I have everyone of the Hidden side sets, cost me a fair bit to get a couple of them second hand BNIB. I've always wondered if the train could be motorized, thanks for answering that question. Had a bit of a giggle when you laughed in joy at it working. 😄 You might need to secure the Tank to the carriage somehow to stop it falling off. It also looked like the turret moved a bit sideways, which may have been what hit something causing it to fall off and take the poor troop with it.
I discovered hidden side a couple of years too late. it’s a shame it didn’t get more waves, I really like the aesthetic of the sets. I only have the Ghost strain Express so far (I got it used for 350 NOK I believe!), but I wish to get the shrimp shack, the shrimp boat, the lighthouse and the prison eventually. The main character minifigures are too colorful for my liking (my city has a bit of a 1940’s/50’s aesthetic), but the train conductors fit right in.

I still have mine together. Wanted to get the school bus and fire truck, but never did.
