If you can afford this phone by all means go for it. But if you're like me and damage your phone every 2nd month, you definitely shouldn't get these just yet. They are still extremely cool, but it's still very early.

Itâs a joke about the phone duribility
watched this video on my Fold3. The only reason i felt like getting a folding phone was a good idea was because ive been hyped for folding displays for years, and because i have a history of being really gentle with my phones in the past. if you have a history of dropping phones, cracked glass and whatnot, a folding phone is a terrible idea for you. but being able to carry around a small folding tablet in your pocket is probably the most cyberpunk thing you can do.
Folds definitely a lot cooler. Iâm looking at this from a repair perspective, breaking this phone is an extremely expensive mistake
My kid wants it as his first smartphone
Do you think it's a good idea?
@@falcy2889 how old is he i will suggest if you are of this budget then go with s22. Since it will give 4 yrs. of Android update + 5 yrs. Security patches. So yeah this is my suggestion đ.
@OM until his kid tries to root the android
âa history of being gentleâ sounds really awkward
It is so cool that phone has no part that sterilize to another part, you can transfer motherboard from one phone to another , without dealing with face ID, screen, battery, camera and other annoing error messages like in IPHONE
Serialise?
Yes, serialized parts and wholly anti consumer. they say its for "sAfEtY and SeCuRiTy" but theres nothing backing that up
@@Carterthielftw_ facts
@@Mong_Man yes, each part is serialized with the own motherboard in apple... If you change the battery, you have to re-programm it and change some battery parts...

@@PhoneRepairGuru happy to hear that im always tuned in
As a repair technician, I approve of this video! Thank you for taking the time and showing us how to repair these phones. Personally, I think Samsung made these simply to show how ahead of the curb they are. I donât see these lasting more than a year or two.
Who makes a phone that last more than a year ????....
@@Ankityadav-670 Samsung
Can you repair my phone for me?
The first version was a piece of sh*t! My screen broke within a month and they refuse to fix it!!
My second version has been amazing! I've had it 6 months and it is still perfect!
Heck if you could replace the broken screen I could sell it and make back my money!
@@Ankityadav-670 IPhone 4âŠ.I want an IPhone 4!!! Still have my IPhone 4.
To be honest z flip 3 and z fold 3 are more durable than previous generations of foldables
Foldables are too cutting edge for what they're worth right now. Unless if display tech evolves to the point that resilient, self-healing OLEDs are a thing, I'd pass on this for now.
Had my z flip 3 5g for 6 months has been in contact with sand and submerged in water and has no screen or damage at all. Not a single scratch
@@thecrwster What about the screen flex?
Theyâre pretty cool but definitely not for your average consumer. You have to take care of these phones, and with parts costing $700+ tax and labour, itâs quite the gamble. Of course samsung does offer a discounted replacement for your first repair.
@@blakegriplingph what do you mean flex? Obviously the screen is flexible
It's not as much the OLED, it's the material used for the screen. Right now it's plastic because, well what else is bendable and transparent? And as we can see, a tiny layer of glass under the plastic really isn't enough to change anything, in fact it might have just made the issue worse as now it can crack.
Only special meta materials can really solve these issues, but meta materials require atom bases precision to produce so don't expect it for decades to really take off.
Foldable phones are cool but they aren't perfected yet, a lot to improve on
actually, this is the z flip 1. the newest phone of this lineup is the z flip 3 which has much mhch better durability and a larger secondary screen.
This phone is a couple years old. The new ones are a massive improvement.
@@smasheduptoaster9186 while there are improvements I still dont think they are perfected

