In this week's episode, the focus is on a meticulously designed office space of Ovon Design, spanning a generous 1,800 square feet in the bustling Balestier Road area. The location was chosen strategically due to its prominence in the realm of renovations and interior design.
Originally a pet grooming salon, the space underwent a comprehensive five-month renovation to embody a modern, minimalistic, and luxurious theme. Nature enthusiasts, the designers seamlessly integrated natural elements into the facade, creating a well-crafted geometry that sets the tone for the entire showroom.
The entrance, both functional and inviting, features bench seats for clients to change shoes, emphasizing practicality. Inside, a series of curve cushion seats and glass apertures create a dynamic, cave-like environment illuminated by natural daylight. Interweaving curve steps further enhance the lively atmosphere.
Transitioning smoothly into the living area, a curve pillar and wall guide visitors seamlessly. The living area boasts a projector setup, housed in a specially designed drawer for practicality. The kitchen area, defined by a white backdrop, frames a striking kitchen island finished with a rusty metallic look, deliberately chosen for its conversation-starting qualities.
Moving beyond aesthetics, the island serves as storage for material samples, emphasizing functionality. The pendant light from Sol Luminaire provides warm, diffuse lighting, anchoring the entire space. Irregular laminated columns, clad in glass, divide the meeting room and open working area while allowing natural light to filter through.
Hybrid engineered wood textures, veneer-finished, define the space between the kitchen and meeting room, complemented by an automated curtain for added privacy. Skylights introduce natural illumination, creating an open, airy ambiance. Lockers are strategically positioned to demarcate areas, minimizing distraction in the open working area and meeting booth.
The meeting booth features a transparent acrylic layer for a levitating effect, while the dressing area exudes luxury with a polished marble table and a pendant light playing with intersections. A marble step connects the different levels seamlessly. The bathroom showcases meticulous design, with a wall-hung WC and micro-cement finished walls.
The result is a thoughtfully designed office space that caters to the needs of the team and attracts working customers. The feedback from the team underscores the success of the design, turning the office into a home-like space for both work and creative inspiration.

Lovely space! I love the idea of leaving the shoes in a cupboard before entering the office. It almost feel like you're entering into someone's home instead of an office. This will never happen here in Canada. People will think you're nuts for leaving your shoes before entering an office...LOL Btw, can you pls share where they got that beautiful big tan leather sofa at the beginning of the video?

Admittedly the 'individual' furniture pieces here are beautiful.
But personally 'minimalism' as a general design concept gives me the opposite "feel' that it is ironically trying to project...'simplicity'. Unfortunately, it always looks quite 'forced' and engineered, and very pronounced in a flat space.
One of the concepts of minimalism is to ensure that everything owned serves its purpose and/or quality over quantity . What can 'clearly' be seen in many minimalism designs is the opposite of the intention.
We see many 'minimalism' designs which include beautiful and 'solely' from an 'aesthetic' point of view ie, low back sofas, low-lined beds, hardwood /straw-backed chairs etc just to name a few, that are clearly form over function...and if we are honest are not long term sustainable in a comfort sense of the word.
And therefore, this minimalist philosophy is thrown out of the window, due to its own contradiction. Has human beings we naturally seek both mentally and psychologically 'comfort' in all terms (including our home environment). This also goes for our natural evolvement and natural expectation of both colour and texture in the world around us.
A recent example of this would be the well known celebrity 'Kim Kardashian's' recent interior design commision of her current home.
This is completely based on the 'minimalism concept'. It is obviously both form over function (and to draw attention to it's minimalist philosophy extremities). So let us see how long this commision and its form over function will last, until Miss K (and others like her) are forced to admit to defeat, and return to a more contemporary function over form.

The germophobe in me is cringing hard at the thought of walking barefoot in a public space. Cool design though. If it works with how they do things and people don't mind open workspaces, it's probably great... for a lot of other workspaces, this is very form over function.... also barefoot...

Thanks for sharing! Open workspaces are an ongoing trend due to the work from home lifestyle many companies have adapted to. It's also a good way to host clients that visit their showroom as everything is always kept neat and tidy!

I wouldn't call this a "public space" cause generally you'll be usually working with the same group of people in a small office space. Of course you'll receive clients once in a while, just as you would receive guests in your home. I'm sure they have office cleaners to clean and mop the floor regularly, so it's not like they are walking barefoot on dirty floors. In any case, being exposed to germs is also key to priming your immune response....LOL
