Going back to college has lead to my rediscovery of ambient and minimal music. This man has done so much for the genre.
I went back and listened to his original self titled debut and there's actually two tracks that are different on that and this one.

This is actually a 2008 compilation of Wolfgang Voigts' first four albums under the moniker GAS in a box with 4 CDs from Mille Plateaux called 'Nah und Fern' ("Near and Far");
1.) GAS (1996) - Untitled 1-6
2.) ZAUBERBERG (1997) - Untitled 1-7 (1:08:36)
3.) KÖNIGSFORST (1998) Untitled 1-6 (2:17:36)
4.) POP (2000) - Untitled 1-7 (3:22:35)
"The 4xCD release features the albums Gas, Zauberberg, Königsforst and Pop in remastered forms. Several tracks have been altered: Gas 1 & 3 have been replaced with new pieces, while Gas 4 is heavily remixed; Zauberberg 6 appears in extended form here as well."
In 1998, he was one of three to form the music label Kompakt (based in a record store in Köln/Cologne), and after these 4 albums and 2 12" EPs in 1995 ('Modern', his debut) and 1999 ('Oktember'), he didn't release anything as GAS until 'Narkopop' in 2017, followed by 'Rausch' (2018) and 'Der lange Marsch' (2021), all on Kompakt. In 2020, he also released a one track single (download only), 'Zeit'. Since 1998, he has also released lots of albums and EPs with "ambient techno" (ain't it all...?!?) under his real name.🤔

i discovered gas somewhere between 2012 and 2014.. cant remember how. But I have now officially had a major phase (repetitive listens for months on end) with each of their major releases - barring the original ST. It went Zauderburg, Konigforst, Pop, and finally.. Narcopop. I think there is a sixth that i am forgetting, and that i have listened to as well, but yeah.. Progressive Rock ftw, folks. This guys music is otherworldly and sublime.

I remember a time in 2011 where I had completely lost my satisfaction over and for music, even when it had given me so much over the years. Then I found the Gas project...never again. Life-saving, these sounds.
ᛈᚨᚾᛏᚢᚱᛚᛖ ᛒᚨᛚᛞᚱ Rock is completely different. Analogue music made with real Instruments. This is all electronic and sampling. Much better than anything you could make with a real instrument too
