- How my dad and I removed the front of an old 50gal glass tank and upgraded it with nice glass sliding doors!
The total material cost for this project was around $40, but for varying tank sizes it can cost anywhere from 15-50 dollars.
*Here is the caulk that I used for the handles: www.amazon.com/...
Good luck, and happy cutting silicone!
Into music: “Cute” by Bensound. :)
Instead of using handles which will always fall of. Use strong clear suction cups. It works great !!
You spelt “off” wrong
@@flowerbloom2876 jesus, it's probably a simple typo. Don't be an ass to someone offering friendly advice.
@@pewpewcat7679 chill lmao

@@Darkdemonoflite NGL I kinda hate people like you that have a sad life. Just go to bed or something kid smh...smh
Who else is watching this knowing damn well they not doin all that

This is an amazing video thank you for this! one thing though @ 5:42 PLEASE WEAR A MASK when sanding glass!!!!! Silicosis Is not something to mess with.... a warning for people in the description would be awesome! once again thanks for the awesome vid!!
Very good point, thank you for letting me know. I will put a warning annotation on the video.
+Leila's Zoo Great!.. Your rabbits are very cute and your dad seems like a very nice guy! :D
bruh
7:13
Geez are you stocking up for the great silicone shortage? 😂😂
LMAO
Good video. I might do this for my guy's next cage. I may try hinged doors.
Coffee Sandwich Good luck! It makes for a fun project! But wear gloves when you remove the glass, I just converted another tank last weekend and got 2 cuts working with the glass. Be safe, haha!
What is the piece for the track called?
Love thisss,I hate top opening cages for my beardie
Awesome. Going to do the same. But for future reference , you may use that miter saw you used for a bench to cut the rails. The aluminum won’t hurt that blade
Thank you for this video, just what I needed
Thank you for making this it helped me so much! I’ve been toying with ideas of what to do when I upgrade my leopard geckos tank and not I’m definitely going to do this!
This is an awesome video. Could you tell me roughly how long it took to do this project once you had all of the materials? Including cure time for the silicone? I would love to do this for my boy but he only has the one tank currently.
Great video; where did you buy the quarter inch rail from
This is absolutely adorable. You've inspired me to do this for my two beardies. :) Thank you very much for this video!
Thanks! That's awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
8:49 is where the tutorial/building part ends and the cage setup begins.
...we have the same room, same bed, same dresser cubes and almost the same pets.... 😂💓love ur channel
What size glass would I need for mine? I have a 55 gallon tank.
awesome job
Thanks!
Martin Rowlands ,
Did you put the panes in before replacing the top trim? I assume you had to, but in the video you said you were going to put the trim back on and then insert the panes. ???
It looks great!
look at around 8:30 if u look closely in the reflection you can see her tilting the glass to fit it in so to answer ur question no she did not
Great job 👍🏼Thanks for sharing 😃
Lyric Jacobs Thank you, it's no problem!
Thks for sharing!
Absolutely! Thanks for watching! ;)
Anyone know where I can buy glass doors at? And what size do I need for a 4x2x2?
Any suggestion where i can buy these aluminum channels you used to frame the sliding doors? What part of the hardware store would they be in?
Im wondering about this too... cannot find them anywhere
AHH that's how ya do it! Great video!!!
I didn’t see how you actually inserted both panes? Does one go in the track and the other goes in front of it?
Tried this with my 90 gallon tank...turns out the glass is a lot thicker and doesn't fit in the sliders. I've decided to put half of the glass back in place and the other half will be a hinged door. Measure the thickness of your glass people!!
lol 1 handed caulking is hard! good camera work.
Can you list what all you need in comments please. It went by way too fast. Me and hubby thinking about doing this to out 55 Gallon tank.
TheMranonymous2012
I did.
this is an awesome job :D any ideas on how to add a bottom piece that the sliding glass is on top off; like you're planning on doing a couple inches of dirt?
Thanks! I thought about doing that, I think it would make it easier for using a substrate. You could probably add a metal strip at the bottom of some sort and attach it with silicone... and then maybe the glass could go in front of the strip!
That way it would keep the substrate out of the way of the sliding door's track
That is so helpfull especially my aquarium is kinda similar like that ^^
Thanks
What was the black wedge that you used to get the black trim off?
What kinda glue did u use to put the handles on im using plexiglass
what is that thing he is using as a wedge? anyway know?
what was the black block thing you were hammering with the mallet while getting the top frame off with. I have the same tank and am taking this on too. I've been cutting the silicone for a while now.
Bonventur cfinisher It was actually a tool for installing cork flooring. Odd thing we had lying around, but it worked. Maybe you could find an equivalent at a hardware store.
