  • In this video I'll walk you through the procedures for starting the engine on the Thranda Cessna C208 Caravan for X-Plane 11, both with the battery and with an external GPU power cart.
The built-in checklists make it easy to go through the procedures, and this video should help familiarize you with where each control is, and what to expect during an engine start.
You can find out more information about the Caravan on the X-Plane.Org forums here:

Our aircraft are available at the X-Plane.Org Store here:

Loving these tutorial/informative videos before release. Means we can get her started and off the ground pretty confidently - thanks so much!

Very refreshing to see someone do this properly. Just about everyone else treats the condition lever as a mixture, and have it full forward for start. That would set the engine on fire. Everything here was done the way we do it in real life. The only differences were company SOP, like verify the fuel boost pump in "norm" before full on. Nicely done!

I can confirm from experience that this is not the case. Because of the minimum pressure and dump valve in the FCU, the effect of (lack of) P3 on the fuel valve, and the minimum flow valve.. the engine starts almost normally with the condition lever forward.

Brilliant series of videos. It can be very frustrating when you buy a product which has no or poor documentation or instructions when you want to fly the aircraft properly. Theses videos are so clear and well produced. Many thanks.

Joseph, your videos are incredible!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. It looks like you are a real pilot.

Although I don't do much Part 135 flying, I'm planning to add this aircraft to my hanger, day 1. BTW: I always enjoy your presentations, NoJoe.

Very Nice! Best Caravan for X-Plane. Question: there isn’t a Bus and Starter position in the EXT PWR switch?

Just wondering, can an FO use these videos to prep for a C208 interview? If not, any suggestions that can help, aside from the aircraft manuals.

For sure, yeah! A couple of the FOs at the airline I fly for have used these to help study. Just be aware that there will be some procedural differences in how each airline does things.
And there are a couple things that are specific to this X-Plane simulation of the Caravan that differ slightly from the real Caravan (for example, in the electrical system video the external power switch is only simulated with two positions, but in the real Caravan there are three).
Just make sure to use these videos as a general guide, and follow your specific airline's procedures and details.

There should be a small arrow on the left side of the screen. Click on this and it will bring up the menu, click on the General tab, top left, and then you will see a small button marked "checklist" in the lower right corner. Click on that and the checklist will pop up. Safe flying in probably the best turbo prop aircraft in X-plane.

Is there a way to hide the menu arrow when in flight? I don't like it taking up screen space when not on the ground.

Yep! Just hover your mouse cursor over it and scroll the mouse wheel down to make it transparent.
