There wasn't much left of the relay station after the supernova. most of the heat shield was obliterated in the explosion, vaporized during the event.
It did protect several areas from the radiation flash, however. The wanderer, and a good chunk of the fusion chambers remained intact. slowly being irradiated.
The wanderer is still trapped on the station. attempting to find a way back, until they find an old communications area in the fusion chamber.
Contact is established.