Yeah, cutting the silicone and removing the top frame took us a good few hours on the first tank we did. It just took time before we developed out strategies. Send me a picture or post a video of your tank when you're done though, I'd love to see how it comes out! :)
+Leila's Zoo I don't know if I should try this because I'm scared I might go poo poo
Hey what are the dimensions on this tank? It looks like one of those really narrow fish aquariums and I thought that they'd be too thin for my beardie. He's 18 inches long last I checked
What is the bottom you used in the aquarium?
Awesome! What's the total time you'd say this project took?
+Mark Mniece Thanks! The first tank we did, I'd probably say 3 hours, maybe 3 and a half! Removing the rim and getting the glass pane out is definitely the most time consuming part!
How did you set up his lights?
tbh yo should have used silicone on all of it. the reason silicone didnt work for you is because you didnt rub it down with rubbing alcohol first. not sure why that works but it does. also helps if you scratch the glass where the handle woulda been and scratched the inside of the handle too would give something for the silicone to grip to
If anyone did this plz tell me how t turned out by I wanna try
Also what lid do you use?
Thanks, i neeed a custom length tank for mai gargoyle gecko due to small space, lota help
Can you tell me the name of all that stuff
Really the only specific item that I SPECIFICALLY recommend is the caulk, which there is a link to in the description. Everything else is going to vary depending on where you buy it and what type of tank you have.
great diy but how does the glass sit in the top frame? do i need a specific glass thickness?
That's the same question I had to ask
5:33 in video say 2.55 mm glass
Instead of using silicone would it be possible use hot glue?
No! Hot glue will NOT hold. It's also not moisture-proof, which it kind of needs to be when making a reptile tank. The silicone needs to be aquarium-grade, so none of those "mold-resistant" ones (they release toxic fumes which are very poisonous to reptiles).
@@nostrobothnia Thanks! I already assembled the tank and used aquarium grade silicone!
@@maxmakesit8157 good to hear! 😊
Wait? So can he go anywhere he wants to in the house?
Haha, no. I just open his cage when I'm in my room with the door shut. I was kind of planning on letting him roam my bedroom, but he never really wanted to. I guess he likes his cage which is a good thing. :)
Your supposed to wait 24 hours for the glue to dry it can cause harm to the animals
More than that actually. I'd air it a few days to play it safe really
No one answers back on this tube
Where is the sand?
Lord_Paul Lol I don't use sand. It can be dangerous for bearded dragons because it can get in their orifices and some may even eat it and that can't be good.
ohh ok
Lord_Paul i use play sand depends on what you are keeping i keep saharans and ornate uromastyx
leilanihagen someone better tell all the wild bearded dragons to stop living on sand and loose substrate then. Let’s notify the government of Australia so they can remove all the dangerous natural substrate and put kitchen towels over all of Australia.
This seemed to really be made so much harder than it needed to be....
lmao then tell me your easier way.
I wanna do this but I don't want to ruin my tank by accident
I'd be careful making that ramp go so far up under the light, if you aren't staying within a safe distance your animal could get burns. That's way too close.
You didnt show using the glass doors... nor did you put the handles on right. Now I have to find a different video that did this correctly because I just wasted time of my life lol
Why would you want sliding doors on a fish tank?
Bob Surewood Pshh, sorry I'll edit the title. I agree that doesn't make sense at all. :P
Bob Surewood To let your fish outside for a walk xD
Lol!
What a stupid question. It’s for easy access for reptiles. It’s no longer considered a fish tank.
Bob Surewood
For a reptile. That was a stupid question. OMG didn't know people could be so dumb. Lol 😂😂😂
Umm no afence but....couldn't u have just turned the tank on its side and made a slid door -_-
You can't do that because the UVB Bulb can't get through the glass. If you did it this way you'd have to make an entire In-cage lighting system.
@@JimBigIron oh ok thx that dose make sence ,hehe sorry 😛😛😛
No *offense* but you need grammar lessons🙄
@@JimBigIron she has the uvb in the cage any ways so I don't see what the big deal is.
@@chloewatkins3656 lol who knows, People love to try and be assholes on the internet. Good video!

To much work and exprnsive tools, rather just get a tank with sliding doors for 90$
Dylan Williams Yeah, this is for DIYers with tools and time on hand. It's a matter of whether you have time or money to spend I suppose.
Where did you find a 50 gallon tank with sliding glass doors for $90?
I guess if you're lazy and have money to burn, sure. But good luck finding one in a decent size for $90. Personally I'd rather make a little effort and do something myself than to blow a bunch of money because I'm afraid to get my hands dirty.
