Joe Burroe never slid coming out of college. It took a few bad injuries for him to start doing it. As a Tigers fan I remember Jayden sliding but he has to learn to protect himself better. God bless him and everyone reading this.

@marybowles6908 I've seen him slide and hop out of bounds...I think the issue is his defiance of risk balancing. The stupid rookie hits are the ones like his dive to get back to the line of scrimmage. That was a solid hit for no reason. He needs to mature as a mobile NFL QB or he'll be on IR.
Bellicheck noted this on draft day about him, I believed him then, I still do now. He's not as bad as Bob was but man, all it takes is one good hit.. He's gotta do better, I feel that he will get better at this, meanwhile Bob never did..

Man, if he threw the bubble on the short run, Dotson had a blocker in front of him with really only 1 guy to beat. Could've been a HUGE gain, if not a TD. He'll see that on film and learn. Also, watch how quickly that safety bites down on the run. Might be something Jayden can do to bait safeties for more YAC for the receivers.
Couldn’t agree more. You never see Lamar get hit that hard like that. I hope he learns from him in the film room.
Stutter stepping is probably the best way to avoid big hits.

2:20 in this play he also does a good job of setting the protection. He points out the blitzer to Brob and Brob does a good job of picking him up.
I hope kliff kingsberry opens his playbook in regular season and includes more motions and moving Terry around more i stead of just standing on the left side.

Yeah, that 3rd down which he threw out of bounds was confirmed by Quinn that he was supposed to throw it to the other side of the field. Certainly if he could get it to Ekeler, he had a lot of field in front of him.
I think the talk about hits is a little overblown in this game. Yeah, the first one wasn't great, and I'm not sure what happened on that play, but he did what I figure any QB is going to do and try to get it back to the line of scrimmage. As for the other one, the only reason I'd want him to sit it down is because it is a preseason game. As someone who lived through RG3's 2012 season where he was getting rocked on the sideline continuously, all this is pretty mild.

on the last play, the first read definitely gets a step. Would be curious if farther along into his career, if he's willing to target that player. He seemed to be focusing on processing this game as opposed to moving the chains most effectively.
Interesting, I think if we had a better kicker he could take that risk.. but he wanted to get points. If he didn’t make that FG shorter there were no points coming from that drive.
Idk just my thought but it could also be a trust thing where he didn’t see Terry even close to winning when he got off him.
I do not believe either one of those hits. He took was huge.. I do believe he will get hit huge before the season out. But to put some on those two hits, don't think so
Nah, that first one was a legit hit, but he got youth on his side for that one. The second on is a nothing-burger.

@theqbschool local radio was stating that kliff has jayden running other nfl teams offenses during these preseason games. They have shown zero of their offense. Very smart if you ask me
Jaden can fit in any type of offense in my opinion it's just that people put labels on certain types of players and they try to tailor based on that but I will say that he has intangibles athletic intangibles that allow him to instinctively be a good quarterback in any system
13:11 - Such a great point about going to the "hot side" where multiple blitzers are coming from. Eckler was wide open but JD was looking left the entire time, not right (hot).
JD is a student of the game. Pretty good odds the next time that comes up he'll toss it hot.

We're not showing certain plays by design. For example the autable to the deep pass from the screen play. Coaches didn't like him showing that #JD5
Idk if it's simply a consequence of the offensive design but aside from that 1 throw to Bates, I haven't seen him work the middle of the field at all. That was one thing about Maye I liked better pre-draft, hopefully Jayden can show that part of his game is improving...

Good stuff as always, man... As a long-suffering Washington fan, Ashburn syndrome is kicking my ass wrong this pre-season. I'm sure reality will set in soon, given our roster is pretty shite, but I love what I see out of JD. As long as he makes it out of season one healthy, I'll be happy. We have a ton of cap space already and will be able to build around him.
Excited to see him develop with McLaurin, too bad it took them this long to get a qb for him but this eason should get him some great time in and ready to keep assembling a wr and oline group for a potent offense

I'm curious, especially since this has the makings of being maybe the best QB class maybe ever, if you'd rank the coaching 1-6, but also a-f. Because I see comparisons to Mahomes, but he also has Reid coaching him up ongoing. Bo seems to be in a similar situation. How good is Caleb's coaching and support.
Hey JT, I wish you had done this video right after doing your Justin Fields video. I think you would have been more effusive in praise of Jayden, it really is night and day to see a QB who can read the field quickly and has good footwork. It makes the easy throws look even easier, and makes the hard throws look easy. As opposed to with Justin, man the easy throw look hard, and the hard throws look like miracles. So I get that JDaniels 10-12 wasnt challenged too much, but then again, he did what he was supposed to do, he can complete the easy completions and get rid of the ball quickly Thats really not something to just look over for a rookie QB, thats actually impressive in its own way.

I think the play at 13:28 might be same play as 2:45 (but reversed obviously), but for some reason the TE picks up the DE instead of going out and lead blocking. If that's the case, then Daniels made the right read on the DE but didn't get the lead blocker he was expecting. Would explain the weird decision to pull it out instead of going with the RB dive

3:14 I know this play well. JD either reads the DE crash to RB, TE fakes the block and then he keeps it. Bates TE messed up in my opinion. They normally leaves the DE on an island. But then they ran it again and was executed much better. But JD sure could've kept it and throw the bubble to Dotson, he's got room. Don't take that shot there. RGIII use to run this with Kyle Shanahan

at 14:00 - Washington has some bad memories of QB's who wouldn't slide......
The hits he seems not only willing to take, but that he just carelessly sets himself up to take, are some of, if not the worst I’ve ever seen. I watched him flat footed jump straight up at a DT/DE, as if he actually expected that he had the ability to hurdle over a 6’3”+ 260lb+ human being, who was standing up right and running towards him head on. And then he immediately got Goldberg speared directly into the Earth, with his waist starting from the shoulder height of the defender. And then he tried the exact same thing against a DB or a LB in another game that same season. And JD is literally my size and build, so I know it could not have been worth the price of admission to ride those rollercoasters.

He couldn’t throw on the play around the 4 minute mark, unless that slot receiver dropped back far enough for it to be a lateral. The tackle got too far past the LOS.

If he is hot to the back, on the two free rushers play, might score if he gets the ball there. That's what film is for though.

Apparently, he’s not listening to the coaches so the captains and other players need to impress upon him that he’s not just playing for himself. He’s also playing for them. He has to slide for them to be successful.
Yeah, guess it’s just me but I would take good mechanics and on time throws for completions even if they are screens at this point for a rookie - versus say, Caleb where he was completely out of sync with his offense. I love the Jayden’s decisiveness, we’ve had a lot of bad QB play here in Washington and it all starts with holding on to the ball too damn long. over time he will make better reads and I’m sure Cliff was holding back his playbook.
Problem is not w offense. Defense has been horrific and has resulted in double digit losses last few seasons

Not too bad, Yeah I wish he threw that bubble on that random keeper. Also he had Ekeler open on the blitz side of that ball he threw away. Better JD5 makes his mistakes now and learns so it is perfect in the regular season.
