Piru Love is so hard. Bloody Mary's roll call verse is so iconic. When I first heard it back in 93, it still goes even today in 23.
No doubt on that, bt the roll call on shudda Been a B-Dawg was dope too👌💯
Finally this album is being discussed I feel like it’s that one part of west coast hip hop that never ever gets a mention it’s always NWA then skip straight to death row and nothing else
I couldn't agree more I was obsessed with this album as a young teenager. I gotta admit the crips side was way better music
exactly what i just was ranting about because banging on wax stretched far as fuk fam we was in Tennessee bumping that shit not a blood nor crip in site

I’m Crip And I Still Love The Song Piru Love
All the bangin on wax albums are apart of my childhood frfr
Don’t really get to see Battlecat talk & interviews like that so this is legendary & definitely a 💎
Dude is a beat legend. I almost broke my neck a few times listening to his stuff.
Piru is Crip in reverse, put the C's on his back 😱 ohhh laaawwwddd
Battlecat is a real humble man, peace to him
I remember being 12 - 13 when I had the bangin on wax CD it was half blue & half red use to bump that everyday smokin a cigarette walking to school along with Eazy E "it'z on ( -Dr.Dre- 187 ) UM Killa. Ain't no era like the 90'z Rest In Peace to everyone who lost their life from then up until now. 🙏
I still have the CD...lol
Bangin on wax was a classic
This type of behind the scenes info is imperative to keep the culture alive. Excellent work as always Holdin Court.
Hell yeah
Indeed. So refreshing to see a podcast/CZcams show that emphasizes the music, not just the sensationalist back stories about the streets and fuckery that always went hand in hand with all that great music in the 90s.
Culture? Lmfao. Culture is civilized nothing civilized about not being an individual and being a sheep to some colour, needing attention, validation and basically lacking real confidence in yourself.
Yea man Bloody Mary killed that Piru love. Her voice was the shit! Shit I’m bout to go watch it now.
Real shit she called out my H1400D to I Bang it every time 💯
A little history for you all a CRIP named
(Fo’ Clips RIP) was singing the hook on Piru and piru in reverse replacing the U with a C is Crip
R.I.P Redrum781
That piru love was sweeet. I'm a 98 and love it
Battle Cat is without a doubt one of the best producers
I grew up in Detroit and I actually purchased this cassette when it came out. I still own it. It got heavy play in the hood the summer it came out. At that time C-Bo, Spice 1, Compton's Most Wanted, E-40 and the Click was dominating the streets. 💯
Hood classic, was bumping it out Washington DC
Battlecat is dangerous🔥🔥💪🏾
This album is a classic I still bang it today
This is the first time I've ever heard DJ Battlecat talk
We use to bang that shit so hard bk in the day. “Nationwide Rip Ridaz” Everything gone C alright til this day roccn at our functions

Being that I’m from Dayton, Ohio……The home of Roger Troutman, we used to jam that Bangin on Wax album back then because of the familiarity with that funky sound. Funny story……The Summer of 94 when I was on my way to being a high school freshman, I went to Central State University for their upward bound program to stay outta trouble. Dayton, oh was and still is a VIOLENT mid sized city. I took that Bangin on Wax album with me to campus and used to play and sing Piru luv daily because it resembled Computer Love. That was until one of our resident counselors heard me rapping it and straight G-checked my lil 14 year old self. Lol I should’ve known better because that counselors name was “BK” and he was from LA. I don’t remember where exactly in LA he was from though. I do remember that he took me aside later that day and gave me some game about how serious it was back home for him and his homies and why I shouldn’t be playing with fire like that because you never know who’s listening or watching. Very big life lesson learned that day for sho…….
So basically you let somebody tell you what to listen to !! Because of their situation back home Smh …
You got punked
He gave you insight. At least he gave you a warning ⚠️ first. The rest was on you.
Wow. Great story. Not sure what these other dudes are talking about here.
A Crip sung the chorus
I remember going to get the CD’s every time they came out

