I hate so much that you didn't end it with "not on me watch, matey!"
Y'aaargh. 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
You're doing it the right way. 👍
There really should be some kind of legal precedent that allows for piracy when the companies that own these games literally do not provide ANY path to legally obtain/purchase these games for a reasonable price. How can a company get frustrated when they are literally the ones who could change this situation at any time? Ugh
100% agree and that could make for an interesting topic for another video
@@RenniUltraFox DO IT.
I think they should do a event where they reproduce the games at their original price point then sell them as part of a ambasador program
Generally that's what a abandonwere is, games and softwares that can't be purchased by no means, but having a more substantial precedent would do wonders, by me if the owner of a game franchise don't give access and use the game in any way for years, it should enter the public domain.
I think this could all be fixed if game companies came to terms with the fact that they are making software and would just release their own emulators on pc and consoles and would just sell roms
I'm begging for the market bubble to burst... please I just want to own Pokemon HGSS without selling my kidneys.
I feel you man I wanted to buy a copy of pokemon emerald but no way on gods green earth I am forking $230+ for it. I also find bs is that many resellers are saying that it's hard to find nowadays. It never was difficult since they sell millions and they use that excuse to jack up the price. Hopefully the bubble pops and investors("gamers") loose money in their collection
Just buy a flash cart/use an emulator etc. - it's not like a penny of that $230 is going to the original developers, you're just enriching a hideously bloated retro market.
@yellowblanka6058 At this point yea lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@antdue1018 Yeah, I really don't understand people getting on a moral high horse about using original copies, not a penny of which is going to the original developers making the purchase ethically no different from just downloading a ROM. If publishers aren't going to offer these games in a modern digital form, and the demand is there, people are going to download them.
@yellowblanka6058 I understand where your coming from though. It's really easy to emulate retro games nowadays heck I even do it as well on my original consoles but maybe it's the fact that it feels good having a physical copy in your collection to play it like when it was new. I played retro games in 2017 when it was affordable since it was for people that don't have enough money for the new gen consoles and their games.

and people always ask why they pirate their games rather than just going to the store and paying big moolah for a copy of some game nobody's heard of
Personally, it’s about going to the right local ones for physical games. Always check for any reviews online before going to any physical stores. Having a physical copy is more gratifying than just having it solely on a computer.
Shit man, most of these old games and third party sellers sell at rates thats most of my salary
"supply and demand" - the guy who has had 17 copies of luigi's mansion rotting on his shelf for 7 years with 350 dollar price tags,
After watching this I just remembered how Nintendo actually has a section on their website on how to purchase a game they don't sell anymore and I kid you not they said to look for a reseller.
Fantastic video Renni, maybe you should open up a retro game shop, id trust you!
Thanks buddy :)💙
Not surprised they tell people to go get scammed.
i remember getting metroid prime and kirby air ride at 2nd and charles for like DIRT CHEAP by accident when the prices said like “$45” and “$80” and then they rung up for like $12-15 when i got them, i swear i felt like the luckiest mf when that happened, TWICE for that matter
Back in my day (I'm in my early 30s) Rhinos (then turned gamestop) would have metroid prime 1 for 3.99 all day everyday, mario sunshine for 12.99, Windwaker for 14.99, etc.
i remember paying 80 bucks for fire emblem was outrageous at the time. it was a hard game to find even back then.
Luckiest thing for me was a Play N Trade 20 miles from where I live, they had 2 games in their store not in their database. One was Wolverine Adamantium Rage for Genesis, the other, ooh, just some game named Mega Turrican, also for the Genesis. The guy in the store offered them to me for free, Wolverine stayed there, Mega Turrican came home. Over a decade later, Mega Turrican is super expensive for the Genesis. I kind of feel bad that I didn't take Wolverine too, would be another game for the old game collection.
the cost of retro games now is why i burn cds, use optical drive emulators and flashcarts, and install hdds and mods on my retro consoles. that way i was able to experience panzer dragoon saga on original hardware without buying a physical copy for ridiculous anounts. also buying these peripherals made by enthusiasts (like krikzz products, gdemu, etc) is supporting people that do a lot more work than scalp old games

@@90sNath This is the perfect solution, actually. We can still enjoy a game on it's original hardware and not give our hard-earned money to the reselling scumbags.
Not even lying, I bought Mario Kart Double Dash and Smash Bros Brawl for $2 each at some random filthy thrift stores. Still the deal of a lifetime.
Oh, I've gotten several "valuable" games at Goodwill. Deals are out there if you look hard enough
I bought both Animal Crossing: Wild World and Tetris DS for 10€ each at a former 2nd-hand store in Helsinki. Still wild to think of my luck there. (Especially with Tetris DS as that went out of print bit early)
I remember getting the Metal Gear Solid Essential Collection at Goodwill for $2 a few years back. Still yet to finish MGS1 but wouldn’t have tried out Metal Gear otherwise probably.
Luckiest things I got cheap that they decided to try and get rid of for cheap, Duck Tales 2 NES, $30, Chip N Dale 2 NES, $30. But the big one was a PC repair shop that sold retro games, they wanted to stop selling them, and they had a few games left, one of them, a $5 Cowboy Kid NES (worth bank now).

