  • That’s a wrap on our first quilt show. Things we learnt - they are exhausting!
    Thanks to Sarah from Roxy Creations for her help! ( and Lucy!)

    It was so wonderful to meet you on the Saturday 🥰 your store looked amazing !! My daughter and I had 2 visits she loved the zipper charms as well I won’t show her the stash you originally had the first 3 days lol. It made us very happy . So hats off to you for your mammoth effort and incredible job especially during a time when you have so much going on with your new shop. I hope you are recovering well.
    I have been going to these craft and quilt fair shows since 2000 .My first one being in Canberra then following years at the Rosehill race course . Sadly the show has dwindled significantly over the past 12 or so years it is deffinetly down to fewer crafts and a massive drop in the number of stores ,certainly not like it was back then which is such a shame.
    Thank you so much Bec for being a newby with your beautiful store this year . Hope it was worth coming back next year for .

    I have done craft fairs in the past also! So exhausting but I loved the immediate gratification of having customers face to face and explaining my process for whatever project I was crafting and selling at the time! Looking forward to your next video!

    Loved your stall ❤ knew I would! Neither you or Lucy showed signs of being tired, you were bright and cheerful and very happy to chat. You both did an amazing job and I hope that you get lots more customers from being at the show. Looking forward to seeing you at the Green Door 💚

    I was so excited to meet you that I couldn’t concentrate on shopping much 😂 but love my little bag of goodies. I also thought the fair would have been bigger and was a little underwhelmed TBH. Anyway, you’ve survived and now have a great benchmark for future fairs. Hope you’re resting as much as possible 🤗 Melanie

      Lots of people said that. It’s a really tough retail market at the moment and the costs of a stall are high. Some of the vendors told me it wasn’t worth the time and effort. So it’s kind of a lose lose situation!

    What fun times. Wish I could have made it there. Are you coming to the Melbourne show later in the month. Would love for you to come. I'll come visit you there

      I’m not - sorry! These shows are a lot of work and financial outlay (which hopefully pays off). It’s really hard to manage the shop in Newcastle as well as the fairs.

    The kind of things we makers buy are getting more expensive and harder to come by in charity shops where i love (Wirral, Merseyside in the UK). In fact, I buy most of my vintage stuff from sellers on Instagram. I loved seeing your videos about your shop etc and I'm looking forward to seeing your new shop when it's all finished too.

      The shops can be pricey! Just have to search harder I guess - luckily I love the search.

    Golly gosh Bec you have had quite a journey these past weeks. Unfortunately, I was unable to make it to the show. Would have loved to rummage through your vintage finds and some of the bundles. Will check your website in a few days. Just as well you didn't commit to our Novocastrian Quilters Quilt show this week. Rest up .....

      Would have loved to do Novacastrian quilters but just couldn’t as this one was already committed. Lots of lovelies in store as I do not have the time to list it all!

    for business analytics, how much overlap was there in your online/in the shop & at the show customers? Part of the ROI thought process? Do you think vending was a one & done or an extension of your business model? (Local to me there was a shop that did not vend, because people would drive the 20-ish miles to visit her shop before or after going to the show...)

    • @Sewbecurated
      @Sewbecurated  Před měsícem

      All really good questions! Most of which I’m not clear on the answers. Hopefully I’ve extended my local (ish) profile. It was lovely to meet some faithful online customers. I think the cost of this type of show is high though and customers were reporting they were disappointed in how many stalls there were. It seems a bit of a lose lose situation. Retailers can’t commit the finances to a show and customers want more variety. I heard lots of people saying they were just looking for ideas. I get that - everyone has a budget - but it is hard for retailers to commit finances to provide inspiration only. I think I might do a video about my thoughts on this.
