Rural England is where its at, can be shockingly beautiful here.
Ayy fellow rural Englander!

@@MonTheWell1886 My point exactly, the furthest points are beautiful.
Rural England is beautiful AND there's less people. London has entirely too many people. Oversimplification? Maybe so, but it's not wrong, lol.
Hello from the rural heart of England, Leicestershire! Specifically from Charnwood Forest, which is amazing all by itself. Rural England is the shit.

I’m a former royal guard and there’s a few bits that were very wrong. The bear fur hat and fancy red shit is all for show correct but it’s a extremely honourable part of our military. It’s seen as a privilege to join I would image it’s very similar to the usa’s tomb. Our rifles are loaded with 5 rounds for both safety and traditional reasons and all royal guards are active military members and are very well trained. If something was to happen you would use your 5 bullets and then go to the ammo hut which is never far to resupply.

Judging the entire country England by the tourist trap London is like judging the whole of america by New York.
I mean it's slightly more fair than NY because London is such a large proportion of the UK's population
I mean London still beats Birmingham
England is beautiful, my daughter lives there in a tiny village and it’s really nice. The local store even knows who I am. I go every year. It’s a bit rain but that’s what keeps it green.😊

@@thebeardedmugiwara But hey at least here in the UK we don't have to worry about being shot in school
theres an absolute HUGE different between the actual UK, and the ghetto part of the UK
Yeh, it's like visiting Skid Row and basing the US off of that.
I mean that's how it is for most countries. Most non Americans think about places like new york, California, DC, as representative of the country when they're really the worst parts of the country and in a completely different world from more rural areas and suburbs which are most of the country. Although the London comparison is more fair since that one city holds a whopping ~15% of the total population

@@Wicked061 good too hear youve had an original experience 😁
It’s hilarious how disassociated these guys are with the average persons vacation - 2 weeks is totally normal, especially when the person hasn’t seen their family in 8 years 💀
I'd argue about "average" there. Not that people wouldn't want that. 2 weeks sounds great to me. But for average americans specifically. Lots just don't have the time off to do that. That's the amount millions of workers have for a whole year including sick days.
@@solisglacies3183well for avarage European there are 4 weeks off per year and at minimum you have to take 2 weeks at least once per year *+/- for whatever country you are in
Normal for high class people, not middle class. 2 weeks is insane for me, just two weeks of vacation costs thousands of dollars to travel and have a place to stay, never mind eat. I Only went one time on a vacation that long, and I had to work online while on vacation to do so.
Fun fact; there's actually 30%~ more stabbings per million people in the US than in the UK on average, and the UK's gun crime is almost non existent.
Also almost every English person knows that London is not a nice place to live, and as plenty of others have said in the comments the more rural areas are generally much more pleasant. The people are happier, there's better weather and the scenery can be very beautiful.
Yeah we had a school shooting about 25 years ago, banned handguns and it hasn't happened since. What a crazy notion.
Shame our government are utter cocks. But, yes, that can be said for many places, lol.
Kernow up!
I hate when people compare the US to a European country. It will always be a dumb comparison the US is 40x bigger than the UK with about 6x the population. Local level government is also a lot more powerful in the US than in Europe these statistical comparisons will change wildly depending on what state you pick It's never going to be an equal comparison. For example the city of London has an almost identical number of knife crime as the entire state of Florida even though Florida has nearly 2.5 the population as London. Meanwhile you go to a garbage city like new york where crime in general is rampant and it slightly edges out London in knife crime rate
I live in London, and I can confirm that I do enjoy the fact that there is lots to do, although I would not live here for long as I could see my mental health declining.
Jackson is just used to the UK heat back in Australia. This weather is hardcore 😭

The problem with banning third party Reddit apps is is that the apps are used to help with moderation against spam and bots. It’s not just people having to use the the official app, but having the platform filled with bots and spam
It also helps with reddit mods hyper-modding hundreds of subreddits. It's good that the third party apps are gone. No more powermods and no more autoban bots
If you're travelling to literally the other side of the planet (Australia to USA), 2 weeks is the absolute minimum time that makes sense to stay there for.

