I also just have to say you were so helpful to me on your other channel when I was a new SAHM. I remember finding your channel when I was looking for one income living tips. It’s so funny to find this channel at a time in my life when I’m looking for something again.
Attempting to homeschool dual or trilingual this year since my child started Dual language (Spanish/English) since Kindergarten...curriculum hunting since April/May until she finished 1st grade in PS...I did purchase curriculum thru Timberdoodle (Religious kit) and some Spanish resources from Rainbow Resource. Planning to subscribe to Homeschool Spanish Academy in the Fall, I will have to try the free class 1st to see how it looks like.
i am using Masterbooks and The Good and The Beautiful curriculum for my 2 kids. This was my first year homeschooling and wow, what a year! It is definitely a learning experience for everyone.
We also started with Classical Conversations and we stopped after one month. It was NOT a good fit, and it felt like it wasn't covering everything we needed. We switched over to The Good and The Beautiful, and it was our Goldilocks curriculum once we started it. It was so hard to walk away from the CC investment, but I probably would have stopped homeschooling altogether if we had continued. I also lean more Charlotte Mason.
Yes, I feel like the only reason we would have kept going the second half is because of the investment, but that didn’t feel right to continue doing something that wasn’t adding a ton of value for us when we could be investing our time elsewhere that could be more beneficial for our family.
At your stage....enjoy these early years...up until 7th there’s so much flexibility...lapbooks,unit studies, follow their interest....read to them...and don’t ever buy all in one curriculum (our opinion), if it doesn’t work...it’s a pain
I'm a first year homeschooling mom too. My son is wrapping up kindergarten. We used some masterbooks but some worked and some didn't....I love All About Reading and can't wait to get All About Spelling...I started my son on explode the code for second semester with level 1 and he is loving it and it's even helped with learning spelling earlier than expected for kindergarten. We love it....I have to check out that writing book.....I'd love to see how you use the First Language Lessons for the well trained mind.
I’ve heard great things about All About Reading! I’m sure you’ll love All About Spelling too! Explode the Code is so awesome! I understand why I heard so many people rave about it previously. It’s so simple, but it just clicks well with my daughter.
Great video. This year was our first official year homeschooling also. I was drawn to classical conversations too but didn't pull the trigger on it as I was trying to ease into our homeschool experience. We did Master Books, Notgrass, Dash into learning, TGTB handwriting social studies core skills from Harcourt. Living books has always been apart of our life but truly appreciate it now.
Yes to living books! I didn’t know we were already using them until I started homeschooling, haha! Just didn’t know the idea had a name! It’s been great to be more intentional in that focus though. I haven’t heard of Dash into Learning. What did you use it for?
We are using alot of the Flashkids workbooks this year. I have kids in k, 2, 4, and 6th grades. We used them for the older kids when I found them at b& n. We got them for reading, language arts, and writing. My oldest daughter uses the spelling book. Open and go is nice. You seem to have thrown everything at homeschooling this year. I floundered trying to manage 4 kids doing school with a toddler on the side. I have so many things that I would have done differently. For example I loved the morning basket idea, but got rid of it because I couldn't get younger kids to listen. Other things as well. You have the heart of a teacher and it is very apparent in your voice.
Thank you! ♥️ This year was full of extending grace to both myself and my kids as we navigated new waters. I definitely feel like homeschooling awakened a passion I didn’t know I had though! I’m so glad you found some curriculum that works well for your family. Finding things that mesh well for how your homeschool functions is so vital. I applaud you for committing to schooling at home with a toddler! I know that carries a whole different set of challenges as far as juggling all the responsibilities. I marvel at parents who are able to homeschool successfully with multiple children. This year probably would have looked a lot different for us if I had more than two!
Welcome to homeschooling!! We’ve been doing it for 3 years now and I had no idea this would be our path but we love it! We try to lean towards Charlotte Mason. I’ve been reading some of her books for the last year and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them. We’ve tried a few different curriculums over the last few years and our favorite is The Good and the Beautiful. We also enjoy Explode the Code. We also homeschool year round. We do six weeks on one week off and school Monday-Thursday. Good luck with your channel and I look forward to hearing about different resources and curriculum choices.
Yay! A new subscriber here! Always excited to find a new home school mama to glean from! ❤ It looks like you had a great first year! I look forward to your future videos.😃
I’m excited to be on the same journey, just a year behind! My oldest will be in st grade next school year when we begin and my 3.5 year old will technically be in her first year of preschool. My youngest will have just turned one so that should be fun 🤣🤣🤣. We have a very similar approach. My curriculum just came and I’m so excited!!!!
I love to mix different methods. Between online, books and videos as well as hands on. Homeschooling just gives you a chance to truly shape your child. I love the fact that we can introduce th entrepreneurial mind to our child.
Yes, it’s so great to pick and choose and use things you like best, as well as introduce subjects and ideas they probably wouldn’t explore in public school.
All about reading is also amazing! We use both all about reading and all about spelling. We also love Blossom and Root for science. Check it out! As far as handwriting goes, most OTs use Handwriting without tears. For kids who really need the help it's awesome. I think that's why schools use it.
Just found your channel! Great video! We are also eclectic leaning toward CM and unschooling. I LOVE All About Spelling, it’s been a great fit for us this year.
Welcome!! I just created this channel and am so excited to dive into the homeschool community! It’s great to find other people who approach education the same way. I’m so glad we started All About Spelling!
I am so happy I came across your channel. Finishing up my first year homeschooling as well. We started with MB for K, 3rd, and 7th. The K level is what I got my daughter and she went through that so quickly. My 3rd grader got 3/4 of his done before he started to tell me it’s not challenging him. My 7th grader is doing great in his books with the exception of Math. So I am definitely looking to change things up for this coming year.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I MISS THE READING with my girls. They're older now and, though we still love reading, I have a toddler now and it makes it really hard. I'm so glad I got all the moments I had (and still find the for). It's such a sweet time.
Thank you so much! This was really helpful! My daughter is 3. I never heard of Explode the Code. I just ordered a bunch of those just from watching your video! Thank You! Also, the scissor skills. Those look great! We have some scissor skills books, but they are just for cutting. I hadn't seen the ones where she can color first and then cut, so I think I will go order those as well! Thank You!!!
You’re so welcome!! I’m so glad this video was helpful! Watching other people’s videos has been SO helpful for me, so my hope is that I can be helpful and encouraging to others!

