      +Tyler Durden It's such a hot topic still because that was a terrible thing for Vince to do. He screwed Bret, the man that took and ran with the company flag after Hogan left, despite him saying he didn't want to lose the belt in Canada. Shawn Michaels never would've became the Show Stopper without his feud with Bret, because Bret made him elavate his game to a level nobody else would've been able to do. Even Austin owed a lot of his success with the fans to Bret. His I Quit match against Bret at Wrestlemania 13 was the defining moment of him becoming "the toughest SOB in the business". Refusing to tap to Bret was one of the most iconic moments in wrestling history.

    • @ryanakahuss
      @ryanakahuss Před 6 lety +4

      bret screwed bret by taking more money than he deserved and jumping ship to WCW after wwe gave him such a huge push and elevated his career. by MANY backstage accounts, he was a dick, and had a poor attitude. he was a good worker, i'll give him that. but the ONLY reason bret got such a push in the first place is because vince was under so much heat due to the steroid scandal, so they needed to put the belt on a smaller guy that clearly didnt look juiced out of his mind, hence the belt was given to bret. thats why the clique and vince came up with the hbk vs bret angle, two smaller guy that could be champions, completely taking focus off the guys that vince generally (and still) prefers, roided out monsters, lol

    48:10. this is how you know JR is one of the best commentators of all time. 10 seconds to announce Owen has passed and he probably had so many emotions going through him, and he was able to compose himself enough through probable shell shock and sadness to deliver that terrible news as solemnly as possible. It's hard for anyone, let alone commentators, to handle something like that, and the fact that JR found out with 10 seconds before his announcement... Idk how he did it.

    The most heart felt soundbite of the Hell in the Cell match I thought was actually Lawler. The 2nd fall, through the cage. When he simply said, in his real voice, "that's it, he's dead". Because he actually thought Mankind died. The look on Taker's face sold that soundbite as well, because he was looking down from the to of the cell thinking Mankind had died.

    Very candid interview. Said it before but sam seems to get the best in people through wealth of knowledge and mutual conversation. I find it unfair that WWE found flair as a more valuable asset to the company so they fired (again) Jim Ross. WWE should not have had Flair on this panel knowing his previous behaviour with alcohol and the fact that he was grieving a young sons death made it that much worse. Exploitation of ric flair at best

    Greatest Play by Play ("Straight Man" if you will) in the history of WWE. In my honest opinion, the ONLY person on his level behind that desk was Bobby The Brain Heenan on color commentary. That being said, an absolute legend. I've done commentary at an indie show and it is SO much harder than you think... especially since I was on my own trying to do color and play by play as almost a one man show. JR's timing, mind and passion for the business is so on point it can never be duplicated, emulated or replaced.
    In a dream scenario I've always said I want to be the next Bobby the Brain (which is impossible BTW but I'd love to try), and if I got to sit behind the desk to do color after managing my client's match I would want a storyteller like JR to bounce off of... no less. Someone who doesn't call every spot a "maneuver" or be a walking advertisement like what they now consider passable in WWE.

    Gosh, I miss JR on RAW every week. Cole is actually a pretty awesome commentator, but JR is just amazing. His podcast is pretty fun to listen to each week as well, definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.

    When I think of WWF/WWE matches in my head I hear his voice selling a move or talking about something Steve Austin did lmao. His voice and lines are legendary and a big part of my childhood.

    JR’s voice always makes me feel like I’m a 13 years old again and I’ve just put my video tape in the VCR to watch royal rumble 2000. WWE can put as many Micheal Cole’s, Corey Graves or Joey Styles on the desk but no one will ever come close to hearing “I’m good ol JR with Jerry the king Lawler at ringside.....” that’s when u knew u were in for good play by play commentary. I should watch AEW more 🤔
