  • Its time for a new clutch! John Deere's engineers were thinking pretty hard on these tractors. They wanted the clutches to be an easy replacement for the farmer and able to be done without splitting the tractor. This was a pretty straightforward project. All of the parts and pieces got disassembled and reassembled easily.
This video roughly applies to all John Deere 2 cylinder tractors. Some may only have one set of sliding disc and pulley clutch disc.
The plan for this John Deere 70 is to fix the small issues, get it running, and use it haying this next summer! It’s got live hydraulics, live PTO, and a 3 point hitch. It should be a good tractor for general use!

Thanks for the great video. I have a 1952 70 I grew up on at my grandpa's farm. We used it for baling and discing. The clutch needs rebuilt. This was a big help. I also have a formal C like yours in video. It was the first tractor I learned to drive at a young age. Thanks again....

To adjust the castle nuts your clutch should be engaged then lean the lever back towards the disengage position
