So I have a question, maybe someone can help me. We are thinking about getting a cat (or preferably two), just haven’t made up our mind about which breed yet. My dad has a cat so I’m not new to cats, however, she is not an overly active cat and she can go outside whenever she wants to. Our situation: I’m a student in Würzburg but mainly live with my boyfriend in Stuttgart (1 1/2 hour distance). Due to covid I will only have one year that I’ll have to commute (?), afterwards I will go to University in Stuttgart. Now my question - is it possible to travel with cats by train and have them “live” in a different apartment for half of the week? Is it possible to take cats with you on normal activities (such as going to the lake with friend)? Obviously (if that is even possible), the cat needs to be trained very well and the environments need to be cat “friendly” (not too loud or crowded, etc.). I’m asking because I see cats traveling a lot with their humans and going to the store/skiing, etc. and thought maybe that’s possible with very well trained cats (and the right breed/character). It would make it easier to not leave the cat(s) alone at home and give them a way to let out their energy... But maybe these cats that do everything with the owner are just “wonders” and cats usually only go on nice walks, does anyone know more about it than me? Plus, if it actually is possible to take the cat with me to Würzburg, I don’t know if it is way more difficult to travel with two cats. Because we do want two so that they have company, but I imagine traveling with two to be very difficult.
I would not recommend traveling with two cats, it’s double the training and a lot of work! Breed is not as important as personality- you need a confident cat and need to do a lot of training. We spent 3 months working on training nearly every day to get Suki comfortable with lots of different situations. Just make sure that you have the time and energy to do this before committing to the idea of having a cat that enjoys travel :)
