I have the BMW R 100 GS - PD 1989...
I had a 93 R100GS/PD and I still kick myself for selling it. I did put over 80K miles total and did more than a few 1000+ mile days. It was a wonderful bike, old school, reliable and could be fixed with a screwdriver and a hammer and some baling wire. No fancy electronics, just simple controls. I did a trip from Mexico for over five hours at 100 mph. The bike loved it and it never ran better.
Bend forward and I'll kick You too!!! ;-) Thanks for sharing, there are still some low mileage 2V GS out there to start new adventures...
Great bike! That was also my dream bike. I'm looking for one in Europe to ride there and send it back to my home(Puerto Rico).

I had one of these for 15 years when i was just 19 years old - now im 53 and bought it again - 5 weeks ago- well - best buy ever - its not just the simple good technik of it - even if some do not agree - but its beautiful the most beautiful bike ever - you can see with one eye what it can give to you - i dont care if the new ones are faster- have better brakes and elektric stuff you dont need.

Congratulations! I just sold mine, don't have the time to ride it and the space to stow it properly. So there will be another happy owner...
September 2019, I bought a 1996 GS PD Classic now just coming up to 10,000 miles. Had 9 new BMW since 1994. This is the best. But maybe my last big bike as at 75, Not sure how long I will be able to move it about. Won't sell it th'o!!

IMHO one of the best things you could do. I bought my GS PD Classic in Summer of 2019 with 165000 km, did a carburettor rebuild, restored the main cable harness and exchanged the clutch parts. This summer now I was lucky to be able to ride to the North Cape during the 6 weeks of open Norwegian borders (from Germany). This was a dream I realized though I'm 61 now. Except for the need to disassemble and re-grease the steering head bearings up there in Norway (my own fault, should have taken more care for it before) there were no issues with the GS. It now has 178000 km on the odometer and still runs like a charm....

@@stefansgarage3014 - glad you have a new project! Is there a good source for buying parts online? I’m in California and so far it’s not been easy to find parts. Oh - the Wibers springs are great, but expensive!!
@@jimmelino3361 I didn’t need many parts and got them at my BMW dealership. Wunderlich has many aftermarket parts as well, should be available in the US as well.
@@stefansgarage3014 - awesome, thank you! Wunderlich USA has parts for the ‘92 GS. I went to the dealership yesterday - their parts department had very little access to ‘92 parts. My project bike needs a lot of work - 82k miles - thanks for the info - really appreciated!

I can kick start mine sometimes, but I have to be up on the bike standing over it, left foot on the starter. Otherwise I can't get the right angle.
If you are going through deep water, watch out for water entering the gearbox through the breather that is connected to the battery earth (where it connects to the frame). It's a bolt with a small hole. I think water can also enter through the speedo-gearbox connection. Always check the gearbox oil if you have been deeper than that level.

I had one, too, in bumblebee black and yellow. One of the most comfortable and pleasant riding bikes I've ever owned.

I've been to the North Cape, and I have an '88 R100GS (Bumblebee) but I haven't been to the North Cape on the Bee. I have fantasized about it though.
I took the GS out for a 500K trip last saturday. It was fun but much more exhausting than on a modern bike-looks like we are getting older...
Sehr geil. Eine aus 8/1990 mit 30t km steht bei uns in der Garage. Die hat mein Vater damals neu gekauft. Ihm gehts aber wie den Vorbesitzern deiner Maschine. Seit Jahren keine Zeit/ oder ehr keine Motivation zum Fahren.
Unbedingt reaktivieren! Vielleicht nicht versenken...
Die Vergaser sind relativ einfach zu reinigen, neues Öl und fertig. Da sie in der Garage steht, sollte Korrosion nicht das Thema sein.

@@stefansgarage3014 Lustig, das du das sagst. Alle Öle, Filter und Zündkerzen sind schon beim lokalen Teileman unseres Vertrauens bestellt.
Vergaser wollten wir eigentlich nicht anpacken, da sie vor zwei Jahren noch wunderbar lief und die Vergaser noch eingestellt und synchronisiert wurden.
@@y4nnickschmitt Dann kippt ein bisschen Liqui Moly Vergaserreiniger in den Tank (oder Schwimmerkammer) und ab die Post. Vorsicht mit zu alten Reifen...
@@stefansgarage3014 Die Reifen sind von vor zwei Jahren. Ist ja nicht so als würde die Maschine seit 20 Jahren nur stehen. Aber der Vergaser Reiniger ist prophylaktisch keine Dumme Idee!

GS Kickstarten? Das Moped muss Bock dazu haben. ZZP, Ventilspiel, Kerzen, Kaltstartklappen, Synchronisation und Vergasereinstellungen müssen passen. Dann 2x Kicken...
Bei meiner R65 als 18-Jähriger war das ein Klacks, muss aber nicht am Motorrad liegen...

Die Technik ist schon super simpel und robust!
Stefan's Garage Ich hab momentan eine R1250GS, R100R Mystik und eine R100GS. Die alte GS macht im Grunde am meisten Spaß. Hatte 1988 die erste GS schon. Wenn man sieht was man an Technik nicht vermisst wenn man mit der alten GS fährt.... nicht desto trotz. Die R1250GS ist schon ein Knaller.
@@wombel1980 Das glaube ich. Die alte Technik ist super, aber modern mit dem Komfort und der Sicherheit, möchte ich nicht missen. Allzeit gute Fahrt mit der "Boxertruppe"

Oh that's a tough one. The whole front wheel including the brake disk? Those parts are getting rare and expensive and shipping to overseas in COVID times as well is very expensive. Servus, viel Erfolg beim besichtigen. Den Einbausatz Griffheizung bekommst du noch ganz normal beim BMW Händler, Nummer hab ich leider nicht.

@@feuerreiteroderso8655 doch, es gibt noch vieles neu, angeblich sind die Kunststoffteile (Kotflügel) langsam knapp, da ist aber noch genug auf eBay Kleinanzeigen
