      Thanks that’s great to hear! Yeah I think I’m going to invest in some more insulation for my bay so I can get the ceiling insulated as well and then it will be pretty nice to work in there. The price of propane took a big jump here this year as well so it’s costly to stay warm.

    Wow! This video doesn't tell the full story on how much work this was. Lots of cool fixes here. I like the oil pressure switch customization. Also love the driveshaft you made. I'm gonna need to do similar soon. I would definitely have to make my own shift pattern label. I don't think I've ever seen you move as fast as that first start, hahaha. Really cool project man!

      Thanks! Yes this is one I just wanted to put all in one video so I ended up having to cut out some parts I would’ve liked to have included but they would’ve just made it so long…🤷‍♂️ And yes unless a life or a car‘s life is on the line you’re not gonna see me move that fast LOL! There was actually no danger but in the few seconds I had all I knew was the needle on the tack was going up faster than I wanted it to and I wasn’t sure what was going on at that moment so I just ran for it.

      Thanks! The swap actually went pretty smoothly for me, I wouldn’t rate it as that hard but I guess it depends on what your skill set is. For me the hardest part was the wiring. Now that I’ve driven the car a bit I can definitely say it was worth the effort, I really am enjoying it.

    Super awesome! I'm actually starting a project to swap a 1986 Mustang 5.0L into my 1998 Mercedes w202 C230 so this video has been a bit of help seeing as it's basically just a class/generation apart from yours! 😁

    • @CarswithNash
      @CarswithNash  Před rokem +1

      That’s great to hear, glad you enjoyed my video. I believe your W202 will have a steering rack in it, that should make the swap go much smoother, but I do love the feel of the original W124 steering so I stuck with it even though it was a major pain to work around. Also I believe you will have a stronger factory differential and CV axles, I had some problems with mine and ended up swapping in a unit from a 2005 Chrysler 300 along with the CV axles to match which I shortened and added the Mercedes splines to. That’s been my only issue with the car though and I have put 12,000 km on it since the swap, it’s been our daily use family car ever since the swap. One issue to beware of is the ignition switch will try to lock you out… or maybe you are much smarter with electronics than me but I have also seen other swapped Mercedes cars that use a starter button just like I ended up doing.

      Yes I've been really happy with the swap, I've been daily driving the car ever since and it's been excellent, a nice balance of performance and fuel economy. Be aware that the steering is an interference and I did some modifications to mine to make it work, a lot of people fit a steering rack from a newer Mercedes to make it work easier but I really love the feel of the original steering.

      There is a short clip of it running at the end. But yes that will be the focus of the next video is running and driving and any bugs that pop up on the test drive. No this is not an AMG, just a regular Mercedes but it is a more desirable model for sure and I will be adding the front bumper lip much like the AMG Hammer that you’re talking about. I hope you had a merry Christmas as well and a happy New Year.

    Looks like you used a dual-sump oil pan. Would a front-sump pan have been a little easier fit? Just wondering in case somebody wanted to perform the same swap. I have a 74 XJ Jaguar with a 350 Chevy that is a blast to drive and cheap to repair.

    • @CarswithNash
      @CarswithNash  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes that is right the front sump pan would work easier but I was working with what I had, I didn’t want to buy another oil pan and pick up. I would’ve liked to of discussed things like that more and I did in the raw footage for this video but I just couldn’t fit it all in and I didn’t want to turn this into a build series. I may try to discuss some of those things more in a future video. That seems to be a pretty common swap on those Jaguars, I have seen it multiple times.

    Hey Matt I really don't think you should put your fan with a toggle switch I think that would make it a little bit too too cheaply looking made would be the only way I could say it nicely if you put it with the the right way gives a Mercedes the dignity it deserves and hook it up the right way what do you think of nice Mercedes always goofy toggles it's going to look dumb just like the air condition I don't understand why you didn't hook that up or you would have had to do to hook it to the engine and put the serpentine belt on and you said it work it's kind of not a good idea I don't think because it brings down the value even if you're going to keep it if you ever going to sell it makes the vehicle worth more money it also defrost the windows better when it's humid. Anyways enough of my griping I still love it .

    • @CarswithNash
      @CarswithNash  Před 2 lety +2

      You did watch up to the end and see where I actually put the switch etc. right…? Since I put that in the ashtray door which was cracked anyways it would be very easy to remove again. Also the air conditioning would not be near as easy as you think, I have done an engine swap before where I built a custom bracket to hold an air conditioning compressor, but in this case the air conditioning lines we also intertwined with the fuel lines so the entire system would have to be custom built to make it work. Also I don’t really have room for an air conditioning condenser and I didn’t want the extra weight either. I don’t use air conditioning much and I have other air conditioned vehicles I can use during the hot part of summer which is only about a month here (July). In regards to the value yes these cars can be valuable but like I said in the other video this car is not in collector car condition, I did not buy this car for its collectibility or its value I bought it for it’s comfort. If you were not aware I suffer from chronic back pain and driving is a painful experience for me, every bump hurts… This is the smoothest and most comfortable car I have ever driven and that is why I just want to have it simple and reliable so I can always be able to drive it. I plan to drive it 12 months of the year right through our nasty winters and everything. The swap has been a massive rush start to finish because I have been stuck driving my Hyundai Santa Fe and it has mechanical issues currently and is also extremely uncomfortable for me. (Selling it ASAP)

      @@CarswithNash well next time you'll know not to buy a Hyundai LOL keep trying American cars listening to last longer to me at least the Mercedes that are good but the parts are expensive at least here in America my sisters ML320 with built-in Alabama so it hasn't been too bad for parts? Hasn't really broke down ever but one time with a mouse that got into the air filter and it worked it out and cause the engine to run really bad and check engine light and was a stupid mouth it tore up all the air cleaner filter element I didn't watch it till the end I fell asleep actually it happens now and then I'm glad you hit the switch at least. I always enjoy your videos Matt trust me I wasn't trying to say that you're ruining the car by not putting the air condition back in there there would have been a bracket or something that would have been a little easier to put the air condition on because you said it worked and everything so that was my point why not just have it put back on but if it's a big ass alone there's no room and all that screw it why bother LOL

      @@dcformee123 I’m more upset about not having the cruise control honestly and I could’ve made that work probably but I decided it just wasn’t worth the effort. I typically do use cruise control on the highway though so we’ll see if I get annoyed enough to retrofit a system later or try to make the original work again. I have enough unfinished projects that I wanted to just make this one really simple so I could finish it up quick and get back to the others, tweaks and upgrades can be made later if needed. My Hyundai was actually made in Georgia and I bought it because I know a couple other people who own them and also they aren’t known to have many issues. Mine has not worked out like that however, it’s been one thing after another since I got it. Honestly I didn’t even want to get an SUV but my wife likes them and she saved up the money, but still we were on a budget and when you combine that with the need for a smooth ride, the want to get something a little newer and our aim to get something with lower miles left us with not very many options and this seemed like the better one at the time. The climate here is just brutal on cars and a lot of people are pretty abusive to their cars here also so the newer used car market is a scary place to play… I have a lot better success buying sub $1000 cars because it’s easy to pick out a winner on a 20 year old car, the ones that got abused didn’t last that long. When I was looking at Santa Fe’s I actually test drove a brand new Blazer and that’s about the only newer car that’s actually impressed me, very smooth and refined, but no way I could swing the payments.

      @@Uc9uE3pKsS6uQ I have no plans of ever selling this car, regardless it’s value isn’t really that high that that would be a consideration. That would’ve been a very costly and difficult swap and in the end it wouldn’t be any more efficient or reliable.
