In this video, we made a toothpaste dispenser from a syringe.

I'm sorry to hear of your father. This is a pretty cool project but the cable tie seems like it could be improved. Because the syringe plunger position is always variable, wouldn't it be better if you placed the entire syringe inside of PVC, added a cap at the bottom and drilled a hole to allow the nozzle to protrude, and add a lever on the side with a spring, similar to a drill press, to pull the plunger down? Or, better still, a DC motor with a worm drive and a button on the side you press to dispense toothpaste?

I guess there is always a space for improvement :)
The plunger's position is changing all the time, that's why you can adjust the length of the cable ties.
You don't have to adjust it all the time. Once or twice a week, depending on how many people use it.
Dc motor is a good option.

First of all sorry for your loss...I was looking for something else when I've found your video.Initialy I tought is a great idea then got to the end when saw the struggle of getting toothpaste on the brush.Seems a bit inefficiency for me.

With this dispenser, you can put the toothpaste on the toothbrush with one hand.

What kind of bit are you using on your drill to cut the holes in the syringe, at 0:15?
It came with my rotary tool. I think they are called diamond burs.
Not sure what size I was using.

I will have another project coming up in the future where the motor will be used.
While working on that project, I was considering doing it similar way - with a screw and a motor.
At the end I did not, but it's a good approach.

I see your point and I agree that it's not for everyone.
Some people can't squeeze the toothpaste out of the tube because of a medical condition, so this could make it easier.