We love Master Books as a company but workbook style wasn't for us. I've loved Charlotte's methods for years and finally decided to just go all in this fall with Simply Charlotte Mason and Ambleside Online :)
Love it all! We’ve used master books for math and the good and the beautiful for language arts and have enjoyed both. Would be curious your thoughts on CC and how you expanded on the history with picture books as you think about dedicated videos. I’m planning to join a community in the fall but wasn’t able to this year for kindergarten due to covid. Really hopeful but I love seeing how you’ve approached everything with an open mind! Flexibility is not my strong suit so I think that would be really challenging for me!
Yes, yay for homeschooling! I’m so glad I found out about Charlotte Mason because so much of her education ideology resonates with our family even if we don’t commit to it 100%.

I feel like Melanie’s comment is a very helpful one! I have friend who doesn’t feel like it was a great fit for her family and also leans more Charlotte Mason who just treats CC as a supplement and doesn’t spend a whole lot of school time on it, but, to me, it’s hard to justify the time commitment in our schedules every week (as well as the cost if we had continued) for something supplemental. Loved hearing your experiences from your first year! Explode the Code is definitely a classic that kids often really do enjoy! I love that you've learned not to invest time in your homeschool into the things that weren't a good fit for your family.
I only wish we would have started Explode the Code sooner! I’m usually a “stick it out to the end” type of person, so being flexible and adaptable definitely exercised some things for me!

I love thrifting🙂 Its addicting!
So fun! 🙌🏻
