- My viewership's grown by about 250% in the last couple years and I wanted to put up a little "thank you" video!
The big engines are fun, but these small critter projects can also be interesting since it can take some creativity to power them. This is my working collection so far of these small engines!
Here are my old forum build posts for a few of them:
Athearn Hustler - cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/1739...
Jordan Products Mack - cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/1895...

Congratulations on your milestone! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, wisdom, and great videos!
Excellent program Darth😊 you are certainly a credit to Model Railroading!! Thank You
Well done sir! The smallest I've gone are MDC boxcab conversions with Bachmann or NWSL Stanton drives! Awesome work as always...
I very much remember your posting builds and help on the MR forums. Always enjoyable.
Darth, Thanks for this most enjoyable display of dinky critters ! I am jealous. So cool.
Awesome!! 🚂
Bravo on you "5000" looking for the"10000". Very nice "critters" collection.
Congrats 🎉 , well done 👍
Congrats on 5k subs, that is AWESOME!
Congratulations on 5000 subscribers. I love your collection of critters.
Well done on the 5K and well deserved. I have learned so much from this channel. Thanks.
Congrats on exceeding 5k subscribers! That is one awesome Critter collection - and yes, more collection videos would be great to see on your channel.
Thanks for sharing your great critter collection! I started model railroading in the late 50's as a young teen and have coveted critters ever since I saw the little Penn Line in a magazine ad. Unfortunately I haven't had the mechanical aptitude to even attempt what you have done, but I greatly appreciate it. I do have a Walthers Plymouth ML-8 with DCC, and it's one of my favorite locos. Cheers from Wisconsin!
The Penn Line D2 is a good starter model if you ever feel like attempting a restoration! They're a little lighter than the D1 since they're made from zinc instead of lead, but the gear transfer makes them a lot easier to work on than the belt drive.
Congratulations!
I didn't know they grew Redwoods down in Illinois! Up here in Wisconsin we have a variety of trees, but no Redwoods 🙂 Anyway, love your videos, especially the old Hobbytown builds, very helpful and detailed. I just got my first set of Hobbytown (two with Lindsay shells) engines and cant wait to get them rebuilt. And congrats on 5000 subs!
Wonderful collection of critters you have- thanks for sharing them with us. Congratulations for hitting the 5K milestone. You do have an interesting channel that covers a lot of historical modeling and repair work. It would be nice to see more of your collection, especially since you mentioned brass. An exclusive channel of brass models would not be very interesting as it would be too specialized, but a small collection of brass models combined with popular plastic models would be nice to see, although waiting for another milestone like 10K would be too long a wait! Ain’t none of us getting any younger, ya know? 😊
Congrats on 5K subscribers, you deserve it with how good the quality of your videos are and how informative they are. Now the road to 10k is next, good luck!
Congrats on the 5K. You collection of critters is unmatched. Cheers Rob
Congrats Darth, hope to see your channel continue to grow!
Not only am I appeasing the algorithm with a comment but I highly enjoyed this. I also love little critters and am looking into repowering a Athearn Lil Monster in the future and adding DCC with sound.
Congrats man!!!! You quality exceeds most!
Every sub is well deserved, would love to see some videos on your favourite kits you've built or recommending kits that are currently on the market for different skill levels. I scratch build locos and rolling stock for N gauge and your build videos are invaluable for learning what makes a good runner and pointing out problem areas in mechanisms.
Only one way to say this: Giant Well Done for Micro Projects! I'm working on a Hybrid Athearn "FrankenHustler," with DCC & sound. It's similar in appearance to your CIL#4.
Congrats on the 5k! We need some updates on the upcoming layout that can be seen on the right!
Custom viaduct in progress! I'm hoping to have working track down sometime this year.
Congratulations on this mile marker and the well deserved success it represents. Keep up your excellent work.
Congrats on 5k! CIL #10 has gotta be my favorite, I can't believe you managed to power that little thing
Thanks! The modified 44-Tonner truck was a tight fit, but it worked out nicely!
glückwunsch zu 10k
I hope to make it to 10K eventually!
Well deserved... your work is outstanding!
Congratulations on your channel reaching 5000!!! I enjoyed seeing your collection of critters, especially CIL 4. Those Redwood Trees that spring up overnight are home to the native, to central Illinois, Piasa Birds!! Keep up the good work and congratulations again!!
Have you ever done a video or forum post on how you make those custom mechanisms from brass? I’m really curious as to how you do that. Congrats on the 5k!
Also surprised you don’t have the ubiquitous Model Power Hustler in there, those seemed pretty common at one time.
There are some links in the description where you can see how I put a few of these together. :)
I have the AHM MDT (currently project status), but was never really interested in the ones from Model Power.
Maybe post links for build videos of some of these critters. Be cool things to do. I have a few already like Grandt line 25 ton box and emd 40 ton and quite a few DDT
Just added to the description!
@@DarthSantaFe thanks, keep up the great work
It’s more expensive than the Hornby you have but I can recommend Hornby’s Ruston 48S. It’s remarkably smooth and quiet for a switcher about the size of your Grandt Line 23 tonner.
Wow, that is a tiny one! I also see that High Level Kits has a couple nice ones, so I might have to give one of them a go sometime.
Even more impressive, they squeezed a DCC socket in there.
try adding #402 smds for headlights
You should work on a roundhouse mdc old-timer 2-8-0, 2-6-0 or 4-4-0 and work your upgrading magic and make it run like a modern loco
I actually did build the 2-6-0 a while back, and it’s a great runner!
Your welcome😂😂😂😂
Show CIL 1, 2, and 3 for the 10,000
Those are all Shays, so maybe I’ll put them in a logging equipment video sometime.
I'm thinking about rebuilding some 4-4-0 loco's you mentioned corless motors are the better than the 5 --6 pole motors?😮
Coreless motors can be excellent since they don't cog like regular motors, resulting in better low speed operation, and they don't use as much power. Which 4-4-0s are you working on? I might be able to point out some options for you.
@@DarthSantaFe none right now in changing from g scale bach mann to HO I have seen the work done by a civil war club there brilliant. I remember owning a bach mann 4-4-0 it ran so poorly
So first would be 12 wheel pick up I was impressed by brass tube axle sleves and looking at bronze
Fosfer wire have you maybe done a long term look at bullfrog snot. Thank you for the reply
Ps how about a kit bash small mountain style 2-4-4-2 a old bass boiler 2 0-4-0 's maybe 🤔
@@andrewholmes8337 The new Bachmann 4-4-0 is a major improvement over the old ones with the tender mounted motor. They’re expensive, but you now get the mechanism fully contained in the engine with a coreless motor and improved electrical pickup. The old Mantua/Tyco General is also a good model, and I managed to fit a 16x29mm 13,000RPM coreless motor in the tender to make it a super smooth runner.
I do have an articulated kitbash in my backlog. Don’t know when I’ll get to it, but it should be interesting!
