Doesn’t get much better than that. You are a true sportsman. Our public lakes in Illinois are pretty much full of 5 and 6 inch gills and crappie. The public needs to be better educated so thank you for using this platform to help get the message across.

Great Video as are all of yours. Thanks for taking the time to make and share them. This one brought back memories. I was born and raised in NYC and pretty much over the years fished much of N.Y state. However, in the late 70's I had mover to NJ. While working for the RR a conversation came up concerning fishing. When I told them about the size of the sunfish in some of the NYS reservoirs, one of them told me about GIANT SUNFISH in a gravel pit that just happened to be adjacent to the RR. When I had the opportunity to finally fish it, I was targeting Bass using minnows. I however caught TWO Bluegill males one being 10- 3/4 " the other being11-1/2". I frankly never previously saw bluegills with those dimensions. They were LITERALLY as big as coffee saucers.

When I fish for bluegill im usually using 1 or 2 Lb fish line. I set the drag kinda lite and let them tire themselves out. When I tell you its fun on lite line the smile it brings and the excitement I just can't get enough. 6 Lb is good when im fishing for multiple species but I typically fish for bluegill, and shellcrackers only. I typically catch bluegill an shell cracker anywhere from 9 to 13 inches but I would love to hook into some bigger ones someday.

I had a friend that lived on the lake and I got to go fishing there, I waded the shore line and used my #4 fly rod with floating line and tippett with XT 6 lb test line and a small popper, was a great time I kept 12 of them and enjoyed catching bluegills and letting them go.

My buddy has access to a private lake here in Northeast Ohio. For whatever reason it's not like it was a few years ago despite the lack of fishing pressure, there used to be absolutely insane crappie. You'd have to catch a 15 incher elsewhere and it MIGHT weigh what a 12 incher here would....and I got some pushing 16. My grandparents live on a lake where I've gotten 17s and heard of bigger but didn't have the thickness of the ones at my friend's lake. Which I'm grateful for in a way, the fish at his lake were too thick and mushy even in cold water. . But despite the crappie not being as good the last several years, the bass are ridiculous. In northeast Ohio 5 pound bass are a rarity. We caught 6 and all were over 5 one early spring day. I just wish I knew for sure what caused this and why the crappie aren't as massive anymore. For one it's an ancient lake, it's deep for it's size with the max depth around 60 feet for just a few acres, created by the local glaciers from the last ice age

Fishing, catching fish and keeping nothing at all is equated to going hunting using blanks in your rifle. You are spending a lot of money but getting nothing back from your investment, except knowing that you can catch fish. Totally pointless.
