Lyrics by : John Myung
Underrated 10 years old joke.
@@SimoneCalloni Exactly, lmao
Is this the origin?
This is funny but time has proven through the self titled album that Myung actually writes good lyrics
Not funny anymore. Very very old joke
Thumbs up if you're listening in 1928
Watching this in 1928 BCE.
Dafatal I'm listening TO 1928 lol
I wish I was born then it sounds great
Thumbs down because me listening in 2112
dark
people in 1928 must have been like: "huh, dream theater"
The keyboard intro to Metropolis, transposed to D (00:00-00:05).
The verse riff of Metropolis, also in D (00:05-00:27).
The chorus from Strange Déjà Vu and One Last Time (00:45-01:02)
The Metropolis verse riff again, in E this time (01:16-01:18).
The main riff of Metropolis is used very briefly at 01:34.
The melody of the chorus of Metropolis in the form of a guitar solo (01:35-01:52).
The solo from One Last Time. (01:51-02:08)
The Strange Déjà Vu chorus reprise (02:09-02:26).
The intro of One Last Time as a guitar solo (02:25-02:43)
The riff in E from The Dance of Eternity, vaguely similar to a riff at 07:16 rom the intrumental section of Metropolis (02:58-03:06).
The verse riffs of the next track, Strange Déjà Vu, under a keyboard solo (03:08-03:34).
The last notes of the song provide a transition into the next track (03:34-03:38).
God bless you sire
+layelaye Also, the second guitar is from Home.
the metropolis guitar riff 7:17-7:22 at 3:00-3:02 or 3:04-3:07
The Dance of Eternity part also relates to Fatal Tragedy around 4:20 in that song
This comment alone proves that no other single Dream Theater album will be as good as this one
JP has the most expressive guitar playing style..... It's very beautiful.... The man has a special heart
Indeed!
And a very expensive guitar
1:35
"There must be the third and last dance
This one will last forever
Metropolis watches and thoughtfully smiles
She's taken you to your home"
I've listened to Dream Theater for 10 years and never picked that up. No wonder the guitar solo sounded familiar. Wow
It's a recurring motif in the Metropolis saga. It is also repeated in Home, in the second chorus, with "Victoria" in place of "Metropolis".
FFFFUCK ME!!!!YES!Mind blown!
That reference i picked up by myself, so cool
Maybe these kinds of reusing main(?) melodies through out the whole album is influenced by The Wall-Pink Floyd
This very song is amazing.. it's so full of life, and the composition is just beautifull! I know it's a personal taste, but even this instrumental bit is full of emotion to me.
dream theater has sprinkled snippets and riffs from all of their music through out all of their music. especially this album. but it does have connections to others song here and there. ultimately there is one big story being told. wonderful album and genius work. still my favorite album
I only wish the story itself was better told. 1998-99 was the year for cyberpunk/steampunk to thrive with films such as Dark City and The Matrix, along with psych thrillers like The Sixth Sense. Also in video games, Silent Hill(psych thriller)just came out, so DT had the potential to make an absolute massive splash in the mainstream.
If only they weren't so pissed off from the FII studio sessions, then the story would have had much better continuity, instead of incessant and gluttonous instrumental sections that kill the pace of the story.
The story does not move at all after "Fatal Tragedy" until "Finally Free". DT had a gold mine up its own sleeve. The setting was perfect from "Overture 1928/Strange Dejavu", followed well by "Through my words/Fatal Tragedy"..... and then they had to kill the story with instrumental orgies. Damn, they had such potential and rarely, ever realised it with this album.
2022 this is still one of most beautiful song from Dream Theater. 2:27 i literally shed a tear. Kids nowadays will never know the true beauty of such music.
I’m a kid and I love this song, don’t assume kids don’t like old music jeez
@@ksbtch1935I would say for most
C’mon, I’m 14 and I’m covering this song
@@ksbtch1935That and there's many an unrecognised (by the big music machine) artist making incredibly soulful music
That guitar solo on 2:27 will never leave my head, neither do I want it to.
0:27 Alright, this is it! Time revenge! You're death won't be in vain, Gohan!
Final Masterpiece of Progressive Metal Album in 20th Century
SFAM will be never beaten in our life time. Start to end, just a magical concept progressive journey. Their peak, their true masterpiece. Just the perfect blend of theme, melody and technique.
Despond
Definitely not story telling though. Too many breaks in the story. Makes it feel like Portnoy didn't take literature class seriously at all.
Operation:Mindcrime is a much better experience as a narrative, in my opinion.
Also final masterpiece of progressive rock in 20th Century
Man, I cannot get enough of 0:27, that riff is amazing.
Might be my favorite DT riff of all time.
This whole album is working on some other universe. It's as if they were in my head and hand-crafted every single note and pitch perfectly to the pleasure of my welcoming ears, mind, body, and soul. The greatest album ever made.
My dad showed me this CD. I couldent stop playing it at least once a day
Haven’t listened to this song in 10 years but I still remember every bit of it. Such a good song.
Your Death Won't be in vain Gohan
That echo of Metropolis Part I at 0:06 always gives me shivers.
Two nights till the Boston show!
Very psyched!
Dream theatre is the greatest band ever. Period.
My favorite part about this album is how every song flows into the next seamlessly.
And DEM SOLOS.
I like how this opening hints to all the melodic themes to come later in the album
My marching band is performing this as our shows opener. It's gonna be fantastic!
Man, just never get sick of this band, they are fantastic!
Uma BANDA perfeita. Técnica, rítimo.. tudo de Bom!!!
Just amazing.
This album is really awesome, every song is a masterpiece
just amazing.
this song is a beast! sounds like a video game! Enjoyed making a reaction video to it!
