    Oliver Sacks seemed like such a genuinely kind, warm, gracious man. It's a shame I never got to meet him but I'll always have his wonderful books.

    Fascinating documentary. Another fine demonstration of the mystifying aspects of the neurological system and the mind. Many thanks for sharing.

    Derek has blown my mind away !! such a miracle human-being exists !! wow
    the documentary is not explaining in very deep details (while it seems too old documented) and in general worth watching :/

    Derek should be exposed to as many genres as possible. He is a musical genius and learning other genres will give him new challenges and joys and make him an even better musician!

      I think he knows every genre of music there is basically. If you watch his music performances, you will see that the audience can also make him change the genre of his music (like blues, jazz, or even a specific person's style), and he knows all of them.

      puppyanddoglover99 > he knows all of them.
      Knows how to mimic them all. The autistic approach to music is **very** different to someone actually communicating through their music. Just because someone can memorise the whole phonebook, doesn't mean they are good at making phonecalls.

      Agree. There is a huge difference between reproducing what you have heard and actually expressing an artistic vision

    While the original production looks excellent, the audio errors in this upload make it nearly unwatchable.

    "others just don't".... "why are some of us hard-wired to love music"..... lost me.... Music is an unambiguous part of being alive.

    • @FeelingShred

      I think I got it. In my experience, there are two types of people: the ones who listen to a song and picture themselves driving a speeding car on the highway. And there are the people who pay attention to every note, every chord and picture themselves performing that song. The first ones must be the "others just don't"

      FeelingShred "The Ultimate Rule ought to be: 'If it sounds GOOD to you, it's bitchin'; if it sounds BAD to YOU, it's shitty. The more your musical experience, the easier it is to define for yourself what you like and what you don't like. American radio listeners, raised on a diet of shit, have experienced a musical universe so small they cannot begin to know what they like." -- Frank Zappa

      +What I learnt today Not at all. Normally, I get nothing out of listening to music. My mom is the same way. It's just annoying to me. That's why I'm watching this.

    • @fuckchannels5609
      @fuckchannels5609 Před 9 lety

      +Theyungcity23 "My mom is the same way".... i.e cultural.... Without being exposed to music in a healthy normal way you've developed the same "tastes" for "no music, it's loud and annoying". If your mum were an African chances are you'd be dancing around to beats in groups of 5 like everyone else around you. Growing up in a music-less culture where it's nothing more than a product to be purchased by 13yo girls at the gas-station impulse stand, has it's impacts.