Was really really interesting to watch this video, always love when you repair other phones, really love watching when you repair iPhones because as Iâm watching those videos I feel like maybe I too could do it but then when I look at my iPhone, I know that I probably should damn well not be the person tinkering with the insides đŹ. Another great video from U Phone Repair Guru !!!!! đ
Lots of love and support from Winnipeg,Manitoba,Canada
(PS; I have a couple devices that I need repaired lol an iPad 7th gen, and an iPhone 7) đ đ
If you want to try repairing one of your devices yourself, definitely do not go with the iPad. iPads are extremely difficult to repair if you don't have a good idea of what you are doing. Older iPhones, like the 7, are much more forgiving.
@@linuxsbc with the iPad you donât need to worry about water resistance though
@@Ben.N True, but strong adhesive is still required to hold the screen in place.
I have this same model and it came with a 2 year samsung care +
Last year I splashed by accident a ton of water on it and got soaked, it stopped working properly (screen would do weird things) and they repaired it
That said it didnt cost me 2k
I like the phone but I do know that a lot of people have no idea how to take care of it and they mess with the screen protector the first month, the screen protector gets air in the middle and they proceed to complain that their screen broke within a week because they were treating it with the same not having care as they did with their old flip phones
With care and knowing how to use it I think is a really cool phone to have and the 2 year samsung care + makes up for how expensive it is to get it repaired
Have a Flip3 and did a very light drop. After that, the area where the fold is turned into a black blotch. It has a case and protective films. This phone is VERY fragile and the repair costs are crazy. Asked for a quotes from different places: $400+ - $600. Might as well buy a new phone. The phone is 4 months old.
i bought my z flip 4 as a treat to myself, 6 months later 1 small drop (after 3 other small drops) the hinge was hit and my top screen doesnt work and dead pixels becoming larger only on the top screen, I am having a hard time finding someone to fix it EVEN WITH MY WARRENTY because it wont open flat...turns out that not opening flat after a hinge breaking is common and I dont want to make it a loss so im debating paying for a third party repair
I bought one of those open box from best buy for pretty cheap and loved it, ended up trading It in for the newer version for as much as I paid at best buy for it, the newer version is much more durable, the screen is harder so it actually feels like glass and not like a crappy screen protector

Thank you for being on point with your phone repair skills. SO MANY shops fail at basic understanding of tool use. Plastic cards... Invaluable
I had the Z fold 2 and Z fold 3 when they came out, I loved them both, after using my z fold 2 for 1 year, I have zero scratches. So far on the z fold 3 too, only problem is the battery that really doesn't last.. I recommend it if you change your phone every year, with the resale of the old phone + Promo code you generally lose less than 20% of its initial value. Btw nice video
Bro thatâs my biggest issue with android as a whole is the battery otherwise itâs definitely better than iPhone the iPhone just does better with battery but then with iPhone you canât emulate certain systems like 3ds

I will soon! This was just the one that I got sent. I'm sure they've made great improvements but I personally would probably break this within a few months. Samsung does offer a discounted screen replacement for the first repair but after that you're screwed. All I'm saying is its still a little too early.
@@PhoneRepairGuru they are very durable. I have dropped it many times and never broken it. Not sure how you think you would break it in a month
@@smasheduptoaster9186 the only thing that can break in this phone is the back glass while the front screen is made of plastic so the chances of the screen breaking are very low

I have the z flip 3. I feel it's the first foldable that is worth it. Have had it for 6 months now with no issues so far. Aldo am not been a android user for long ether. My daily driver before this was an iPhone 11. It amazes me at how far android has come since the early days.
Bot.
When you were booting it up and it wasn't powering on I was nervous đ
This was awesome! Although I use Samsung as a daily driver.. it sucks that buying a 2nd Z Flip to repair the Z Flip was the cheapest option đ
BTW.. I don't see the point in a phone that flips open. But it's a sweet concept. Awesome video!!! Loved it
The concept is because itâs âcoolâ Iâm not sure how old you are but back in the what late 90âs early 2000âs when you first saw flip phones, you were cool if you had one. (Unless you had a Nokia at which point people feared your power) I remember the Razor having the button on the side to flip it and it was just really cool at the time.
That's the first flip. It's expensive because it was the first one and it was pretty niche. There aren't very many parts available for them
@@smasheduptoaster9186 interesting- still not a fan of the technology at this point
@@mike64411 interesting take- I catch your drift. With the price tag I do not feel like trying the technology for the price. I've always been on a Galaxy Note since the 8. Will probably switch to iPhone- cost of OEM Android parts are going insane. Too expensive to repair