This jam never gets old I promise you
This song is just so plain awesome! Love Dream Theater!
GLORIOUS
O.O that was... amazing.
Y no podré alejar nunca de mi cabeza el inicio de SCENES FROM A MEMORY... Tremendo disco.
This has a very OPERATION MINDCRIME vibe. This is my favorite album of theirs. Otherwise I harken back to my 1970's high school days and listen to the Allen Parson Project on vinyl. I ROBOT. Too cool.
2:25 I need more of this, this melody makes me fade away and forget all my problems and bad feelings, but it only lasts 20 seconds
Listen One Last Time, same melody extended ;)
@@joseluislefinaogomez9113 But sadly it's only the intro :(
Finally Free has the ultimate version
My favorite instrumental of all time!!!
Just... yes.
great song one of my favorites
20 years later and this song still kicks ass!!!
20 years ago, a masterpiece was recorded.
one of my fav..
Love this song!!!!!
1:36 love the guitar solo, quiet hard time playing it on guitar thought!! DREAM THEATER! \m//
Dude, we totally love you
jajajajaja
Great song.
Ouvi essa musica umas trocentas vezes já... (Top)
Grazie per tutta questa fantastica Poesia!! Dream Theatre Never Die!!❤ #italia 2018
Dude! You did such a great job on that one! and believe me, i'm not a kind judge, because i love Dream Theater beyond words, and you have my approval! tenfold! i like the way you made the guitar more snappy, it really complimented the power and the rythm that lies behind the whole song. (album, really)
1:51 my favorite aspect of DT is how they can fuze jazz and metal together so effortlessly, The guitar solo is absolutely insane, but if that piano were not in there this wouldn't hit as good
Please Gohan, take me with you!!
Gohan : Alright trunks you win let's go get em
One of the few tracks in which you cannot decide which air instrument to play!
01:44 the guitar said "Victoria watches and thoughfully smile she's taking me to my home".
Epic...just epic.....
Metropolis pt.2 è il mio album preferito a forza di ascoltare il cd l'ho consumato...un capolavoro! che mondo sarebbe senza dream theater??
@AgurkTomatGulerod Absolutely true. Couldn't think of any other inspiration in this brilliant work.
yeah!!
God damn this song is amazing
The very first song I heard that got me into Progressive due to a friend. Fell in love with this album as a whole.
Dream theater isn't a manufactured mess. They put real Emotion in their work and music. When i listen to their songs, i really feel as though I'm involved in the story somehow- its what dream theater has done with every single one of their albums, they know how to captivate/ capture a person and place them into the middle of the drama that is un-folding in their ears. People listen to dream theater because each song is different, each song has its own charm and responsibility.
best of the best
Better than Dance of Eternity. Don't know why everyone only praises that one to death.
Stream of consciousness...is the best instrumental creation of them,probably...
Because it has 108 time signature changes. Making it extremely hard to play.
Don't forget Erotomania
i guess no one's gonna talk about hell's kitchen 😔
its great T_T
Classic Dream Theater!!
The Best:)
After all these years, I still have the lyrics memorized
This melody gives me Sonic Adventure vibes 💫
The guitar is used in many genres to provide rhythmic and harmonic accompaniment to a voice or other instrument, or to fill in the harmony in a ensemble. The guitar is also used to perform solo parts either unaccompanied or with accompaniment from other instruments. So it's a solo.
In the Anime "History of Trunks", This is when Gohan tries to push Trunks into Super Saiyan.
One of the first places I heard DT. Or at least the one that I really got to learn about them from afterwards
i hope every anime dies
Matheus Edgy
wait now hold up this song actually plays like in the anime? if it did that must have been sick
ma che canzone!!!!!!!! fantastica!!
Wonderfulll
I learned about this track 9 years ago. Yesterday I searched for it all day and couldn't remember the name. Falling asleep last night I remembered it. Oh, I think that god exists ... God of MAGNIFICENT MUSIC!
master
top pra caranba
I can’t turn my back on these people!
1:36 - 1:52
"There must be the third and last dance
This one will last forever
Metropolis watches and thoughtfully smiles
She's taken you to your home."
1:52
My favourite part is from 0:00 - 3:37 and the 73 minutes 29 seconds from the rest of the album
My fav track on the whole cd.
This has one of the raddest intros man
this song got me crazy!
This is the music playing in the time machine when you go right back to Friday 27th January 1928.
yeeeeessssss!!!
very good music
One week for the Arizona show!!! Have not seen them since the images and words tour.
excelente, el álbum completo
Muito bom!
you have one of the greatest youtube comments ever. congratulations.
This is Dream Theater's Sound of Perseverance and ...And Justice for All, the pinnacle of their work, fucking amazing.
1 Song,so many emotions....
That little lick around 1:58 is freaking amazing.........
If Rush played Heavy Metal!!
Well 2112 is a definite forerunner to prog metal
Someone needs to check out One Little Victory
The history of trunks
2:25 Like Going to fly,,,,
Whenever i hear it, i can't help but sing along 'there must be the third and last dance, this one will last forever.......'
Future Trunks babyyyyy 15 years later since i first discovered DBZ
THIS IS MIND BLOWING (GOD IS GOOD )ALL THE TIME
Portnoy Come back!!!
Although I love Portnoy, Mangini is a great drummer, and did a great job on Distance over Time.
IT'S A BIG QUESTION WHY IT NEVER FEATURED IN ANY *AIR COMBAT* / JET FIGHTING GAMES!
yeah i could see them doing a score for one of the Ace Combat games
if you can enjoying this song, you have great taste great sense of music bro
I'm addict to this song ..
lol i sent myself here! Awesome prog metal.
