Dallas used to be an engineering town back in the 1950s and 1960s. One of the top ten greatest inventions of all time, the fully integrated circuit, was invented/patented at Texas Instruments by Jack Kilby in 1958 in Richardson. Then Kilby, Van Tassel, and Mussellman, all TI engineers, invented the handheld calculator in 1967 in Richardson. The ATM was invented by Don Wetzel at Docutel in 1969 in Irving. The Collins Radio engineers did work for NASA, and Ross Perot created the computer services industry with Electronic Data Systems in 1962 in Dallas. All this engineering talent created wealth, and the wealth created jobs.

What’s so crazy is that the Frisco/ Plano corridor on the Dallas Toll Way(30-45 minutes north of Downtown Dallas) is expected to have as many high rises as Dallas in the coming years. Fort Worth also is working on 6 more towers. DFW has a ton a of cranes dotting the sky everywhere you look. Dallas area is quickly approaching 10 million residents.

They keep cramming more people and traffic into the area of downtown Dallas. The congestion is creating problems with increased demand in resources that the city has not shown to conform to. Road infrastructure and drainage has been the biggest issue I have seen so far. The historic flood of August 2022 is a full example of affects from the overbuilding in the areas around downtown Dallas. This is nothing new. Dallas has floods all the time. Our city leaders do need to consider historic facts of the land before making decisions to the future of this city.

    I am a proud Dallasinian.
There is one thing that has infected Dallas recently; Crime.
Especially in the Deep Ellum District. There is at least 3-5 shootings every week at concerts!
It was safe as recently as 2017.
When I was in high school from 2015-2018,
I would sneak out from my Flower Mound home, take moms Audi,
and longboard across the city. It was perfectly safe for the most part! Especially Uptown and the Arts/Pearl district!
I tried to do that today as a fairly buff and rugged college boy.
    It did not go well.
I was almost thrown in the back of a silver Chevy Malibu.

Crime has always been a problem. You're a youngin, deep ellum is going through the same thing that Greenville avenue went through in the late 00s-early 10s. Not to mention how dangerous White Rock lake was in the early 00s. That's the problem with areas that cater towards the 19-27 year old crowd.. the crime got worse at Greenville avenue before the issued curfews, which I imagine will eventually happen to Deep Ellum again.. because it happened to it before.
