    Thank you for the video! I would like to share my personal list I ended up with, after some serious GAS:
    1. Fuji 90 f2 seems more versatile to me than 50-56 mm alternatives, because it's not just a portrait lens, but also the cheapest wildlife prime (even though tricky and fun to use since it's a challenge to get close enough to wildlife with 90 mm), a sports lens, and unique street photography lens for some proper compression and abstract vision.
    2. Fuji 18 1.4 was the biggest discovery to me. I thought that this lens would be too wide for street photography, but it turned out that it's an overall better option than 33 1.4, because you have less shallow field of view and have more subjects in focus with the aperture wide open. Also it's easier to compose with this focal length and the images seem more intimate because you get closer to the subjects. You can turn it into 50 mm equivalent with the 1.4 digital teleconverter on the x-t5. The other mind blowing thing is that optically this lens produces better images than 33 1.4, even though the 33 1.4 is a benchmark lens no doubt.
    3. Fuji 33 1.4 it's still absolutely incredible, especially for portrait work and for situations you can't get very close to take pictures. A fantastic lens.
    4. Fuji 150-600. I got bankrupt after getting this lens, but I'm still happy about this purchase. If you can afford it, just go for it. The f8 of the longer end is not an issue, because even f2 won't bring you good pictures of wildlife if you don't have some proper light, and also on 600 mm you would like to close the aperture to f11-16 to keep more than one subject in focus.
    5. Fuji 16-55: I don't like its weight, but it produces some unique images due to some vintage feel in them. Also on the used market you can find this lens cheaper than sigma 18-50 2.8
    6. Fuji 27 2.8, simply the lightest lens in the system. The image quality is more than decent.
    Lens I sold:
    1. Sigma 30 1.4 - I simply didn't like the image quality of this lens. Even though it's not compact.
    2. Sigma 56 1.4 - beautiful small lens with some very nice and sharp image quality. The only reason I sold it was that Fuji 90 2.0 completely replaced this lens for my use.
    3. Fuji 23 2.0 - I think 27 2.8 is a better option simply because it's lighter. The image quality is similar.
    4. Fuji 16 2.8 - it's crazy how 2 mm difference matters that much. There's a feeling with this lens that you take too much of the environment with it. No such thing happens with the 18 1.4. However the 16 2.8 is super light and tiny and I can't complain about the image quality, too.

    But I'm not complaining about my arsenal too much. Have gone with different options so far. Like the new 23mm and 33mm, and the 90mm. Do have the little pocket rocket 18-50mm and it's incredible. If only it had an aperture ring, it would be a 100% perfect zoom!

    Thanks for this review,, its super helpful .How's the auto focus on the viltrox 75? im thinking about that or a used fuji 90m, I need it for figure skating shots aswell as the kids outdoor shots.I'd like to hear your thoughts on autofocus, trust me if I didn't have the fuji 23 id definitely get the viltrox 27,,it seems amazing, my current gear is 23o.g and 35 o.g and 50 f2,, thats my sweet spots ,I may get a used 56 down the road. just the auto focus I find sluggish with kids when i rented it,,so still unsure about that one,

      @Iamtongue thanks I heard that about the 75.I'm sure it's a beauty if you nail focus and more controlled portraits,I'll keep an eye on a used 90. or just rent when it's kids skating completions.most of the time I'm in the 23 and 35 range for documenting my family day to day..I wanted to like the 56 just auto focus with a moving object indoors I found it struggles..maybe fuji will release a 56 lm down the road..hehehehe..thanks again for your feedback.cheers

  • @brownbear100
    @brownbear100 Před 6 měsíci

    Reluctantly decided to part with the 56 1.2 WR. I just felt it wasn't right as a more general purpose 56mm even though I picked it up cheap.
    Same with the 75 1.2. Comaring with the 90 for a while, I rediscovered the magic of the 90mm f2! Its the better lens by a good margin, but 75 is the more useful FL. Not sure that's enough for me to keep it given the size. Might keep the Samyang 75 after all and sell the Viltrox 75. The Samyang has a much brighter T-stop, equivalent to the viktrox at f1.4 wide open.
    I think there's been a trend of lenses with one unique, compelling characteristic or specification of late that also is fundamentally flawed in other ways making them hard to love: 27 1.2 (huge, AF iffy), 30 2.8 (iffy for macro), 56 1.2 WR (poor AF, very large, hood reversed cant change the aperture manually), 75 1.8 (so-so bokeh), 75 1.2 (enormous, flare monster, iffy AF), 150-600 (slow).
    Really miss the reasonably sized more well-balanced lenses with character that didn't need to compete for social media attention as a one-spec-pony.

    Wow, this is SUPER helpful. At the very end, you mention the Fuji XF 33 1.4 WR and the Fuji XF 23 1.4 WR. I own the XF 33 and absolutely love it, so I'll be hanging onto it. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on how the 2021 Fuji XF 23 1.4 WR compares to the Viltrox 27mm 1.2 in terms of IQ and AF-C tracking performance.
    Also, in your earlier ranking video (also super helpful), you were a bit on the fence (between A & S) with the 2022 Fuji XF 56 1.2. Having spent more time with the lens now, has it risen to the S category for you? If so, why?
    Thank you so much for all your useful perspectives. I'm a beginner to Fuji (have an X-T5), and just trying to figure out my lens arsenal, so videos like yours are really helpful to me.

    • @JasonMoody
      @JasonMoody Před 6 měsíci +1

      I have both and they are both great. I personally like the Viltrox 27 1.2 look better because of the focus length and the bokeh. But the weight and size is a big difference between the two. You definitely feel the Viltrox.

    • @Iamtongue
      @Iamtongue  Před 6 měsíci +1

      i like the xf33mm

    • @brownbear100
      @brownbear100 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@JasonMoody that's why I'm struggling to sell either the 23 or 33 since I got the 27.
      The 27 doesn't exactly sit in the middle and replace both like you might expect. The 23 rendering can be quite nervous unless you are up close, the 27 bokeh is much better. But the 23 is smaller, better AF, close focussing, great for video - all very useful. And while the 27 has great bokeh, it can be nervous, flare is an issue and you can't turn off the swirly bokeh. The 33 is boringly predictable and uniform, but has shallower depth of field.
      I wish Fuji could combine the best of the 23 and 33 into one 27 1.4. The 27 1.2 isn't that lens. It's its own thing, making selling either of the Fuji's nearly impossible! I am finding I reach for it more than either, though.

    So now would be nice to pick some X mount lens for Xmas!
    Was hunting for Viltrox 13mm f1.4 but on the other hand 75mm f1.2 is also on my list and it's tempting. And now Tung recommends Viltrox 27 f1.2... Having VIltrox trio would be amazing but... choices, choices 😂 For versatile work 70% video 30% photo probably wider options are more reasonable.
    For someone on extreme tiny budget who wants make a Christmas gift for itself or someone else I recommend my cheapest lens - TTartisan 35mm f1.4. It's a bit soft wide open but still does decent job (for video this sharpness is not problem at all) I'd say its the same level or sharper than some twice more expensive lenses. And manual focus on it it's pleasing. It cost me less than my ND filter, around 60 euros. I'm not saying it's amazing but price/quality ratio top 3 IMO.
    The funny fact it's my fastest lens and the cheapest at the same time.

    That Sigma 18-50mm has been tempting me with its macro-like capabilities on the wide end. 👀
    My favorite lens this year has been Fuji's 30mm macro. 😁 It's so small and cute compared to my other lenses, that I don't feel like I'm compensating for anything when I'm out in public. 🥲
