Thanks, Bill. Purchased a used Deville 212 with the reverb not working. This was the exact issue. Got it up and running in 5 minutes. You are the best, my man!
My reverb wasn’t working on a half stack I got today and after watching your video I checked the wire and it was broken like yours. Little soldering and good as new. Thanks for the very informative video.
Traynor YCV80 has the exact same tank as my Hot Rod Deville. Troubleshooting (swapping tanks) verified there was nothing wrong in the amp, that it was a tank. Unscrewed it and turned it over, and it was similar but different to your fix - the green was busted, not the black, and it broke at the punchdown connector, not at the soldered end. My boy dug out the broken piece and we just "punched down" the wire back into the connector, and... good as new. Thanks for the video!
THANK YOU! Mine had extremely thin wire leads running to the transducers. Inside of my Sunn SR4100, it seemed like the floating portion of the reverb tank (it has a very sharp metal edge) had sliced into the wires and cut them both, as the leads had portions soldered into the Jack still. I noticed that those wire leads would need significantly more slack if that boat was to be left free to shake around inside the tank without the wires impeding upon its movement. I just spliced the wires and now the reverb is working and it’s pretty unique. THANKS AGAIN FOR SHARING!
Thnx for making the video. Was in a rush to fix a reverb tank on an amp that I never got around to fixing but have decided to sell - sure enough I cracked up open the tank and it was a broken ground. Cheers
Yup THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I just took the tank off my modded Crate palomino, cuz my EHX memory man bit the dust (on my foot..) and I never bothered to find out the problem with the tank. Sure enough it was a loose wire. Can’t thank you enough for your vid. Thanks
Hi Bill. Thanks greatly for your video. I took the accutronics reverb tank out of my ‘65 Fender Deluxe Reverb and all of the wire connections seem solid. I have no reverb sound but can make the tank jangle through the amp if I bump it. Any thoughts on what it could be?
Mine is an Accutronics too, half the size of yours, thing is the coil in the OUT side does not give any resistance in the multimeter so my guess is it's fried. I've been looking but didn't find replacements for those. Do you know if they're available somewhere?
Hello. I have a Harley Benton GA5 guitar amp into which I would like to build in a spring reverb. Which I'll take from an old Laney PL50 Reverb Can you tell me where to attach it according to the diagram? I want to build it into the body and mix in the sound of reverb.
Just bought an old Gibson G20 amp guy says the speaker works fine but it has no sound thinking about changing the reverb tank out wonder if these newer tanks will work
Random question, but by any chance, do you have any experience with a Fender Super 60? I picked up one, and whenever I raise the reverb, there is a hum and it gets louder as I raise the reverb. Is this normal in amps? My prior amps all had digital reverb.
I don't think I've worked on that particular amp but yes reverb generally adds a bit of hiss/hum but it usually isn't enough to get in the way of the tone and be an issue. It could be a noisy tube in the reverb section or after it, or the amp possibly/probably needs new filter capacitors.
Mine works partially. It does the drip thing on ten, but is not the spacious boom that it is supposed to be. I was wondering if the previous owner did it on purpose. I would like to fix it. I looked; it seems the amp needs to be taken out, to remove the speaker; to remove the reverb tank. It is a Princeton 112.
Thanks for sharing this verb tank fix. I’ve got a problem with my little Marshall MG15R. One of the tiny springs came loose and I finally found it stuck on back of the speaker magnet. Problem is I can’t remember how to reattach the tank to its mount in the bottom of the amp. I’d really appreciate it if you could help me out with this please?
MARSHALL RULES!! I had that problem with a tiny spring that came loose on the verb tank. After calling Marshall in the UK and describing the issue I thought I’d ask. Talk about going to the horse!!… great guy named Lee hooked me up with the Marshall rep in IL. Now I’m talking about my trying to fix this on my own and didn’t think they would even reply…sure enough a brand new (upgraded version with mount attached and smaller springs suspending tank) showed up on my doorstep from FedEx! I can’t believe they would help a guy that bought a used mint condition combo in Facebook market place but I guess I’m just a damned lucky cat! Major kudos to MARSHALL!!
