In a nutshell: Ironically, he’s criticising people’s lethargic detachment from reality by singing about sleeping and passively avoiding dealing with responsibilities. The song is a wake-up call, hence his disconnecting/freeing the characters from the Big Boss in the background. As soon as he pulls out the tubes, they come to life, while the Big Boss’s HB goes to 0 and the messages on the LED go from THE MIND IS SLEEPING to ENEMY DEFEATED. It’s actually a masterpiece.

I have seen Luke Black perform live and he really is an amazing performer. He was able to piece his songs together into a very immersive narrative and really took us in the audience with him. He was completely ‘all out’ in his performance and kept character for each of his songs perfectly. He’s quickly become one of my favourite artists although his genre is rather niche and not everyone’s cup of tea. I definitely recommend listening to more of his music or even seeing him live if possible!