This is the Z Flip 2 the 3 is much more durable I personally have the Z Fold 3 and I am loving it, my screen hasn't had any issues and I have dropped this phone alot. You're funny. I like how you elaborate things. Thanks.
K I liked the flip part only, so like you said imma wait till these kinda phones are more popular and less expensive
$999 isn't too much for a phone with flagship specs. And the latest generation is getting popular. The one is the video is first generation.
I never cared much for foldable phones except for their gimmick value.
This video taught me what blacklisted phones are (actually never heard of them before),
how I can open my S20 Ultra (never buy a flagship, it's not worth it. This one is my first and last),
and how a Z Flip looks from the inside, aswell as teaching me about problems in its design in more detail than most other CZcamsrs.
Great video! Thank you for the educational content!
buying flagships is worth it, just not right after launch. according to some statistics (can't link them, don't know where i learned about it), an average Android flagship gets 20% cheaper after the first year of being on the market. combine that with how samsung gives you 4 years of android updates and 5 years of security updates, and you're good to go.
This channel is so addictive, especially the shorts
Bot
I've had my Fold 2 since launch with no screen protector and it's still perfect. Just pre-ordered the Flip 4.
I have a z flip3 and it's great, alot of people don't get that having a huge screen in a tiny pocket is very very useful
Right? Foldables just make sense. Can't wait to see how it improves in the future
@@ethanol1586 the best thing is that everyone criticised Samsung for making foldable but now that they've seen that foldable are actually useful, every other phone company is trying to make their own foldable.
So your telling me you just bought a $2k phone just to have worries get broken
@@jusalii is just as durable as non foldable devices
@@jusalii I don't worry tho, say tomorrow it breaks due to it folding, samsung will fix it and I have multiple backup phones as I don't trade old phones in
opening and closing the flip like hundreds of times a day (not realistic) would still mean you could use it for like 10 years. The durability has gotten good enough in the recent versions and it even costs the same as a new iPhone (1000 USD) so there's really no reason to avoid the flip if you already used to buy new iPhones unless you're broke or something

Personally, I don't have any issues with the durability. I have the Z flip 3 since the release. I don't have a single scratch on my phone. Samsung really upgraded the durability of the foldables. The only problem is still the price of the z fold 3.
But that's my experience. Maybe because I don't treat my phone like shit.
But still good video.
Your voice is really nice to listen to. Also, and hopefully more relevant, that is a weirdly cool phone and I would never want it because it makes no sense.

Unless apple makes on, it will be my main phone (ecosystem)
Apple is definitely testing this but unlike other manufacturers they wonât share these fazes of production with us. As a tech nerd that hurts me, but I see why they do it with their reputation of beauty
At least it's free to watch an expensive phone get destroyed like $hit and get repaired by an expensive repair.

I love the fold itâs such an easy phone to fix Iâd rather fix folds all day than normal S and NOTESđ
You ever tried your hand at replacing that screen?
No way. I could with confidence do a screen or battery swap on my new S22 Ultra. And I say this as someone who's never owned a current flagship until now. Sourcing parts for the Flip, that screen, no way.
It sucks. I actually seriously considered the Z Fold as someone who's been waiting for a chance to jump into the foldable world for a decade, and the idea of the Flip fascinated my stepdad so much that he was extremely close to switching from his iPhone, never having owned an Android in his life.
When repairs become simple, I'm jumping in on it. I suspect he might too, once durability lets you use these for multiple years.

I totally agree, it was time for someone to say it, foldables are not worth the price
Foldables have the same lifespan as any other phone. There's a construction youtuber that's been using the original fold since release with no issue lol. Love how people drop their phones or jam their thumbs into the displays expecting stuff not to take a hit.
month 8 with my razr, not a scratch
Not true lol.foldable glass is very limited lifespan itâs not at all comparable to other screen tech.
@@zethloveless7238 luckily, very few phones use foldable glass. Motorola, Huawei, some of Samsung, Xiaomi and others use plastic which is never gonna crack.
Even then, 90% of foldable glass cracks are the user's fault.
