Prehistoric Squirrel designed by Fernando Gilgado
(Acorn designed by Beth Johnson)
Difficulty level: Complex (not super complex, but there are so many steps...)
Original diagrams and Fernando Gilgado's Flickr page:

Acorn instructions by Beth Johnson:

MY PAPER:
Copper Tissue Foil (you can buy it here: goo.gl/dhVqv1)
40cm x 40cm (started with smaller sheet just to show the first steps)
I recommend at least 30cm x 30cm of very thin paper (you can use smaller sheets and even copy paper but the only problem will be shaping the arms)

If you're afraid of getting stuck at some point of this video, the hardest steps are at 18:30, 28:43 and 32:25
As you can see, it's not that hard. No tricky open sinks, no crazy collapse-all-30-creases-at-same-time steps
If you think you can do that steps, you should be able to fold the this model!
@Jo Nakashima
Dear Nakashima:
As I said, the video tutorial of this model is an excellent Christmas gift for those who love the complex origami.
Again on behalf of all users of youtube I'll greatly appreciate your efforts and I send a special greeting
I join the Order of the Acorn video tutorial would be excellent. thanks
how old are you jo? where do you get all your origami from?
I'm going to try this now
PICADO HP
I think you are the best origami instructor on CZcams! It frustrates me to the inth degree when people post so-called "tutorials", when in fact, it is really a video of them making something in their own little world, flying through everything, like you're really supposed to keep up with them! They don't have diagrams, they don't explain anything, the camera is either blurred or not even all the way focused on what they're making, their fingers are always in the way and they seem to be trying to race to see what is the fastest pace they can fly through everything!!! It's so aggravating! That's not teaching, at all. You, on the other hand are amazing! Your tutorials show that you actually want people to be able to follow along! I wish all origamist were like you!!!
Speaking to skill level, I think Mario zavala is much more better that him. But as we can see, he always make a digital model at the corner so we can see the steps clearly, which help me a lot☺
@@hunkycrown9585 yeah, zavala is more skillful, but Jo is more helpful
Yes he is the best origamist on CZcams according to Google
Thanks for doing this without annoying music. I love the sound of hands on paper. Really enjoy your artistry and I think this is the best way to appreciate origami: the perfect music to accompany the 'ballet' of your hands. :O)
A tanto tempo acompanhando teus vídeos só tenho a ti agradecer pelo tão dispendioso trabalho que tens feito auxiliando nós, reles mortais, a reproduzir obras divinas como essa.
Parabéns
Muito Obrigado!!!
Marvellous demonstration Jo!! Love your tutorials. Thank you very much!
Pls make the tutorial of the acorn! Thumbs up if u agree!
Forget the squirrel how do you make a acorn??!
he made it in another vid
@@stevenmeng8554 hah...7 years later gang
I saw the entire video; one of the most amazing and challenging models I have seen. Now the hardest part, let's start.
I just finished it!
it worked out pretty good!!
next project is the acorn
Thank you for the nice video!!
Thank you so much for making this! Looking forward to the acorn tutorial!
정말 좋은작품 감사합니다. 저도 도토리 토튜리얼을 기대합니다.
Thankyou Jo for another great instructional video!
I love the complex models that you feature and look forward to more videos in the future.
Sincerely,
- Xavier
Hey Jo :D (Hendrix!)
Just wanted to say thank you 4 showing me the wanderfoul world of origami! You and Tadashi really got me into this.I wander why ppl cant make some origamis, you know, like "complex ones",I made like Tadashi's Darkness dragon as my second model, did various insects....Its not hard at all when someone is showing u like this.
From diagrams, its little bit harder, but manageable.
Since lately Im all into bugs, one question:why you did so little insects models? You did Roberts ant, tarantula, praying mantis (such a bad model Robert...:) and thats it.
Do you have in plan to make the legendary Samurai helmet,or Stag beatle?
Id love to make that, and I couldnt do it from diagrams, got stuck...I made Makaewa's samurai helmet, but thats not really good one.
Id love to see that, keep up the good worg, cheers from Croatia.
I should also say that I *love* the acorn though, and would fill my lounge with those. It's not just one sheet of paper though, surely? I can imagine it in two, but not one. It would also be lovely for Christmas.
I think your tutorial is always clear and easy to follow. I did the acorn the first time round and it turned our really cool. The extra slow-down video of tessalation really helped. And Scrat video was great too. Plse Plse do a tutorial on the eagle- the one you did on time lapse
I think I am going to fold this for my next big project! I saw the preview and it looks fairly simple.
you deserve more than a like for the hard work for teaching us this origami
Woooh this took you long time and a lot of effort great tutorial!
Did this just now, it didn't turn out as good as I was hoping so I'm definitely going to have to try again sometime. Thank you for the great tutorial!
Wonderful model !!. In the beginnen I was affraid of being unable to finish it. It has so many steps.....But the tutorial is excellent and you get it. Than you very much for this video

What is the size ratio of the three parts? If i make the squirrel out of 20×20 cm paper, what size has the main part and the top of the arcorn to be?
Jo where did you get this paper from? Its very beautiful.
It's from origami-shop.com, there's a link direct to the product on the video description
Hi! I love your tutorials! If i use a paper sheet 35x35 for the squirrel, wich size of paper i have to use if i want to pleat the acorn?
Thanks! The side of the hexagon of my acorn is 7.5cm long (my squirrel is 40x40), so you can make a little smaller than that
Im struggling quite a bit to do the reverse folds at about 9:00 in, I wondered if you had any advice or words of wisdom haha. Any help would be appreciated
Match the line with previous folds
amazing !! i love your work
magique

Hi I loved the video and I made the squirrel and I was wondering if you could do the tutorial on the acorn
I made it. It so cool
Well this is now my pride and joy :)
it is so sweet it's Amazing!
maravilloso Fernando, de que tamaño es el papel? 40 x 40 cm?
PLEASE make a tutorial on the acorn , atleast the top part of the acorn.(The bottom isn't very hard to do) I couldn't find any tutorials for the top part . :)
working on it! ;)
Finally did it !
I did it with a 21*21 paper (from the printer) = the 'body" is easy but the head won't look very beautiful so you should use a 30*30 i guess
i don't know if i am gonna do the acorn cause it looks very hard..
Thanks a lot Jo
