    I've been using a fixed blade for EDC 4-5 years ago and never looked back. Lionsteel M1, MKM Makro 1*(actually it looks EXTREMELY close to the second knife you showed with the sheath that has the clip At the 9:02 mark). Both are perfect.
    I'm surprised more companies are using magnets like MKM do. That little leather sheath when the magnetic belt loop can be mounted pretty much everywhere: belt, waist band, sock, pocket. In the winter time I usually keep the knife in the sleeve of my coat. It has nothing to do with using it as a weapon, I carry knives as tools. I use a knife at just a dozen times a day, at this point I open everything with a knife so I need to get to it. Usually id leave 6-7" of cord hanging out at the tip of the sheath that I'd leave hanging out of my sleeve that I'd use to pull the knife to my cuff so I can draw it out.
    With that sheath I just put it in my cuff, and have the loop wrap to the outside of the cuff and the magnet will hold it right there.
    *I did manage to erase my key card to get into my building and had to do a Fred Flintstone at 10:30pm, banging on the door to be let in. So that is a drawback...

    • @LastBastian
      @LastBastian Před rokem

      Haha... Nice!
      Funny, the first knife sheath I ever made, I lined with magnets to help hold the knife in. It was pretty crude though, I'd be a little embarrassed to show it off.
      I am a fan of being able to clip a knife anywhere you need it. Your cuff/sleeve idea is interesting. 👍
      So far I've only made leather and wood sheaths, but I want to try Kydex one of these days. Leather looks nicer, to me, but Kydex is more practical in some ways.

      @@LastBastian you know the one thing that NOBODY does, and I think is something that would be huge if it existed is custom handles. I don't really mean micarta vs G10 vs Carbon fiber or even design, it's size. Offering different size handles for a knife that would fit different size hands, or different grips and thickness. There's a company that make knives that are designed to have two fingers go through a skeleton handle that require an actual ring measurement, and the different handle scales you can get for the Esee Iluza is about it.
      I see so many CZcams reviews with people saying "oh I wish the handle was longer, or thicker/thinner or do/don't have finger grooves, etc."
      And yet…nothing.
      Edit: I mean making a knife where you offer different sizing, more than just scales.

      @@timwhite5562 Gotcha! Good idea. As a maker, I could certainly make any size, shape or thickness.
      I actually kinda started out customizing knives. For a while there people were paying me to customize their ESEE knives. Especially the Junglas. I also made custom scales for it that were thicker, and more contoured to the hand.
      I also made my own version of an Izula but with a longer wood scaled handle.
      My problem is that I have too many hobbies and not enough time for half of them. Lol! So I stopped taking orders for others, and basically just putz around making stuff for myself when I have time.

    Your knives are pretty awesome!!! The smaller kiridashi at 1:48, the little straight blade at 9:11 & the little cleaver at 13:00 are on my favorites if you ever sell one let me know. The little cleaver looks a lot better than the stuff that dude you said you take inspiration from, his stuff is too futuristic looking.
    What tool did you use to do the texturing on the kuradashi handle? Also do you mind telling me what suppliers you use for knife making stuff & leather working stuff? Also what is your main grinding tool you use?

    • @LastBastian
      @LastBastian Před rokem +2

      Hey, thanks man! I appreciate you checking out my knives!
      I use a Dremel sanding drum to texture the handles like the kiridashi and the "stubby" green handled knife. And a hand file for spine file work.
      My main knife making tools are a bench top drill press, a modded porta- band saw, and an old 2x42" craftsman belt grinder I bought years ago for around $150, and modded a bit. It's not great, but I make it work. I'd love to upgrade, but it's a big price jump to getting a multi-thousand dollar 2x72" grinder.
      The leather, I bought a whole side, or shoulder (I think) of a cow years ago. (Vegi-tanned) I can't remember exactly who I ordered it from, but there are a few nice leather suppliers online.
      Then I bought a few tools and dyes off Amazon. Mostly Tandy brand.
      I ordered 1084 and 1095 steel from "New Jersey Steel Barron" He has a good reputation, I believe.
      I send my blades out for professional heat treat to: "Peter's heat treat" they are real pros.
      1084 is relatively easy to work with and heat treat, but I haven't the set up to do it myself at this point.
      I get most of my hardware and handle materials from usaknifemaker.com. Though there are other places like "Jantz" and "Alpha knife"
      Abrasives I've bought from a few different places, I just kind of shop around. You don't want to use regular hardware store belts and sandpaper for working steel, so you need to order specialty stuff online.
      Hope that helps. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions!

    So these were made with just a grinder/belt?

    • @LastBastian
      @LastBastian Před 29 dny

      Basically yeah. I have an old craftsman 2x42 belt grinder that I modded a little. It's not fancy, but that does like 80% of my knife work.
      For the rest, I have a small benchtop drill press for drilling holes, a Dremel to help with handle shaping.
      I did splurge on a hand held metal cutting "porta-band" saw for cutting stuff. Though the same can be accomplished with a $20 angle grinder or cheap "sawzall" saw.
      Also lots of sandpaper. 👍

      @@LastBastian awesome. I’ve only recently found out I can buy blade steel blanks and don’t have a lot of space for tools. Think I’ll give it a shot

    • @LastBastian
      @LastBastian Před 29 dny

      @@AreUmygrandson Yeah, if you buy knife blanks that are already cut to shape with pin holes drilled, then you just need a way to grind the blade bevels and shape the handle material.
      Just FYI, getting good grinds is tricky, but can even be done with files. Though a grinder definitely makes things easier.
