Human limitations in tasks involving precision, repetition, and hazardous conditions have sparked a transformative wave of innovation in robotics. Unlike humans, robots excel in areas demanding unwavering accuracy, tireless repetition, and the ability to work in extreme environments, such as toxic surroundings or outer space. They operate without the constraints of human biological needs, functioning continuously without breaks or fatigue. Marco Hutter, a professor of robotic systems at ETH Zurich and co-founder of ETH startups like ANYbotics AG, pioneers the development of quadrupedal robots for industrial use, utilising innovative machines, actuation concepts, and advanced algorithms to achieve agile-legged locomotion.
At Falling Walls, Hutter will introduce us to ANYmal, a new generation of robotics, paired with machine learning algorithms, that are capable of a new level of visual perception that allows for autonomous navigation and planning-offering solutions that were once deemed unattainable due to human limitations.