There is no good reason a Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy game on Wii should be sold on Amazon for like $70

@ObnoxiousDoucheAlt I think it has to do with how similar Tail Concerto is to Megaman legends. Also CZcams reviews pointing those Megaman fans at it.
"Retro game buying sucks now" - May as well be the catchphrase of the hobby, it's been far too expensive since the 00s.
I once went to a retro game store a couple towns over from me, and, I kid you not, they were selling a USED copy of mario kart wii for 200. DOLLARS.
Luckily about a month later I went to a random gamestop and they had a copy for like 25 bucks, which was definitely an improvement to say the least.
Mario Kart Wii $200 😂 wtf

My worst hit was Chibi-Robo for GameCube. Had a mostly CIB copy (had all the paperwork other than the manual) that I gave off to a friend for his birthday a few months before we stopped being friends. I can understand the types of games that didn't sell a whole lot of copies from their original releases that would cause them to be so expensive in second-hand markets, but I will never understand how certain games that sold EXTREMELY well in their haydays, millions of copies (to the point where they even get player's choices re-releases) and are super common, suddenly go for the price of a brand new current-gen system? That's just being fricking greedy, especially with Pokemon.
Unless a game is rare or hard to find, no one should be having to spend the amount that is the equivalent to paying rent just so they can experience a game they been wanting to play.
Really enjoyed the video but I think adding some structure or small pauses between topic changes would help make it that much better. It can feel a little rant/rambley at times even while being a certified fan of directionless yapping.

Ironically enough toy collecting is in the same thing, I collect beyblades and stuff from the plastic stuff from the 2000s to like the newest release and lemme tell you, post plague these have been going up to ridiculous prices. Some of the later released metal fury stuff by Hasbro is going for upwards of 200-350 which is insane 😭. That really sucks... even more honestly because you can't emulate a toy.
@@RenniUltraFox yea its a bit hard, especially getting the older stuff. but there is a bright side, people are just saying "screw it if the toy companies arent gonna make it lets do it" so there are dedicated fans who make reproductions of the rarest products to help give those in need for it, we are talking the closest 1:1 repro, which is honestly something i never expected tbh, stuff like the rare stadiums, the older metal stuff from 2005, leave it to the fans when the companies don't do shit. also great vid btw forgot to say that

0:59 I definitely relate to the interest in old games. Like I remember seeing a video of the stuff added in Super Mario Advance 4 with the E-Reader cards and really wanting try the Super Mario Advance series. I eventually did so with the Wii U Virtual Console (RIP). Heck even though it was for the original Game Boy, I got Super Mario Land 2 on my 3DS which my mom questioned my young self on, pointing out the monochrome graphics.
As for the topic at hand, I definitely agree. The most I paid for an old game was Pokemon Black 2 at like… 120 dollars I think.
It would really be nice but unlikely of Nintendo for them to make reproduction carts of their DS and 3DS games to try get into the Retro Games Market.
As of late I've only really gotten games for old systems I have a genuine interest in. Collecting the crazy rare games that cost me the same as a car payment isn't worth it at all. My local retro store has a copy of Devils Third for Wii U in a case behind the counter, whenever I need a quick laugh I look at it.

Oh Cool
Stock prices can artificially inflate more when people are excited about new games (GTA 6 anyone?) so making it difficult/impossible to find old games is part of the game of capitalism. It makes it harder to notice when an older game did what a newer game does, but better or just as well.

good video! As someone who's been collecting retro games on a budget for like 15 years now, the market is so inflated it sucks. It's hard to pinpoint one single issue, but going to Japan recently it puts thing into perspective. I think America has such a toxic opportunist mindset: You are on this planet to make as much money as possible and use every avenue to make that money.
The dude pheonixresale you were clipping in your video's slogan is "opportunity is everywhere". Funny cute way of saying ""markets to take advantage of are everywhere"
When mottos like that are spewed around, it becomes a rat-race. I recently saw a dude and his son having a wonderful family bonding moment at goodwill, sitting their butts on the dirty floor looking up every game in the store on ebay. It's no fun for the average collecting anymore. And part of a resellers job is to make it less fun. They will always be at odds on a fundamental level. A casual collectors bottom line is at odds with a resellers bottom line. Which is fine, its natural. Just sucks to see the resellers winning.
Thank you Dawn! I’m really glad that you found my video. I watched yours while doing research for this one and it was great! Your work was an inspiration for mine, for sure!
And I appreciate the input, I agree with all of that. I don’t mind that people can make some money selling games, but I don’t understand why the amounts have to be so exorbitant.
Not the crossover I was expecting, but glad to see it. Also, grill to grill communication. Grill to grill conversation.
I think Americans are more nostalgic for old games than the Japanese. Also, Japanese houses tend to be smaller, so there’s less room for old consoles & games. CZcams creates a lot of the demand for old games. Some consoles were more successful in Japan than the USA (Sega Saturn, for example) so the games are cheaper.