Piru love was the best but Steady Dippin was real close tho
Great interview! Growing up in Detroit we played the shit out this album, we loved west coast music.
@Duane Baldwin I'm from Detroit too and you absolutely right.
Definitely was playing that shit over our way
Everybody love west coast music.
Well y’all claim our California gang culture
Been listening to his beats on Snoops albums battlecat ain't no joke
I remember finding that album at FYE for 5 bucks back in 2008. I was 5 when it came out & I lived in california at the time. I'm not gon lie man battlecat is at the top of my list of producers of all time. Every producer had their own signature sound & you knew it when it played.
Classic interview salute to the legendary Battlecat and Big Court
“What do you call an ugly crip?”
“What?”
“A C-monster” - Piru Love
Bloods and crips banging on wax is a epic , I play it chopnotslop (chopped and screwed)and never from this day. That will never be duplicated, that album. Even the people that rapped on there. Did a great job on the bars. They even took jabs at each other. But kept it peaceful never dissed each other or dead homies. Just straight lyrics. Steady dipping is a tight beat.
I was listening to d real DJ Screw back in 93... version of Piru love.
They did diss each other and their dead homies tf you taking about ?? They were dissing each other on the entire album. This album resulted in many murders
One of the greatest album of all time. So many underappreciated rappers. Love from Toronto Canada.
New Zealander here, have waited mad years to hear some info on this, dope!!
Everythang gonna C alright ! Tha Jam
It was a legendary situation and a legendary record
I was 8 when that album came out that Piru Luv and Still Dippin use to get played heavily on the streets of Shreveport, Louisiana
This is the first drill rap music ever and its a classic
Volume 1 had the BEST intro in the history of music
"Rocket don't smoke and Rocket don't joke...Rocket pop a cap in a n***a!!"
this comment was unexpected but funny as hell. people don't know they were listening to the crip side during that scene
Two words….Bootleggers Beware! Legends on both sides! Piru Love Steady Dippin
If you ain’t ready like us was in the 90 ‘s do not play what so ever at a party or bbq if you don’t get down with the getdown
Banging on wax 1 & 2 as well as Nationwide Rip Ridaz 💥💥💥💥
Can't forget Damu Ridaz too, B Brazy and Lil Hawk were snapping hard on that one
Piru Love is a classic 🎵 and I was a Crip🎩
Rest In Peace to NiNi-X, and REDRUM781. Most definitely Piru Love was a favorite of mine, in which made me want to do a song with Redum, and he blessed my album entitled "Da Park" album with a song called "Let Me Holla Atcha"...... REDRUM781 RIP homie.....
Both songs Cat mentioned came on the best of Crips album. And he not lying, them shits bang hard. Everythang gonna C alright remix, and slob bko
I remember being so young, my big bro was Cripping. On his wall was Spice-1, Too Short, Dr Dre, Ice-T. I remember all of that. Nothing stood out more than when Banging on Wax came out. Way different, just straight gang banging.
"No way out" was my favorite ✊😎
I was banging that Jawn and never picked a side they both had some hits

I made piru love track in Indpls. Indiana first at house of villains studio. The Wilcher brothers took it to cali. The song was incomplete and delayed because the Indpls. homie didn't wanna sing (Gary Indiana oh baby my city love) for the G.I. homie. Big wy- piru love version is my beginning track It was meant to be a G.I. city song called my city love. Shot out steady dipping. I love that and didn't make it
Very good rare interview pity love is a underground hit
my top 3 west coast producers
1. Dr Dre

I love all the songs the whole album symbolized our people coming together for a greater cause! To try to stop the violence on the streets. Even though it kinda backfired. It’s was still a good try at it. And to help try to get everyone to Catapult some into successful careers that’s rappers.
I also took it as a comedy show as well. To see who had the gift to clown the other side the hardest. Even though I was banging back then I didn’t care about what either said was saying in a disrespectful way. I thought it was and still is a great album. I had high hopes for all them guys. Shout out to the ones still living. 🕊🙏🏽RIP 🙏🏽🕊to the ones gone on to the afterlife
Ayo, Battlecat did Rip a Crab in Half? Mannnn, that beat is COLD! Aside from Bangin On Wax the title track, Cat did his THING on that beat.
Im 32... Just heard this song for the first time in june of 2023 and his song ride like a mf.. a hit for sho! I can only imagine how it felt being piru in the 90s when this song came out..much respect
I bought this album about 3 times in my life .. Top 10 Best rap album covers of all times .😎

i can vividly remember listening to these albums well actually tapes in the mid/late nineties as a legit jitt not understanding none of especially since we was in Middle TN ....i am dj and i wanna say i really appreciate what that did for rap music and the gang banging culture yall saved and changed lives world wide really deserve a nobel peace prize but thats another topic for another day🤣🤣🤣
SN: its a shame that y'all get skipped over when mentioning people who legibly changed or impacted hip hop especially if the artist from Cali
awol was the hardest on bangin on wax
Steady Dippin is still the ace track on that album. Too bad that peace treaty didn't last.
Maybe for the Crips but Piru Love actually got some Radio play in different cities.
As a fan of the shit talking and dissing Rip a Crab in Half was my favorite on the B-side and Mackin to Slob bitches from C-Side.
don't forget about steady dip"in.
Nice interview. Even then I knew the hoods were spread out enough for it to be a possibility off top: avenues, CMG, DLB, BH vs KPCC, RSC, Errr… Watts I think … no natural rivalries
Still have vol 2 on tape 👌 production was crazy
This guy is an absolute Legend. many days I revert back to this man making tracks on CZcams for my own inspiration. Much love OG!
This is an epic clip right here! If u know then u know!
He a monster
The bloods got that W mostly due to Piru Love and this is coming from and eSSe
We were researching this in N NJ to bug out off the ig'nance we thought we'd hear and definitely got caught up in the quality of both cassettes. Yeah, I said it, cassettes!
The fact everyone on Piru Love is passed away makes this song even more in dept and historical. Long live the real blood
Priu love #1 How deep is yo hood!! 4sho..... Banging on wax to Rep yo Set! 👌🏾🔴🤎💪🏾🔵⚡♾️✅💯
Thanks DJ Battlecat for Showing Love To The Red Team 💪🏾🩸
Piru love was the coldest song on that album and I’m from michigan we didn’t side with either side that shit was just hot
