- 🏖 At the southern tip of Crete, one hour drive from Chania, is one of our favorite places in the world. Paleochora, the "Wife of the Libyan"! A small town, endowed by nature that should become your next summer destination.
Wonderful beaches for all tastes.
If you want to find your peace, to calm your soul, to relax then Paleochora is your place. Here you will move around with your flip flops, without make up and second thoughts.
One hour from Paleochora is the famous Elafonissi!
Do you want sand or pebbles, do you want organized or disorganized? In Paleochora you will find everything. In addition to the variety, it offers beaches at each end, as it is located on a peninsula. In fact, for many beaches you do not even need a means of transportation. Inside the city there is the thick sand and the gravel. The first is large with golden sand, organized but also with space to relax freely. At its right end it is also suitable for nudists. You will enjoy a romantic sunset, water sports and golden sand. The second is located on the east side of the city and has thick pebbles. Organized beach with space for independent swimmers.

Paliochora may be a quiet town but it has nice bars to enjoy your drink. One that deserves special mention for its cocktails is "Agios". At a strategic point, in the city offers endless parade. So there you will find yourself drinking with a saint! From classic teased, such as mojito with flavors to bubblegum and spicy mango. You will be impressed by the variety, the flavors but also the service.
If you are a nature lover here you will find your teacher. Endless walking paths, with wonderful routes and vegetation waiting to be discovered. An easy and beautiful route is from Paleochora to the village of Anydrous. You cross the gorge of Anydron and after a slight uphill you reach the village. You will need about an hour. Another interesting path that does not have access by road is from Paliochora to ancient Lissos. The route is in nature, but will need some physical condition as it is 11 km. But ancient Lissos will reward you!
In Crete you will eat! In Paleochora you will eat well. The flavors in this place have something else. Socks with "asshole" cheese, snails, greens and fragrant tomatoes. Everything is perfectly accompanied by raki, or tsikoudia. For more special and teased flavors you will go to the "Cafe at School" in Anydros. The old school of the village was transformed into a beautiful courtyard, in nature with a stealthy sea view. You will taste original salads, appetizers such as dates wrapped in bacon and tart with leeks and plums. You will be satisfied with the traditional smoked, or the pork with tangerine and you will close with chocolate brownies, or cheesecake. Inside the city go for fish in Methexis, crepe and rakomeze in Liri tis Papias and waffles with ice cream in the patisserie Sarakatsani.

Thanks - brought back some memories. I’ve stayed in Paleochora a couple of times, just for a few days each time. I once had a very tasty meal at the Castro restaurant, on the way to the headland (3:45 to 4:15 in the video). Also enjoyed wine in Monika’s Garden (wine bar) in the centre of the village; spent quite a bit of time on the main (sandy) beach; and once walked up to Anidri village, had the best cheesecake in the world in the Old School House coffee shop, was humbled by the beauty of Agios Georgios chapel, walked down Anidri Gorge to Gialiskari beach, and then walked back into Pal from there. An excellent place, but it can take a few days to slow down to Paleochora time.

The beach and the coastline on the other side of the town are really nice, but I miss the mainstreet. It’s always a pleasure to sit there on one of the terraces. In the “hippiestime” that was the place to be. On the corner at Georgios place ! Remember ? 🌸🌺🌼🌻 Flowerpower !
