In 1443,
King Sejong the Great, the nation's ruler, created the Korean alphabet out of love for his people.
This script, renowned for its scientific design, has helped this country become a global leader in information and communication technology.

Because of its peninsular geopolitical position, this country would constantly suffer, losing its fortunes between continents and oceans.
But Koreans say,
Turn the world map upside down, and you can see this country soaring with vibrant energy towards the world.
Just as the peninsula nations of Greece and Italy gave birth to the civilizations of Greece and Rome at the heart of Western civilization,
So too will this peninsular nation create the center of Asia.
This country is not the end of the Eurasian continent but the beginning of the Pacific Ocean, a bridge between continents and oceans, the heart of Asia, the gateway to Northeast Asia, and a nation that will share dreams and friendships with people all over the world.

고대로부터 이 땅을 지키기 위해 기꺼이 목숨까지 바쳐 싸우신 수많은 호국영령들
우리도 한번 잘살아보자며 인종차별도 감수하면서 이역만리 타국에 나가 광부, 간호사, 건설사업 몸바치신 수많은 우리 조부모님, 증조부모님들
이 분들의 희생이 있었기에, 우리가 지금 선진국 막차라도 탈 수 있었던 거겠지요.
한강의 기적? 기적 같은 건 없습니다. 피와 땀과 지혜와 노력으로 이루어낸 성과일 뿐.

Oh, what happened to the previous upload of this video? It disappeared! I posted a comment on that upload regarding metal type printing that I thought would leave people a little better informed. I'll try to recreate it here as best I can.
I love Korea! It's currently my home. It's very impressive that Korea invented a form of movable metal type printing before anyone else! That said, the video is a little misleading. The older version of this video used the phrase "a millenium ago," and I noticed this video no longer includes that phrase. That's an improvement! I also mentioned in my comment on the earlier video that the earliest recorded use of metal type printing I could find was the Sangjeong Gogeum Yemun, which was completed in 1250. The video should probably mention that, otherwise they might be confused and think it was the Jikji in 1377, which is only 60-70 years before Gutenberg, not centuries. If we reckon from 1250 though we can appropriately say centuries.
The video also states that Korea's metal type printing revolutionized the spread of knowledge. I'm very curious about which ways it affected the spread of knowledge. It should be noted that there's no evidence that Gutenberg was influenced by Korea's metal type printing. Korea's printing worked very differently than the printing press that Gutenberg would later create, and the variations of the printing press that would follow.
Again, though, it's an amazing achievement, and just one of the many things Korea can be proud of!
Also, one more thing! At 2:16 the video states:

has brought forth unparalled "innovation"
-Please don't use quotation marks here! It makes it sound sarcastic, as if you are saying that Korea's traditions aren't real traditions, and Korea's innovations are not real innovations. I know that wasn't your intention! I understand English can be difficult, and as I learner of Korean I empathize.