The Tomb Guards (Honor Guards) don't habitually carry loaded weapons and perform the same role as the King's Guard in the UK, which is basically warning spectators to stay out of the way and to respect the dignity of the tomb area. If you charge a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington you will be arrested by the police, not shot by the guard. The soldiers with the red coats at Buckingham Palace and other royal properties are part of the Household Division (Coldstream, Grenadier, Welsh, Irish, Scots Guards). This is the most senior part of the British Army's infantry - the Coldstreams and the Grenadiers both predate the USA by over a hundred years - and it is very prestigious to serve there, as much as it is to be a Tomb Sentinel. The guards in the UK are fully trained, operational soldiers, who spend six months on ceremonial duties and six months on operations in the field; the guys you see in the sentry posts aren't officers but rather enlisted soldiers, usually privates, lance corporals and corporals.
I was very fortunate to have been part of a group which had a private audience with some of the Honor Guard at Arlington when I visited DC on a cadet exchange so I hope this clears a few things up!
These four guys need to have someone show them a good time in a city lol all of the non-chronically online people are out enjoying life! City life is great for having an incredible amount of entertainment options you can go to on a moment’s notice with also the option of just staying in

Most people don't like change but after the change is made they grow used to it and it becomes a non issue usually because their fears never materialize. I’m not one to follow statistics normally, because I’m a moron, but I thought London was top of this year’s clean cities list with a score of like 70 something. I know it’s a city and they are always going to be dirtier than a nice small village and whatnot, and I’m not saying that that particular list is accurate, but I’ve been to a few cities and London was one of the cleanest easily. I don’t know, I don’t know.
There's been strikes this year over rubbish collecting
@@MonTheWell1886 I can definitely see how that would make a considerable effect on ones impressions, indeed. However, the point about graffiti and homelessness is a bit far perhaps. I’ve never been to a city that doesn’t have graffiti or some level of homelessness and London is no exception but it feels a lot less in your face. Perhaps my points are an amalgamation of anecdotal and half-remembered stats, yet I feel a too-general distaste of city life and culture is affecting judgement severely here in the podcast.
I don’t like cities, I’m a countryside goblin so they scare me just in thought, but London was good. Yes, you have the usual urban problems but I felt it was a superior global city (albeit I’ve only visited European cities so I can’t speak with solid authority beyond this continent). I’d happily have a nice discussion about this as I’m genuinely interested in perception of cities.
If you’re just in London, in the week of Trooping the Colour and ending with the Kings birthday, you’re going to be in tourist magnet central & see the very worst of a city in prices and experience as an already busy city is busier
Also you can’t judge the entire UK on London as it’s a bubble which is also alien to a lot of British & Northern Irish people

The same way the boys don't understand why people like cities, I'll never understand why people like US-style/Australian style suburbs. It's a very isolating existence growing up in one as a teenager without a car or anytwhere to go. There's not even a convenience store or quaint cafe in the neighbourhood of cookie cutter single family homes, and a long trek to the strip mall and a town that's 50% parking lots. We don't have grass? There are parks everywhere in Edinburgh Scotland where I live, plus a massive extinct volcano in the middle of the city you can hike, with views of the whole city centre.
9:23 I like how Andrew mocks people that say "There's so much to do in the city" as having boring lives then two seconds later offers as advice "find things to do" 🤦♂uhh, that's kinda why people flock to cities Andrew. Like, you realise there are endless meetup groups and social opportunities in cities that don't exist in the suburbs? Or should I just spend my evenings getting hammered and doing doughnuts in the parking lot of the local McDonalds since that's the only goddamn thing to do in my depressing suburban hometown?
@Dragon Star doesn't sound remote to me
"Suburbs are actually fun!" cope take from Andrew blew my mind 🤣

The grenadier guard are elite enlisted solider that fight in combat when there not on guard and it’s a great honour to be one
Andrew is just wrong, too.
The rifles are unloaded, but they have ammunition nearby every station. If there was a sudden threat, the protocol is to call the police *and load the rifles* - they aren’t purely ceremonial, they’re active duty servicemen.
Also, when a threat is known beforehand, those rifles are loaded from the get-go.
They look silly in red? That’s because the legacy of the redcoats is that we wanted you to see them coming - and it was more important that you didn’t see them bleed. Such a dumb point though. Andrew’s precious guard at the unknown soldier’s tomb look laughable, too.

The guards guns aren’t loaded “mostly” if the terrorist alert is high enough some will be loaded. the price for the headset makes sense since it's a computer in itself on top of being a headset that doesn't require outside of system motion trackers or controllers. price is a lot but so is every apple computer. not insanely crazy especially when comparing it to headsets that need to be hooked up to a computer as well.
People forget Wales is part of the UK too. Its beautiful there
Jackson would have soft hands

Are the past two episodes not appearing on spotify for anyone else?
I don't think they've uploaded this one yet, but last week's was weird. I'm following the podcast on spotify and I saw the little blue circle showing there's a new episode, but whenever I went to the podcast page it just wouldn't show up. I had to manually search for the episode title to find it
@@littlekirby6 glad I'm not the only one having this issue. I had to go on my Xbox to start the episode on spotify and then my phone was able to play it
