Her scene at the end of Spartacus still brings tears to my eyes.
Loved you Jean RIP
Standards of physical beauty change dramatically from generation to generation; but Jean Simmons would have been a stunner in any time or place, from ancient Rome, to Elizabethan England, to the Victorian era -- all of which she visited in her films. Always a welcome and enchanting screen presence.
Yes, exactly.
It's called class.
If you look up "grace" or "elegance" in the dictionary you will see a picture of Jean. One of my all time favs. Brilliant and beautiful. "you're eyes are the eyes of a woman in love" I think we all fell in love forever, from that moment on. May her memory live on.
The incredible Jean Simmons brilliant part in Spartacus
...And to the one and only Jean. You will live on here through your beautiful films.
Very heart felt and true. Kirk was the driving force behind the film. Jean's performance was great
She was so wonderful! Love her and her films! RIP Jean !
Class. Impeccable class, grace, a truly extraordinary woman. Thank you and God speed, Jean.
She had the most beautiful voice in the world
gugulethu ndlovu Yes she always sounds lovely. But when comes to the most beautiful, meet Greer Garson.
Miko Sharp Teresa Wright too
Jean Simmons, beautiful lady
You are no longer in pain! You no longer have to worry about your family. You are truly at peace! Thanks for opening your home and world to me! I love you! Shine your grace on heaven!
To the one and only Varinia....................Jean, your death has left me heartbroken. How could this have happened???? I did not expect it. It was total shock. I did not expect you to die.
Thank you for the wonderful memories. For Desiree, The Egyptian, Guys and Dolls, Spartacus, All the Way Home, and The Grass is Green.
A toast to the one and only Varinia...........
Forever and Always
I love Jean Simmons, Spartacus is one of my favourite movie ever
In the older Jean Simmonds remains the untouchable young Estella, so beastly yet so equally endearing to Pip, and also to me.
Nothing changes someone of such rare and infinite beauty.
I was in love with this beautiful lady, when l was15 years old.
Ahh... to the one and only Varinia & Spartacus!
Jean Simmons was charming.
rest in peace jean simmons
She's so cool!
The charming and enchanting Varinia.
Jean Simmons,... I will always love you!!!
RIP jean simmons
Jean was indeed much more beautiful than Elizabeth Taylor. Should have gotten more recognition than Ms. Taylor. Taylor had the agents and friends in Hollywood that kept her famous. Jean had agents and friends in Hollywood that could have helped sustain her fame but she was humble and probably did not want to do all hob-knobbing one has to do to get an award. I think she should have been given a Special Oscar for her lifetime of work, but alas it was not to be.
Jean Simmons’ performance in Spartacus is incredibly underrated. When you think about the film as a whole, her character is the soul of it all.
she is still beautiful here
Jean Simmons was the essence of femininity in every role she played.
I previous poster said that Jean Simmons reminded him of Audrey Hepburn. Well, I'm not surprised at that because I'm pretty sure that Audrey was virtually impersonating Jean in her early films. Take Roman Holiday, William Wyler wanted Jean in that film but couldn't get her. Now I wouldn't be surprised if Wyler told Audrey to play the role like Jean.
I agree that she had a decent career and in a stable of legends.
For me Douglas's best film was Paths of Glory (1957).
une actrice de toute beauté
@Mr1131988 I agree with you to a certain extent. I've realized that Audrey was more popular than Jean because when Audrey had her hiatus from acting (1967 - 1976) she had offer made constantly for her to return to movies. Jean, on the other hand, did not have any offers from 1963 -1967 because she wasn't as popular as Audrey.
Kirk Douglas na cena de SPATAKUS na cela com Jean Simons, dá o maior exemplo, de como um homem deve respeitar uma mulher!... inimitável...
True!!!!🤗🇬🇧
awww Grandma Sophie I love you
Miss when award shows were sincere commemorations from one individual to another
Wow she was so Beautiful in Spartacus! Stil pretty granma.
She was Hollywood Royalty!!!
R.I.P
One of the two most beautiful Gene's or if you prefer Jean's to come out of the Old Hollywood era
Jean, the elegant lady who in her earlier years captured the hearts of many of the men she co-starred with in the many movies she graced successfully in her prime years of movie making.Apparently she smoked for many years and finally succumbed to lung cancer.Though The Lord gave us her persona for eight decades and she will remembered for many decades to come for the Love we all felt when she was with us.
R.I.P.
RIP
Thank you for the correction. What I meant to say was that she never won an Oscar. It was the lack of parts that slowed her career. Also that she wasn't as popular as Audrey. It's great she got an Emmy and a Golden Globe. Before she died, people were campaigning the Academy to get her an Honorary Oscar but it was not to be.
ANGEL FACE !!!!!
She was made for loving you.
Looks different without makeup.
It was sometimes difficult to be that in control in the Studio system unless you had the guts like Olivia De Havilland or Betty Davis to take on the Studios that could blacklist you completely. They controlled everything and gave you this lifestyle of luxury. But when they dumped you the studios took everything and left most of the their stars destitute. So called friends in the industry could also drop you once your gold dust disappeared :(
@lenal1l I really don't know but I assume. Maybe she did use her agents and friends to help her win an Oscar in 1969 for The Happy Ending or to get a nomination during the height of her fame (1953 - 1963) which she did not get.
Never realized that that could be the reason why Jean became an alcoholic. Wow, didn't think her career going down made want to turn to alcohol. She could have used that time to go to Broadway or act in British films instead of waiting for film offer to be made. Thank God she got rid of her alcoholism in the 80s. Sometimes being beautiful hurt beautiful actresses. Probably people thought acting was easy for Jean because she was beautiful and that's why she was NEVER nominated for an Oscar.
Can they for once give a speech without any sarcasm.
NO@johnanthonyp
Huh? When did Gene get a sex change? I'd expect it from Paul Stanley, but Gene?
is it just me or does she look like a white version of Yoko Ono
Varinia !!!!