Hey Bill great video. I have a Peavey VTX with the exact same reverb tank as the one you've got in this video and I've been getting a very loud hum and a simultaneous high pitched whistle that comes on when the reverb knob is turned up even to 2 or 3. This can be heard (loudly) even when the volume is turned all the way down (I either have to turn the knob back down or put the amp on stand by to make the noise stop). Any idea where I should start trouble shooting?
Thanks John. I'm not very familiar with that amp but if the tank itself looks fine, no loose wires, broken springs, etc., and you've cleaned the reverb pot and any fx loop jacks, then I would swap the tube if it's a tube reverb circuit. If it doesn't have a tube or if a new tube doesn't work I would go straight to the filter caps, unless you see something else that's obvious when you the open amp.
Don't forget to check out the reverb transformer if it has one. I don't really have a good transformer testing method off the top of my head, but I know there's a few around if you google it.
Same problem here, the magnetic field from your transformer is being amplified by the reverbs out put/ return section try Turing the tank 180 degrees if that doesn’t work could have a bad solder in the reverb circuit, lower gain tube there will help but won’t fix the real problem hope that helps
The reverb on my Ampeg Solid State amp sometimes sounds like it's on 10 and produces a growing feedback sound. it will suddenly go away if I jiggle the reverb control pot, but I never know when it will start up again. Can I unplug (1 or both cables) from the reverb tank? I never used the effect and it is quite a nuisance.
Yea, turn the reverb knob to zero, and pull the plugs if you don't use it anyway. If you still get some weirdness it's probably in that jiggly pot, not the tank.
I was surprised at how cheap a good tank costs. Two things kill them, using them too much or letting them just sit. The springs get weak and the reverb is not so good. Fixing a loose wire is ok but getting into hours of going over it with a multimeter, no way. I can replace one in under a hour. That new tank sounds great.
The springs themselves are like welded, not soldered, to the pickup thing. If they break off the tank is pretty much toast, unless you can figure out a way to re-attach them that can take the abuse that those connections take.
Don't expect a reply here, but I have the same tank in my TSL60, and the same wire is broken, but it is broken off of the plastic connector. My question is exactly how do these connectors work? Do I strip the wire and stuff it in, or does it cut into the wire when you insert it? Never seen a connector like these ones.
You gotta solder it back in. Strip the wire, desolder the lug on the jack, then stick it through and resolder it. Or do you mean that the whole lug broke off the connector? In that case you'd have to replace the jack.
Hello! I was checking out my AMP (XR600B), it keeps burning the fuse, but the inside look good. So i dont know what is up. Now i know what a tank is. And some screws of the tank already loosened up so, i will check the inside of the tank too! Maybe it fixes my problem. But i doubt it. :P At least then i know the tank is no further issue. Greetings, Jeff
Will a bad reverb take cause zero output on little 70's fender 48 watt amp? It worked but signal with cutout if I banged on it will come back on again and then it just quit working all together.
Ussually if the tank isn't working you just won't get any reverb but the rest of the amp will work. If the whole amp isn't making sound then it's probably something else. If banging on any part of the amp makes the signal come in and out I would start first by checking the tubes, then the tube sockets and all the physical connections in the amp for cold solders or broken wires or part. If it's a 70's amp that has never had a cap job I would probably do that too. Good luck.
@@GuitarBillCurran Thnx it solid state I believe I'll check for cold solder. Is the capacitor replacement a noise issue or can they kill all output? Also I checked, no line out or headphone output .
Does it make any noise when this is the problem?my reverb on an old peavey makes some crazy noise when I turn the knob up.i only get alittle verb out of it.im thinking it's the pot but hoping it's just a disconnected wire
Hmm, crazy noise, first thing that comes to mind is capacitors. If the noise only happens when you turn the pot, then that is at least part of the problem.
@@GuitarBillCurran I'll probably ended up taking to a professional then.it was my fathers amp so I wanna do it justice.he played it for almost a decade before he past away in 97.ive been rocking on it ever since I first figured out how to turn the thing on

Wow! That's the first I've heard of that happening. Some high voltage DC must have slipped through, possibly a bad capacitor on the "send" circuit, or maybe a bad reverb transformer. Very interesting! What brand and model amp is it?
