Maharashtra's Beed is all set to go to polls on 13th May. Situated in the drought-prone Marathwada region, Beed is notoriously known for child marriages. Girls as young as 14 are married - despite the law banning the same. Activists say this has never become an election issue. Victims, meanwhile, have to pay a heavy price.

One can understand if girl marriage age is increased to 19 years but who is going to motivate them to pursue education even if its vocational. Is there counseling at the village level schools? And they r assured of jobs.
